Wow. I was having a pretty good morning. But now, I'm just very, very depressed. Apparently my life has been boring as hell. Elvisio "I have some catching up to do" Rodriguez

Is it better to ask permission or seek forgiveness?
skydiver30960 replied to boinky's topic in The Bonfire
Ah, yes. But consider the ever so slight, but ever so significant difference between what you said and what the title of the thread is. One truly is EASIER. But the other truly is BETTER. Elvisio "like I should talk" Rodriguez -
It looks like it takes about half a second to do it right. Doing it WRONG might take quite a bit longer, if you include the time it would take to learn to walk again in rehab! Elvisio "sick" Rodriguez

Why do we ask questions we really don't want the answers to? Elvisio "my jump plane was old enough to buy beer the day I was born" Rodriguez

High: Taking a Rookie Firefighter course, so I'm learning about something new that really excites me. Low: Course happens on weekends, so no jumps and no tandem $$$. Elvisio "by the time course is over winter will be here" Rodriguez

I've seen that stuff too, my EMT instructor is named Bunny and one of her coworkers bought a can for her. I still have a can of the original "Whoop Ass" energy drink floating around here somewhere, if I could ever find it... Elvisio "tap the bottle and twist the cap" Rodriguez

Couldn't you just wear the "I dream of Jeanie" costume from Rantoul a couple years ago? elvisio "heads were turning" Rodriguez

Wasn't the original quote something like "how could 59 million people be so dumb?" To which my response was: "how could so many people outside the U.S. think we give a SHIT what they think?" Elvisio "present company excluded of course" Rodriguez

I approve. I may not be camping out for the opening, but I approve. Elvisio "let it be so" Rodriguez

Why do some countries measure weight in KG?
skydiver30960 replied to skyhighkiy's topic in The Bonfire
I'm really bummed that Darkwing hasn't chimed in on this thread. I think he hangs mostly to the Gear and Rigging forum... Elvisio "fun with physics" Rodriguez -
What's your local "voter fraud" story?
skydiver30960 replied to PhillyKev's topic in Speakers Corner
Heh, if we're lucky it'll only be a long NIGHT. Elvisio "we charge the courthouse with injunctions at dawn!" Rodriguez -
I'm goin' with Wild Bill Gates because Hef is too old, and Trump is a dork. Elvisio "viagra can only do so much for the man, no matter how much time he spends in the grotto" Rodriguez

Bingo. I thought it was a good premise, and the first thirty minutes or so showing all the previous murders were truly BADASS. But Cary Elwes' acting was AWFUL. Elvisio "two thumbs down" Rodriguez

Why put a cartoon/graphic in your avatar?

I'm ugly. Elvisio "thanks for reminding me " Rodriguez -
Sorry, I didn't have time to identify it as I was immediately struck blind the first glimpse I got of it. Elvisio "the human body is resilient, but not that resilient" Rodriguez

Nope. Not sure about anything. I'm not the most politically astute person in the world, so maybe the nation's thinktanks have been grinding away on this one for three years now without my being aware of it, but howcome this is the first I've heard of it? If something else (missle, military jet, commuter jet, hotdog stand, whatever) did spank the Pentagon, then what happened to the 757? Where are all the as-yet-unaccounted-for passengers? Elvisio "not a conspiracy theorist" Rodriguez

I'll probably leave it too. All the pictures they showed (and the pictures we're used to seeing on tv) are of planes that crashed on landing. Low speed, low angle of attack. In this situation, an aircraft that was HAULING (I think that's an FAA approved term) impacted either a very well built building or (according to the video) the ground immediately proximate to the pentagon. Have you ever seen video of an out-of-control plane crash? Like, when that Russian jet and American F-16 piled it in at airshows? I remember "real tv" or some other program showing a B-52 going in out of control. The aircraft doesn't crash as much as MELT. Complete disintegration. The combination of the speed of the impact and heat of the explosion go a long way to eliminate any aircraft aluminum that may be hanging around afterwords. Elvisio "interesting food for thought though" Rodriguez

Legal question about "employment at will"
skydiver30960 replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in The Bonfire
I think I'm with Deuce on this one. Maybe. Like Deuce said, "at will" employment (I'm pretty sure) just means that you or your employer can terminate your employment at any time, i.e. no contract. My first thought is with Deuce, that there's no harm in asking, worst thing that could happen is they'll say no and you'll be back at square one. My only other concern is: how badly do you need your job? If you make this counteroffer and they tell you to get stuffed, will you be able to get by until you get a new job? It COULD happen, but IMO isn't too likely. My thought on the matter is that if they shitcan you just for asking then it's too damn unstable a place to work anyhow, so they did you a favor. All in all, I say go for it. Be calm, have a plan of attack, point out everything you'll be doing and bringing to the new position. Make it sound like a deal to them: "look at all you're getting for only X more dollars a year". CAVEAT EMPTOR: I'm giving employment advice, and I've been unemployed for almost a year now. -

Funny, most women bitch that men don't communicate enough... But we know that dz.commers are not "most women". Elvisio "beat ya to the punch" Rodriguez

If my lady wants more money, I could get a second job... If my lady wants her man to have a bigger d**k then I can get surgery... If my lady wants me to be more refined I can go back to school... But if she wants a partner with two tits and a kitty, then I'm pretty much out of luck, so I'd let her roll. Elvisio "no sex changes for this little boy" Rodriguez

It is done. Elvisio "glad I got to see it happen" rodriguez

Man, that's great. She KNEW she was busted. She should blame nobody but herself for being a chickenshit and trying to lip sync in the first place. God forbid you should actually have to display some spontaneous talent to get attention nowadays. Elvisio "still venting" Rodriguez

I love yahoo for no other reason than the fact that they do a great job at filtering the spam out of my email. Not a plug for yahoo in particular, I know that lots of other email services (dz.com too!) do that for us. But what amazes me is the sheer quantity of spam and junk mail we get every day. I understand the idea of "you'll never catch a fish if you don't cast a line"... and I also understand that spamming somebody is basically a free and low-cost way to reach tons of people but there is still some kind of effort involved to make it happen. Junk mail is worse because you as the advertiser would actually need to print all that crap and then pay postage (albeit a very reduced bulk rate) to deliver it to my mailbox. What amazes me about it is that I cannot recall EVER in my life purchasing a product or service that I heard about on spam or junk mail. Am I the exception? How many people that you know have done so? Has anyone here ever bought something worthwhile off of spam or junk mail? Do you even open your spam folder, EVER? How can this be a profitable solution for ANYBODY in any kind of business, legitimate or otherwise? The only possible exception I can think of is credit card applications. Americans are so credit-addicted that I can see where it (unfortunately) makes sense to carpet the world with credit card applications because if you DO respond, then they can bend you over and impale you with baseball-bat-sized interest charges. (can you tell I hate credit cards, too?) I used to have the same feelings about telemarketing, but since I got all my numbers on the no-call list my life has been much more tranquil in that regard. Is there a "no junk mail" list? Thanks for listening; elvisio "my bluk mail folder gets more action than a two dollar whore" Rodriguez
