The voltage on a set we pulled out after it had seen it's last day in a Cypres read something like 2.7 volts. What to do with the batts once they're pulled out of the Cypres? Refer to my previous thread here about putting two cypress batts and a 4-cell bulb into a two cell Maglite... Elvisio "Damn that thing is bright" Rodriguez

Hmmm.... I am speaking as a person who has seen the Discovery Channel show about the Alaskan Crab Fishermen (work two months a year for fat cash, but with something like a 1% fatality rate every season) and thought "ya know, I think I like those odds..." That being said, I'd still stay home if I were you. The cash sounds fanfuckintastic but, but doesn't skydiving add enough danger to your life? Elvisio "relishing the fact that my head is still attached to my shoulders" Rodriguez PS if ya gotta go, stick close to Clay!

Funny how in the past, when I was getting refunds, I was more than exicited to get it done quickly. But this being the first year that I'll owe, I'm finding myself somewhat less than motivated... Elvisio "deduct this" Rodriguez

Just remember to keep the skates under you at all times. I'm taking a few weeks off to heal a hairline wrist fracture (damn boards jumped right out in front of me) but otherwise I've been playing ice hockey for about a year now and luvvin it all. Yahoo is being poopy so I can't post the whole list (prob'ly a repost anyhow) but there was a spammail going around about men. One of my favorite points was something like: "At any point in time, men have only two moods: horny and hungry. So, if we are not asking you for sex, make us a sandwich." Elvisio "sums it up quite nicely" Rodriguez

Dude if I'm ever in SD I'm givin' you a call, between the solar panels and plumbing, I GOTTA check out your pad.

BUT, with multiple exit points on the aircraft, you could launch a world record RW attempt out of just this one aircraft... no more tricky formation flying necessary. Elvisio "tandem instructors would ride first class, of course" Rodriguez

I guess I can see your point, but if my truck was recalled for a manifold problem, and I was able to drive it to the dealer for the free replacement, would I then present the dealer with a bill for the mileage and cost of "my time" spent waiting while they did the repair? I guess it all comes down to where you draw the line. And while I can see that many might draw the line at "Mirage Systems pays for everything" I guess I'd just be a bit more likely to forgive them this one small transgression because of everything else they have going for them. Quote This is an expensive sport. Suck it up. Quote Bingo. Not for diablopilot, but for those complaining about the cost of shipping: I don't even own a Mirage and have only packed a handful compared to the God-knows-how-many some of the other riggers on this Forum have, but everything I have seen from them (other jumpers' satisfaction with their product, interaction with their employees at sundry boogies) demonstrates that they are a top notch company with a top notch product. Even the finest automobiles need maintenance or they break down once in a while. Problem is, when a car breaks down, you're late for work. When a rig breaks down, somebody dies. Mirage is just doing everything they can to keep YOU safe and jumping. Relative to the other costs of this sport, the cost of shipping a rig to the manufacturer is a pittance. You've made a significant investment in what is (arguably) the best manufactured rig currently available, and are now haggling over a couple dollars and a couple of days to keep it top-of-the-line. It's January and cold as hell for MOST (I know, not all) of us in this neck of the woods. How much jumping will really be missed? I know it's a bummer paying for another repack if you've just had it done. But hey: I've seen people take a reserve ride on the first jump after a repack, so it could be worse! Why to keep old Parachutist/Skydiving Magazines
skydiver30960 replied to ltdiver's topic in The Bonfire
I stopped holding onto them after a bit of a Tyler Durden-ian "the things you own end up owning you" awakening. But I'll NEVER give up my McDonald's Garfield collectible mugs! Elvisio "pack rat master" Rodriguez -
Well that's one place he might have had the chance to use them! But I've found that if you try to "go there" on a first date the ladies get a little cranky. Elvisio "wrap the whopper" Rodriguez

Drunk dialed from the Farmers and the Orfuns

It's just their way of saying that they wish you were there! Although, what does that say about the fact that I've never been drunk dialed... ...... -

C'mon guys, given the standard for jump aircraft, I'm sure there isn't a member on this site that hasn't jumped a rickety old bird that would make that C-130 look like a Lear! Elvisio "it only has to work for the first half of the flight" Rodriguez

My gf, her dad, sister and I went to see it on IMAX. Good stuff on the BIG screen, great for getting the gf's dad to shake his head disbelievingly (he used to fly F-18s but won't even THINK about joining me on a tandem, go figure). Good stuff for whuffos, but maybe a bit too spoon-fed for experienced jumpers to really jones off of. Elvisio "it was badass on the big screen though" Rodriguez

AED on your Dropzone
skydiver30960 replied to skydiver30960's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As a spinoff of the First Responder thread, does anybody jump at a DZ with an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) on-site? AEDs are getting cheaper and cheaper every day... And when you consider the amount of first-jumper-heart-racing that goes on during any given day at the DZ... couple that with the fact that every year we're more accepting of older and less-than-active and less-than-in-shape people trying skydiving and it's a very real possibility that someday, somebody's heart may need a zap or two. Not to mention what the DZ cookout food is doing to my arteries! Waddaya mean the triple cheeseburger with bacon and mayo isn't good for me? Elvisio "shock advised" Rodriguez -
One thing that might be cool (especially if done in conjunction with Safety Day) is for a DZ to sponsor a CPR/First Aid class. It doesn't offer much when compared to more advanced classes, but does give you some very useful skills that could make a difference. If that went over well, and there was enough interest, the DZ could then sponsor a First Responder or EMT Basic course. Now THAT would be a more serious investment in time for the students in the class, but if there were enough interested students the DZ would benefit from more trained responders. The class would probably be taught at the local Fire/EMS training center, and the DZ could offer to reimburse the cost of the course ($50-100) to anyone who passed the certification test. Elvisio "you want me to palpate WHAT!?" Rodriguez

The Good Sam law MIGHT offer protection from conviction, but doesn't offer any from prosecution. in other words, they might not win but they can still sue your ass. Elvisio "scene safety, BSI" Rodriguez

Going in at full terminal. Going in under a double mal. Pulling WAY low, and impacting with only a partially inflated canopy. And in all cases, I walk away from my little "dream bounces". I was always somewhat freaked out about my "going in and not dying" dreams. I was afraid that it meant I didn't have a healthy understanding (read as: fear) of what I was doing and the risks I was taking. I saw it as my subconscious kidding itself and saying "don't worry, even if something goes wrong, you'll still be OK." So I'm glad to see I'm not the only one having this type of dream. Knowing now that I'm not the only one, I would probably classify it as the skydiver's version of "Death Humor" that I see from time to time as an EMT. Sometimes you just have to joke about stuff (in the proper forum) as a defense mechanism to what you see on a bad call. So I guess these dreams are just our mind's blowing off some stress that accumulates as we deal with the risk of our sport. Good stuff. Keep on dreaming, kids. Elvisio "where's my sominex" Rodriguez
