  1. Even if you do CRW ...Canopy stuff.....look away for a second with Autofocus on.....you will get blurring as it searches for the focus point ( its even worse with clouds on the far horizon) Even for this application...I say....know your expected distance to target to shoot and keep close to it.... Changing from manual to autofocus in mid air is .......'difficult'.......( well with the helmet still on your head anyways.... )
  2. yeah but on the way down you are screwed filming ..... if/and every time you look 'past' your target for whatever reason.....you get that awful blur >>to focus on the footage....that dont look good at all... I say better to set your 'distance' and be aware of it.....some things may be slightly out of focus if your proximity is off....but not much and in my opinion its much better than that horrible blur that sony cams do during AutoFocus
  3. woooo hooo......but it 'makes me walk kinda funny' ....you made me look like a right biaatch in that photo Jman.......;) I do have a question though......how the hell am I gonna hold a stable sitfly or headown.. in that...??
  4. Jarno.....do you fly square or round canopies when flying birdman...? I dont jump wingsuits just yet but I think it would be OK on a large square canopy... I think in those winds though its a good idea to wear at least two pairs of gloves as it can get rather cold with the wind chill and all...

  6. Nice report ....GYDD Good job it wasnt on your recurrency jump .....or I would have thought you were just showing off and trying to scare me....
  7. I meant in terms of dealing with riser strikes and snags that dont cause any other problems......as said I have seen damage to the camera by the risers or something just catching the big lense and causing it to damage its attachment point on the cam........in one case that was suspected as the cause for taking the camera off an unprotected side mount helmet.
  8. ditto... Vignetted footage on mixed (vignetted and non vignetted) video when you are editing....just looks lame.... The single element lenses (eg diamond) are also much less of a snag hazard than the much larger kenko/sony lenses. I have seen a few of the larger lenses (kenko and sony ) being snagged /riser striked and damaging the attachment to the camera body Not seen/heard of that on a low profile lens no contest really...

I hear you.... I dont at all support what he was doing !! I was referring in my last post to the matter that despite the fact he has agreed its bad and wont do it again.....people are still posting insulting negative comments..... Th man has agreed not to do it no more......thats a good start/result ..aint it? At least give him credit for that response in comparison to the other response he could have given.... ie to turn around with two fingers at y'all with a big fuck you grin saying...I'm gonna keep doing it. Think I'm done with this one.....

I think what they did was wrong.....people, especially the locals, have a right to be pissed off.. but...repeated threats of violence and gear sabotage hardly constitute a reasonable response .......do they?

Perhaps you should read the last sub from the 'offender' and cut him slack ..... Jeez with this and another thread I'm following on a breach of ethics......I understand the frustration and concern....but frankly the response is just as childish and overdone.... No disrespect , intended...but I expected a more mature attitude from the community in these matters, once someone has accepted what they did was wrong.

Kudos to you ..... With all the negative vibes people get for doing the slightest thing wrong in this discipline..... If no one else is gonna say it...I will....I think changing your point of view like that deserves a pat on the back ( or a sticker.... ) No really....good for you.

That makes it OK...? I'm confused... Another question......again, not out of any other reason than I dont understand.....you do what you want to do.... Why do you feel a need to put a sticker on there, whats its purpose and/or the purpose for doing it...? Dont get me wrong....not flaming you....just asking...

What type of 'A' would that be then...? If you can get up there....surely thats because its designed for people TO go up there.... Not provoking......just curious and asking
  15. I had a similar problem. After a long time fiddling around with brightness/contrast/ Gamma correction Levels Colour correction... I got it close....but not totally corrected... I was using Prem Pro 1.5 I just dont think you can make it 'right' but if you had the backlight on for the whole vid ( intro/ride and jump) perhaps you can correct the video as 'best as you can' and it can look acceptable. Its just more noticeable if you cut it with footage where the backlight is off..... Try and 'dull the bright colours' whilst keeping the contrast levels up....was my gameplan ... I think this is kinda the mistake you only make once thankfully ...
  16. Do you use a primary stow when slider up (with direct control) on terminal jumps? I have heard conflicting views .... I'd be interested to hear your current view........ (not directed at you Faber.......I know those lil' square things scare ya..... )
  17. Lou and LifeWithout a net......... Outstanding posts with really good info..... Thankyou...
  18. I'll assume that you did import the footage into an NTSC project (Not PAL) on Premiere......I certainly have had some funky imports by trying to import PAL footage into an NTSC project. If thats not it......maybe somethings up with your video capture card......does it import other footage into Premiere OK..?
  19. The 'all inclusive' policy is only available on rescues above 6000m .....obviously not very useful to the majority of the BASE jumps.... Its strange that the policy that would be available has a 'per claim' value so low comparable to the costs likely to be involved in a Mountain Rescue attempt....(of which I have no knowledge.....but its gotta be well over $5K) Even for Mountain Climbers at this altitude.........would this policybe likely to cover all costs involved in an average( whatever that may be ) rescue attempt..... But its good to hear that they would honour a policy for BASE'rs fitting into the policy restrictions...
  20. Perhaps If some individuals were 'smart' enough to offer some decent 'Insurance policy' to cover these types of events then maybe nobody needs to 'lose' As I see it......no body really would offer insurance policies for such an activity.....why?......lack of understanding of the discipline ( ie thinking everyone who jumps is a weirdo with no sense of regard for their or others lives..) ?? Potential complications with legal issues on access for a jump.? Correct me if I am wrong but alot of 'E's are legal....or at worst tolerated......so wouldnt it be a good idea to be able to take out a specific policy (whereby the providor has in depth knowledge of the risks , likleyhood, and recommended safeguards) to cover eventualities that occur . Other mountain sports have these policies......right? And if one existed......wouldnt it be 'irresponsible; not to have it......not as a statement of your perceived ability for the object you are jumping......but just as it is...as insurance when something unforseen happens.... I'd be interested to see if other high risk mountain sports (that you can get insurance for) have a higher or lower incidence of 'events' requiring such involved rescues.......compared to jumping off cliffs .... My opinion is that the lack of 'formal' qualification in the discipline will always be its weakest link when it comes to progression in these matters. But it would be great to know you had some policy that if........if.....you messed up.....you knew you were not putting others at risk without 'suitable' compensation. I remember reading something about contributions to the S&R team at Kjerag being de'rigeur as part of doing any jumps there.....thats cool , but a more formal approach via some sort of policy would be even better. Edited to add.....I'm not a BASE jumper , so please fell free to tell me I have no idea what I am talking about.....but please also qualify that with an explanation
  21. I dunno exactly 'how' to excite a helicopter.........but I know what happens when you do...... http://www.alexisparkinn.com/photogallery/Videos/2006-2-10_Ground_Resonance_Rear_View.mpg (Not a great stream so best to Rt click and save as)

New duvet , Pillow cases and super comfy wool blanket ( its feckin freezing in London at the mo) 2. Nice warm windproof Jacket 3. Hanwag Fly GTX boots 4. Super 'Super' Nite shot IR pack. 5. A dead rabbit from Pitbull and Suzy...(Parents Cats) 5. 23. I have just sent you a pm explaining exactly (step by step) how to do what you you are asking on Movie Maker. Movie Maker ( and even better Movie Maker2) are just fine for beginners and small projects.......dont listen to all the ..."you need this and you need that" Here is one of my first productions using Movie Maker2 .....and although looking a little cheesy today (cringe) , 'twas good at the time...and demonstrates you can achieve alot with this free editing program... http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=guestpass&id=h2gnb
  24. I disagree. I think having the room to 'move' when you first start learning FF is a very important part of the process. I was very frustrated learning backfly in the tunnel as the wall was never further than half an armslength away......one second of loss of form from a stable position and I had to break the position to 'push' back off the wall. No room for 'exploration' of the position back to recovery.
