I had an old Javalin (purchased well used) that was giving the same problem. I took a piece of 1" elastic with snaps installed at the ends to hold the sholder straps in on my shoulders. Free flyers do the same thing with leg straps... Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Bill, Once again your experience and expertise shines! I think there needs to be more communication with our BASE jumping relatives. They have the most experience with "reserve jumps" and shun Spctra line. With no back-up canopy, packing is becomes a science. Pilot chute design and sizing is critical. Equipment performance awareness is job #1. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Deciding "This Canopy is Not For Me"
Kirils replied to Jumperpaula's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I jumped a Heatwave then purchased a Stiletto. 2 jumps on the thing and I realized it was too twichy for me. It was 150. I have smaller canopies, but my Stiletto is one of the least desirable to jump. PD quality is tops and their service is the best in the business. I don't understand why their designs aren't better than they are. I kinda look at PD as the "Ford" of the industry. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability... -

I'll stick with my G-3. I demo'd a Uni in January and it was extremely comfortable and flexable... a sky dancers dream. For swoopers, I think the articulated harness inhibits control input to the risers. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

It's a ZP canopy. I have an AR-11 that was also set up for crew. (it's for sale cheap 200 jumps). Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Caution there buddy. Stiletto's get diminishing performance returns after 1.5 loadings. You need to move on to a cross braced canopy. Check out a Xaos or an FX. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Thanks! I'm just trying to film freeflying with my wife. ( have a new Para-mount Super Lite duel camera system I'd swap for a hard cover for my PC-1) I know it's not cheap to get set up. I thank you all for your input; it really keeps me from wasting money! Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

I'm a newbie to camera flying. i just purchased a PC-1 and a Bone Head camera helmet with a side mount plate. Do I need to install a ring site? Should I get a cover for the camera? (I can't afford $180.00 for the fiberglass Bone Head one) I'm worried about snags, is gaffers tape enough? I would appreciate any advice, this is really foreign to me. I have 2 Reflexes and I think they are the best pop-top out there. The bridle coverage is just about the best going. It's too bad the company went belly up. Bomber has done an excellent job keeping these rigs flying! I really don't have any worries about buying another. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

About 15 years ago there was a rumor going around that said South African canopies were junk because the fabric used would deteriorate on exposure to human sweat. Does anyone remember that rumor?? Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Has anyone ever thought about applying an anti-oxident / UV screen to the lines to protext and preserve them from sun? Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Triples usually seen on high performance canopies. They allow the canopy to flatten out more enhancing lift and lowering drag. They also reduce steering line wear a bit. I had a set of triples on my AR-11 (and yes! it is for sale this week only at an incredable price!) and when I switched over to standard risers there was a small difference in the landings and surf distance. Assembling a rig out of used components can be a real nightmare. The good deal on the Jav is just one piece. Try to get a used rig that comes complete with components that have been used all together. If you opt to buy the Jav, get a rigger to help you choose the rest of the stuff. We have come a long way! ( I have most of my experience under a surplus T-10 & a UT-15 ) But the rate of technology advancement has slowed way down. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Being very old, I remember canopies from the 70's and 80's being very different in design, performance, releases bindings and material. It seemed every couple months a new canopy came out with a new radically different design. Now it seems every canopy is pretty much the same. Most improvements are cosmetic. Has the skydiving community become complacent? Has the technology reached it's limit? Take the 3 ring release system, it is lo-tech and works OK. but it is far from ideal. We blame most all deaths and injurys on "jumper error". True, but could advanced technology have compensated for that error? Skydivers should deserve and demand better equipment. Setting up and doing a swoop dosen't give you exclusive clearance to take up 50 yards of landing area. You need to consider other jumpers and obstacles that might get in your way. You need to plan for secondary and even tertiary routes of "escape" if something gets in your path. "Impromptu" swoops are foolish and can hurt you and others. Listen to what is being said by these others. Hook turns kill... Read the USPA fatality report. The technique, to be successful, requires a lot of jumps and a lot of practice. It's not meant for the 10 jump per month rookie. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

You gonna be da bomb wit da Siletto, dude!! Actually, I am quite interested how easy the skills you have demonstrated with a larger essentially non-eliptical canopy will port over to a smaller elipitical. Keep us posted and best of luck! What about things like spring tension, straight v/s tapered springs and maintaining a true launch trajectory? Has the comparative efficacy between manufactures been shown. Is it singnificant? Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Yes it happens. I just had my Reflex modified by Bomber Mfg. They installed a "flapette" at the top of the container that prevents lines from snagging. Something like it could be installed on any pop-top I suspose. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
