  1. When the video camera is as expensive as the stills/lens.... you really are going to have to think hard about which one is going to be sidemounted without a box ! I mean its like having two nice pigs and having to pick one to send for slaughter !
  2. That sounds very interesting....would you care to post how you do/did that......practically?
  3. Seems you are damned if you try and prepare properly and damned if you dont..... I'll send it back to you with 'what the hell is this world coming to ?' I'm sure you will agree that every persons reasons/motivations/enjoyment in BASE and getting into it would show great variance. I dont think its fair to have a go at those who think about it differently to you......and at least they will have a little bit more experience on their canopy for when they do their first BASE jump......and that cant be a bad thing can it? The first time I BASE jumped was the first time I had jumped a BASE canopy....everything went OK but asked if I could have practiced on that canopy in more forgiving enviroment first...I would say...yes. I mean there's more than enough adventure in doing your first BASE jumps anyway isnt there? without having to worry about how much control over your canopy you have. Live and let live....
  4. Posted recently on skydivingmovies.... http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=4417 I'm not an expert....but it looked like a stable biplane....then he turns aggresively (or tries to separate the two canopies (downplane risk ?) )... before cutting the main away at a ridiculously low altitude... I may be wrong....and please correct me if I am.... but this video serves as a great example of how NOT to manage a two out situation... If the jumper concerned would like to post his train of thought on this event I would love to read it...
  5. Takes me about an hour when I get out of London....follow the A1 all the way up and there is a clear signed exit off to Sibson .... Off the M'way and at the T junction take a left turn and then Sibson will be on your left in 2 mins. let me know when you are in town.....might be able to give you a lift (BTW Team Gorgeous disbanded last season....)
  6. Yes please . I'd be very happy to learn an alternate technique.
  7. I use mine predominantly for BASE although I have skydived with it as well ( no problems with security...head up...down and flatflying) Its comfortable and very well padded ( the right way) Also offers excellent peripheral vison. Because of the padding its quite big.
  8. You never took a shit with your rig on?? It just takes a little more 'projection' with your ass position ( you dont wont to soil that lovely rigs leg straps now do you)...?
  9. I'd advise you to put your rig ON before you visit such a restroom. I mean...especially if you had the extra hot vindaloo curry the night before......the first big 'explosion' could blow the back of that shack too easily !
  10. I met him at the ITW and again in Norway this season.....very nice guy , usually centre of the attention. Horrible news to hear....my thoughts go out to his family and friends at this time.
  11. Are you saying that the navy was using high performance, highly loaded 'swooping' canopies for this test ? why would they have any interest in doing that?
  12. Why would you do that having a riggers knowledge? I dont know you but have read some of your posts that indicate you are a 'larger' guy Just curious...
  13. Perhaps engaging the journalist on the 'relevant' points raised in this thread might show how seriously you ( as a local) take his points..... I reckon if people saw that the 'international' BASE community was concerned about the impact of that article it might actually make people more pro 'our' side...ie they will realise that BASE jumpers who are 'not in town' do actually care about keeping the site accessable. just an opinion
  14. I'd bet they were on canopies alot different to the class associated with this post. Would be nice if a manufacturer or 'soft drink' sponser for example would put some cash where its needed and sponser a project that looked into this issue , relevant to the market where this potential problem may exist..... That would show 'real' manufacturer/sponser 'buy in' to me , alot more than some glossy adverts in Parachutist.

    the 200 rule

I can concur.....a couple of flights I have had a slight issue locating and grabbing my pud.....having a little bit more air experience /currency will save you an awful lot of drama and anxiety at this point, and give you a better chance of a positive outcome
  16. For gods sake ask that man to keep a diary........thats a funny read.
  17. Schaffen ( 10.06.2006) wingsuit vid is now up ! http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=4306
  18. Expansion please....for us plebs not worthy to attend...... Did Macca piss himself? or even better piss on someone else ..? (some 'thing' else is lame and doesnt count.....thats easy ...we all do that and get away with it in a foreign country )
  19. I agree.....the brake line is going to move to the outside of the riser as the deployment happens. If its on the inside of the riser...it has to move across the riser and may catch on something...eg a bit of exposed toggle tip. Plus if the excess is stored on the inside of the riser there is less chance that as you reach for your toggle you put your hand/finger through the loops of the excess stowed line ( most people I know grab the toggle from the 'outside' of the riser not the inside) Line to the outside of the riser......excess line to the inside of the riser Edit...Paul looks like we were writing the same response at the same time ! lol
  20. Just wanted to give a shout out to the coaches involved who took a group of complete CRW novices up for coaching towards our CF1 over the last weekend at Hibaldstow. Also big thanks to Jason for his camera work and to Hibs for hosting the event. We all had a lot of fun starting to learn how to do this. I was very happy to finish off the weekend with Rich and David in our first 8 Stack.... Video (of course ) is here http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=guestpass&id=aer3c
  21. Scoop...dont read this I just leave my journey till 12pm ish and hit the A1 or M1 and can comfortably drive at 100+mph.....cause there is very little traffic I know where all the speed traps are and I kinda know where the Police like to hang out,,,so just keep them peepers open..... At that time of night.....speed limits to me are a GUIDE....sorry but thats the way I see it.....if the road ahead of me has absolutley nothing on it , and road conditions/weather conditions are good.....70mph can be far too slow.
