Bad weekend: no jumpy, and anniversary of 9/11. Good weekend: ran my first resucitative Code on Friday! Attached is one of my favorite 9/11 memorials. Sorry that I can't give credit to the artist or photographer, I would if I knew who they were... Elvisio "sinus rhythm rocks" Rodriguez

$3.19 today in somewhat-rural Virginia. BTW would that work as an excuse? Sorry boss, can't come in today unless I get a FAT gas stipend... Elvisio "you try it first and let me know how it goes" Rodriguez

Repost. Hoo-yah! Good skit though. Upon second viewing I am forced to ask which is the worst of the following four: 1.) That the website you listed here decided to "blur-out" Mr. Frog's pee-pee; 2.) That the animators took the time to animate said pee-pee in the first place; 3.) That I noticed it in the first place; or, 4.) That I used the word pee-pee. I also appreciate the serious BASE-savvy the Frog showed with the aerial that led to his snagging the missle. Elvisio "ding ding" Rodriguez

Not trying to be an ass, just asking this in a very level tone of voice: What could they have done? Abandon the city BEFORE it was destroyed? Looks great in hindsight, but try going to Miami today and see if you can make it happen. Rebuild/reinforce levees? Can this be done? Would it have helped? I ask because I honestly don't know. Improve diasaster preparedness and response through increased education and drills? Probably the best answer. But as a member of the Fire/EMS community, I can say from experience that trying to motivate the public to take such training seriously is near impossible. Again, not being an ass, just wondering... Adult Swim, Sun - Thur , 11 pm. Wouldn't miss a single episode for the world. Favorites are: "LOOK! There's a message in my Alpha-Bits! It says 'Oooooooooo...' URBAN LEGEND has it that if you start drinking beer as soon as you get stopped for DUI that they then can't put you on the Breathalyzer. The myth continues that they can't prove you were drinking beforehand, and that you then have an excuse for having alcohol on your breath. Somebody try it out and let me know how it turns out for ya... Elvisio "will trade gas money for a DD" Rodriguez

Know what, ma man? You got dat right. About my life in general: starting a new career, going back to school, got me a good woman, volunteering in Fire/Rescue, it's all good. I'm gonna hit 31 years old in a couple months, but when I think about people my age who whine about not being 18 any more all I can think about is how empty my life was then compared to now. Wouldn't go back for the world. About skydiving in particular: Last weekend I made 19 skydives, and got paid for every one of them. I did 12 on Sunday, tieing my personal record for most jumps in a day (ahhh, the joys of not packing!). But what set Sunday apart was the sheer number of people who said the same thing: "you have the greatest job!". One girl in particular, once we got under canopy, all she could say was "duuuuuude, duuuuuude, duuuuuude," and then "you have the BEST FUCKING JOB in the WORLD." So often, in pursuit of the bigger formation, the cooler hybrid, or the faster swoop, we forget just what we're doing, how free we are. It's that way with tandems too, especially when they get cranking on the busy days. But that's one of the things I love about being a TI, once in a while the student reminds you just what an incredible thing a skydive is, and how lucky we are to be able to do it all day long. Elvisio "thanks for the misty-eyed moment, Rev!" Rodriguez

Pick your favorite source of hockey gossip and check out the mass destruction that is happening to your favorite team because of the new salary cap. Franchise icons are getting tanked left and right: Hatcher McCarty Whitney all getting the boot from the Wings, and Forsberg Foote bidding adieu to the Avalanche. Also, LeClair Amonte not with the Flyers anymore. Without a doubt, between the team changes and the rule changes, it's going to be a COMPLETELY different league on October 5, for better or worse... not sure how I feel. I'll be sure to keep you informed as emotions gel, as I'm sure you won't sleep well until you know my opinon in this matter. Elvisio "I PAY to skate, instead of getting paid" Rodriguez

You're getting a lot of really diverse responses, which is a) cool, cuz we rock like that here on dz.com and b) a reflection of the diversity of our demographic. Where will she be working? Big Metropolis or smaller Fire Service? This will have a big say in how much training she'll need before she can hope to apply for a career position. I'm sure some city agencies require a Fire Sciences degree, but here (a medium sized city) all you need is Firefighter I and EMT-B. Touch base with the locals, they'll be able to lead you in the right direction. Volunteering is a GREAT idea. It's all I'm doing right now (no bites yet on the applications for a career position, I'm still building my Fire/EMS resume), and it's a blast. I agree with the suggestion of others in that she begin to pursue her EMT certifications ASAP. Different fire services will have different requirements for Fire training before employment, but the fact of the matter is that Fire-based EMS is going to be the wave of the future. While the fire training will be dictated by your local protocols, the EMT training is a State affair, so it's something that she can start now and be confident that it will be worthwhile. I don't know of any fire agency in my area that will even LOOK at you for a firefighter position without having at least an EMT-Basic cert. Elvisio "not paid yet, but maybe someday" Rodriguez
