On my canopy the slider pockets are on a flap the size of the normal slider area...it's huge! It hangs over the nose. I only quarter the main area. (I consulted with a rigger about packing it when I bought it). After this incident I'm trading it in on a Xaos-21. I am being evaluated for surgery today... I never really was aware how critical sliders can be to a safe opening. I know now. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

My 120 has a pocketed slider. It has worked great, I have always had good openings...till last week. I don't know how it happened , but the pocketed flap on the slider twisted around the slider itself and on opening it spanked me good. I have kidney damage from that opening and am out of the sky for at least 2 months. MY point: Be wary of any canopy that has a pocketed slider. It's been added as an easy fix for a design problem in the canopy. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Read, study, immerse yourself in the sport, but wait till you complete your AFF and then some before buying a rig. THEN, jump many different rigs, talk to experienced jumpers...take your time. Your rig is kinda like a marriage partner, a long engagement helps make for a better union. I know too many people (myself included) that have let their enthusiasm replace the need for experience and regreted the purchase of their first rig. Good luck! A of mine in South Africa bought a Ninga. He really loves it. It's fast, with snappy turns and a great flare. BUT... it not the bomb the FX or the Xaos-21 an overloaded Cobalt are. It's a great chute for HP wannabees. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Thee cheers to Bill... he has provided me with outstanding and prompt service. Keep up the excellent work! Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

I've Psycho-packed my girlfriends Triathlon and the openings were TOO slow (1200'). Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

I've been working with my fiance' on sit flying. It was impossible to dock or even face off. Then (duh) someone mentioned we were chasing each other, each of us moving in response to the others movements. As soon as I focused on my ground position and tried to fall straight everything came together. Moral of the story: You don't know if you have the zoomies unless you have a fixed point of reference. We wasted quite a few jumps trying to use each other as a reference point. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Years ago we would flake the canopy (like you do with a pro pack), daisy chain the lines and hang it up with a dark plastic bag around it. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

One option is to sew 2 loops at the sides of a glove. Its a great way to mount an altimeter in a viewable and comfortable position. I have the those finger loops too. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Icarus has done a good job. My fear is that the Crossfire could sink the company. Look at what happened to Flightline. I heard talk (I have not verified this) that Lisa Gallagher's death has brought a suit against Icarus. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

I was wondering exactly what is being done to the canopy to correct the problems. And how do you evaluate that the repaired canopy is OK. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Thanks, maybe I'll force feed her this winter and get her up to a 2.2 loading...(grin) Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

I always thought that the Diablo was just a Triathlon with the back corners knocked off and it couldn't be all it was bragged up to be. Well I demo'd one ...a 135 at a 1.4 loading. This canopy is incredible! It turns very fast. It is nimble yet stable. The flare is strong and controllable. I love my Heatwave, I like the Stiletto, I enjoyed jumping the Vengence BUT... This canopy blows them away in all around performance. I do wish it would surf better though.

Has anyone jumped a Xaos-21 at lighter loading. Let's say at 1.3-1.5?? I want to buy one, but I would be sharing it with someone else lighter than myself. Thanks! Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

If you switch to triple risers your canopy will flatten out and you should see improvement in your surf. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

I'm ordering a pair ...*uck Burger King they don't have *hit to do with Skydiving... Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

It's called the blind loyality of the PD lemmings. (grin) No matter how well your canopy flies, or how good the manufacture's PR and advertising; there are other canopies, and there may be a better canopy. Empirical data and objectivity leads to safer and more enjoyable skydiving! Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Nylon really is difficult to stain. If the "staining substance is very acidic or alkaline, then you probably have a dye modification. It is possible to re-dye the fabric. (I have re-dyed 4 rigs with great success) Use a wet-vac when you clean the stain. You will be able to soap and rinse completely without the water going deep into the rig. Good Luck! Yes Mark, it is a very fun canopy. So much so that PD copied it and calls their chute a Sabre2... (grin) Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

I have a Skytronic FX. It's a nice piece of equipment with the loudest alert. BUT service from the company is non-existant. The display on mine became distorted after 2 months of use . I made 4 inquires to the company about correcting the problem with NO response. You talka abouta bada service... theya really fucka you... Larsen & Brusgaard has outstanding service and offer prompt responses to inquires. Buy a Dytter! Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

I just got back from the DZ. We jumped on a windy day with a temp of 45 degrees with no complaints about the cold. The most important thing trying to stay warm in cold weather is blocking the wind from exposed skin. Try wearing latex surgical gloves under your regular gloves. "Hot Shot" neoprene hunting gloves are cheap and work great (about $6 at K-Mart). For the feet get rid of the running shoes and use a wind proof boot. If you know an Air Force jumper maybe they can rip off a HALO suit for you... Blue Toes and Black Death! Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

There is one small problem with doubling up the rubberband: Double stows have more variability when it comes to the force required to pull free and it can affect the fluidity in the line stretch. A single band release is much more consistent. You can verify this by checking the release force with a riggers hand pull scale. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
-
I am playing devil's advocate and say NEVER double stow your bands. If things are too loose, get a smaller rubber band. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Hey, if I'm running a DZ, RSL's can save the cost of a Cypress or Astra fire. I think economics plays a part in the consideration of RSL's. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...

Hey!!! Any rigger should be able to install an Astra. I am attaching a file to show how... The control head can be removed to pass the control cable though channels normaly used for a Cypress. Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability...
