  1. I have tried doing a 'test' cutaway under these same conditions.....body weight totally supported via the helmet on both the 2K system and a cotter pin ratchet 'release ' cutaway.... The force/effort needed to cutaway the 'loaded' release was SUBSTANTIALLY easier on the 2K ring release.... When /if the shit hits the fan I know which one is going to work easiest..... Done through testing..... This thread is going ...gone off topic anyways..... Andy likes a FTP and thats that......but the better helmet that works is a FF2
  2. The cutaway releases one side of the 'back' of the helmet as the other side is held in place more securely.....allowing front/top of the helmet to come away from the jumper. If the helmet is being snagged by something on top ...(the most likey scenario) then personally I would want the cutaway to be as 'efficient' as possible under any load..... You of course may want to struggle with it....
  3. If you had actually read the replies in the thread you will see that an alternative to a FTP has already been suggested......
  4. Another vote here for the 2K FF2. Its a quality setup with snag protection that NO other helmet can claim to better... Everyone is going 'wow' their own helmet.......but look at the FF2 and then look at the others ... Its custom fit to YOU not S,M,L, has the best snag protection out there and has a great cutaway system available....none of this 'bodged' cutaway system stuff going on.... FTP vs FF2 comparison.......are you joking ??? I jumped a FTP for a while after I had got my FF2 helmet.....because thats the helmet the cam people were using....I didnt like it.....uncomfortable to wear and its a monster of a helmet.....too awkward to wear/adjust in the aircraft for recreational jumpers.....nope, plus it looks so ugly people actually fly away from you in FF .... Nah FF2 anyday......
  5. Also known as 'Braked turns' or at least thats the name I recognise this manouvre as....
  6. Also carefully consider the 'breakoff' height for the freeflyer(s) which should be related to their expereince and ability......but either way should be a way before the 'flatties' breakoff.... With that followed the hanger(s) should have plenty of time to track well clear of the base before they breakoff and deploy. Breaking off all together ....is not a good idea IMHO...no matter how good everyone is.
  7. Probably bit basic for you pro's but it certainly made my day..
  8. I think that relates just to students and not licensed skydivers at Langar.
  9. This whole thread got me curious so I xrayed my Wings cutaway and pillow reserve handles.....thought I would share. (Pillow is highlighted in red)

    mea culpa I stand corrected
  11. So does anyone have a picture/diagram of the 'internals' of a pillow type reserve handle...? If not I'll Xray mine and post a pic after the weekend.....

Dunno is this has been posted before.....but might interest some of you guys... warning....contains a fatality http://www.flurl.com/uploaded/Off_a_cliff_8711.html

  14. I dropped from a 215 pretty much straight to a 168 without any problems at all.... I did spend a deal of time on the 215 on double front riser approaches to speed up the approach.......which in hindsight got me more used to the increased speed 'straight in' on a smaller canopy
  15. Whats the current price you offer ? (FF2,Glass Fibre,Black paint, Cutaway , Cameye2)
  16. Hmmm just made me think....how are 'Pillow' type reserve handles constructed....? How is the reserve cable ball secured.... Anyone have any pictures /diagrams.....?
  17. You get the helmet cheaper buying through a US dealer ...than direct
  18. I got a freefly pud on my new rig.........and its not as 'easy' to access and pull as a hacky was... That said it IS a much more secure system than a hackey ( and I have had a high speed premature deployment, which made me think hard about the security of the system) Its not as easy as a hackey to pull....but in a weird kinda way I like the way it makes me focus on my pull at pull time in a way I just didnt with a hackey ....ie good body position and a FIRM grip and toss on the handle
  19. Whilst I dont see myself going crazy for this type of flying.......its pretty amazing to watch and the fact that points can be turned in ALL dimensions.......simply knocks ths spots of 4 way RW If this develops .....its going to be infinately more 'watchable' than 4 Way RW........in fcat (if you will excuse the pun) it'll make 4 way RW look kinda.....'flat' Not just because its freeflying turning points.........but because its total body flight.....points turned on all axis.... That said....its not the straw that stirs my drink.....going out freeflying , doing what I feel like as well as progressing my total body flight skills in a fun environment.....is my thang' Start making it competitive......and it definatley loses something No flaming now......I love flat flying ...really....I do it at least once on every jump
  20. As far as I remember the message was passed down the otter from one to the next........and as I recall I did my duty in passing the message on down the line......(IPOD boy was only within visual range) Whilst I cant say for sure that he 'heard' the message passed to him , there was a definate lethargy in his personal response and If the person who passed the message to him didnt try 4 or 5 times waiting for a response before sorting themselves out.....cant say I blame them at all. YOU are ultimately responsible for ensuring YOUR own safety.......if YOU choose to bypass established thinking/procedure then you are living in a very eutopian world if you expect others to go out of their way to ENSURE your safety. Whatever....my original thought still stands ....people who act like this shouldnt delayme or my friends or get in my way when I am heading to the door in an emergency.

    A how to guide...

Thats amusing AND educational ......nice one scoop...
  22. And a coach that is suitable for your ability /experience level.......if you are starting out to freefly you probably dont need the most experienced, bad ass freeflying coach on the DZ. You need one that is able to work well with you and communicate well...... more than you need somebody whose freefly skills are second to none....

  24. Would be nice for some kind soul to actually put something together for all the 'modern' canopies as a comparison ... I dont care what method is used as long as its used the same way across all the canopies so at least its comparable I saw the PIA one....but its a little dated now I think.... What have the canopy manufactuers got to hide here by not all subscibing to a uniform measurement system..??
  25. I think there is a big difference between adjusting leg straps vs not having them tightned at all .......at least if they are tight when you enter the aircraft and you need to exit in an emergency......you can worry about how well they are adjusted after you have exited and are safely under canopy on your way down as opposed to thinking about if you are going to live whilst holding up people in the door of the plane in an emergency
