  1. Makes me what to run for office. Where else can you be a crook and get away with it. Carl Levin where are you at on my list... Near the top. Thanks to him we paid 25 million dollars to rename the federal center to the Hart-Dole-Inoya Federal Center. I could have used some of that money..... 2. I put a big NO on this response since the USPA is here to promote skydiving. In promotion you want more jumpers and members. A tandem only DZ would limit this to one to four jumps per a student if that. So there goes the drive to carry on with AFF, SL or what ever other options are to avail. Photography, free flying, etc...etc... If the USPA is looking to boost membership then this is not a way to do it unless each person who does a tandem is now a USPA member. But this gets into the points is who will administer this sign up program and what does the DZ operations get from doing all the leg work. As a way of winning a boost of promotion I feel that each and everyone of us do this every day in our daily lives: be it you are a doctor, engineer, teacher, or just work in a office. Our selves promote the sport and I know personally attempt to get someone to try it at least once as a way of boosting our sport. So lets have every member raise this level up some more and booster this sport higher. I am still waiting for the sport to be in the olympics (spelling)... But dont see those fashest doing that other then let us jump in the openings... Where else can you get 2 or more people to perform moves in the air and make contact agina to earn points with all the other factors that must be taken into play. But they let some people on the ice with a broom and a big ball to move it..... What am I thinking,......???? 3. personally would not recommend taking up golf. With the time that you have had. Just learn from it and grow. We all make mistakes and we learn from each one of those. Correct? So with that said just keep jumping if you want to really try gold do it on you home PC... Keep blowing holes in the clouds,,,, Kenneth Potter FAA Senior Parachute Rigger Tactical Delivery Instructor (Jeddah, KSA) FFL Gunsmith
  4. Rigger please Only used when talking to another Rigger. If used out of the Rigger Community heads get turned, for some reason. Kenneth Potter FAA Senior Parachute Rigger Tactical Delivery Instructor (Jeddah, KSA) FFL Gunsmith
  5. I started out on the static line program back in 1990. At brag, there we usually jumped uh-60 blackhawks and UH-1 Hueys. Got up to 45 secound delays and went to work in the middle east. Upon returning to the USA I had to basically start at stage two... as they did not offer Static line where I went.. So finished it all with the AFF... Do I like hop and pops?? No I dont as I have done alot of those 800 feet drops and one at 450 feet.. To this day it still gets to me but I have somewhat over come this by just doing it... You never know when you may need it... Just will not go lower then 3500 feet for H/P's... Maybe one day soon Ill take it down to 2500. I guess for me I did not have that big expense from learning as alot of it was covered with membership in the GB club.. including A/C support that also helped the crews keep there flying hours up there... Just another day..
  6. Each area has its own pros and cons: In respective AFF is faster chance of getting to free fall on jump one. This faster also does not come cheap. Each level builds up to that level of being a certified skydiver. We also have jumps where you do four tandems and the rest under AFF. First Tandem is basically the just a ride. 2nd jump you do things up to the 4th jump. After you complete these four jumps you do the AFF part that should have built up on what you learned with the tandem jumps. Cost goes down verses the AFF complet course. Static line of course starts out with five static line jumps. With at least three "go" dummy rigcord pulls... Then you build up from there to a 5sec hop and pop. 10, 20's, 30's, and 45 sec free falls each jump with certain task to perform. that meet the same requirements of the other programs. Cost is neg. but can take longer at times. Since you have the static line deployment. Correct me if im wrong but these static line jumps count towards the lic requirements as does the tandems. Either way it is your decision to make and I would recommenc checking with the DZ with what they offer and cost etc..... If you want in the air today then try a tandem with little class work to start... Unlike the sea the sky is even more unforgiving....... hope this helps.. 7. scarey, watching the video. was wondering if he tryed anyt practice pulls on the ground and air. Kenneth Potter FAA Senior Parachute Rigger Tactical Delivery Instructor (Jeddah, KSA) FFL Gunsmith
  8. I would say only buy new gear if you have the funds for it and then be prepaired to wait to have it made if it is custom made: IE colors, harness size. Biggest issue here: cost and time. Used gear you get it cheap but do not have the color or sizing you want inless you are luckey or just wait to find that deal. My first rig was custom made because I had all of the above for new gear. Plus I wanted my own all black container. My other rig is a used one. A old but still good military rig that is a great spare or for those days when I want to travel cross country from 10,000 feet. Plus it is a easy lander.... docile.. Kenneth Potter FAA Senior Parachute Rigger Tactical Delivery Instructor (Jeddah, KSA) FFL Gunsmith
  9. Sorry to hear that you are having problems in the UK. It totally blows me away that they want the riggers seal off a rig when it comes to the UK. While in the the US we use it everyday with no real issues. I guess that four extra pounds is just too much for them, but if that stops me from jumping when my life depends on it. I am sure that I would have the strength of a hundred men. It figures that they would make some changes over the US system. Just like they do with the certification of scuba diving cylinders. One area that i find issues with on the pull out is that at times it is hard to find the pud. While it is a great systems of having just a small bit to pull out to get the pC in the air the problem that Ive seen was actaully finding it when you need it..... Vs. a BOC where is is contanied in the pouch under the container or on the leg strap with the other version. This is just my own observations and all from my end. 10. I guess I had doen Mr. Bill jumps from the standard viewpoint. But now that I am much older feel these are dangerous to do and at 37 would not even think of it. My Mr. Bill jumps were jumping static line with MC1 parachutes were three of where contected together and the 3rd man contected to the UH-60. First man exits usually the lightest and the next one goes about a secound later and the next (last one) being the heavest... Parachute snap hook connected to the D-ring of the harness. I was usually the 2nd man out.. Usually as done it twice once out of OV-10 and the last time UH-60. Now that we think of this it was ever amazed the jumpmaster ever let us do this... but then again when your riggers everyone leaves you alone..... Unless you decide to take a MT1 out at 1500 feet and get that caught on video, well then the punishment was a letter in your file... Was there but did not do it... 11. Hopefully with a profit on your end of the deal. Since you invented, tested, etc....Not including its your design. Kenneth Potter FAA Senior Parachute Rigger Tactical Delivery Instructor (Jeddah, KSA) FFL Gunsmith
  12. Had a jumper puke on a Airborne operations (C-130) all over this Marines boot. Pretty smelly and all but after jumping the tailgate his boots were pretty much cleaned up. Just some small parts but nothing a little Kiwi could not fix... Sure glad I was not the safety who had to clean that mess up on the deck.. 13. Personally I would recommend against this unless she is not looking forward to another birthday. Why would anyone do something stupid? When we are already taking on added risk with all else that can go wrong. Yes, there is enough said here to make people understand that its just not right to do... So dont do it.... 14. This would be a great thing if the rumors are true. But I also hope that Bill Booth gets his part of it if true.... A great design. Kenneth Potter FAA Senior Parachute Rigger Tactical Delivery Instructor (Jeddah, KSA) FFL Gunsmith
  15. Just finished the Life and Health course for the Michigan L&H exam on Tuesday. This three door course covered alot of information on what all the stuff means and the laws covering this special Licenese. With over 40 something hours of study and all this and that I am ready... Just have to review the laws for this stuff on Monday and Tuesday morning. Once I pass this test its off to Chicago for 11 days of some sales school training... So for those who want to get into this business: study early and often.... So you can pass this test... I guess one person took this test 27 times before they passed it... What they did not study>>?? 16. The question that I need to ask is why in the world care weather someone is black, while, brown, green. I could care less what color someone is, as long as they treat everyone the same. This has no color. Basic human respect. What gets me is people who believe that somone owes them something because of there race. No, this is not a racial tone but somone that thinks that they are owed when they have not paid there dues or done anything. In the text Ive seen alot of differnet races and cultures that jump and scuba dive. Does it matter really to anyone what color there are. No. Kenneth Potter FAA Senior Parachute Rigger Tactical Delivery Instructor (Jeddah, KSA) FFL Gunsmith
  17. I must agree that is great customer service as far as checking with the customer. I guess alot of companies do not do this too much as it cost so much in man hours, or they dont care what the customer thinks? But when a company calls up and says how are things and are you happy with our product and do you think there is anything we can do to improve let us know. Now in this new market economy its outstanding,...
  18. We used to do this packing contest some years ago but with military rigs (MT1 series). But instead of just one we had a total of four to pack with the start time with proper layout to pin closing. Average time was worked in to like 4 minutes 45 secounds if memory serves. Of course we had one guy laying out the rigs for each team: as that helped keep things in tune since alot of these rigs came back in sometimes messed up for what ever reason or another. For MC1 series we worked on the same number and this was around four minutes average. Of course we would be the only ones whom would jump them and we had a IP (Inprocess Inspector) watching our work... Just in case you ask. I can recall some years ago packing a MT1 in a two and half ton truck in Honderous. What a cluster duck that was. Just glad it was mine and not someone elses... Opened with a bang... unlike the usual senvil... but still it worked.... Just my two cents here....... 20. Just proves that we need to know where we will be landing at well before we reach 1500 feet. Last second changes can be this result. I am sure that he will not do that one again. If one is going to do stupid things one must be tough to deal with it. Kenneth Potter FAA Senior Parachute Rigger Tactical Delivery Instructor (Jeddah, KSA) FFL Gunsmith
  21. Exit weight has alot to do with the rated capatity of a parachute. I first saw this back in 88 when we were test dropping over fifty thousand pounds for the C17 project. With 12 cargo parachutes: one of these parachutes opened two secounds before the other ones and needless to say it had totally blown its gores: (the other parachutes brought load down but harder then normal). So with this it goes for cargo parachutes as well as personal parachutes that if you exceed the max limits things will go. Plus added to this it is against the law to exit with a parachute that is overloaded to this point. Thats why they are published. While some compnaines will test there systems at a higher loading does not mean that you can jump them and be legal. So anytime you are going to purchase a main/ reserve you should know the legal limit and if you fall witin that max exit weight then either go with another size larger or lay off that soda/ pop before the next jump... (Best answer super size on the canopy size then the drink)... Kenneth Potter FAA Senior Parachute Rigger Tactical Delivery Instructor (Jeddah, KSA) FFL Gunsmith
  22. This really pisses me off.. Here we go again, some horney guys just could not find the time to look and not touch then to do what they did. They just let the little head think before the big head and I thought our soldiers where better then this... Sure loving ones hand would be better then serving time as bubbas b.itch but maybe thats what they want or will get.... Enough said: so if they are found for this then let the heads role.... Just another black eye for us all..... Kenneth Potter FAA Senior Parachute Rigger Tactical Delivery Instructor (Jeddah, KSA) FFL Gunsmith
  23. this brings in two trains of thought. Either pack it correct or don't pack it at all. Best method is to pack it correctly. Without knowing where you are having the most problems its hard for me to say here exactly without seeing. Have a instructor/ rigger oberve you and help you see exactly the area.. But it can also be you have too much bulk in the canopy when folding... Remove as much as as possible... if it helps then get some large clips to assist in holding the canopy together.. Just be sure to put a big flag on them so as not to pack them in the bag. Practice, practice, practice.... It does take time. if you have alot of bulk then it mostly is air.. keep your folds as best as you can and tight to not let them rise again and then put the corners into the D-bag one at a time then the other side ..then slide the whole thing in.. Once you have the locking stows in step on the d-bag to remove the rest of the bulf (this is redistrubute it)....then it should fit nice into the container... Kenneth Potter FAA Senior Parachute Rigger Tactical Delivery Instructor (Jeddah, KSA) FFL Gunsmith
  24. With all the other advice I would say that when all is said and done that you should pull alittle bit higher then you normally do so you can get to know the canopy. IE Stall points, turns, etc...... Of course a good inspection is needed before hand. Kenneth Potter FAA Senior Parachute Rigger Tactical Delivery Instructor (Jeddah, KSA) FFL Gunsmith
  25. Packing sucks!! I must disagree with. Give me some good tunes and a great area (atomphere). And I am there. If someone is just too .... to pack for themselves Ill do it. Sure Ill take your money and make sure that it is done well.. but also give you some points on how to help keep that gear working.. I for a matter of fact will trace the control lines down and remove the twist. Ive seen some that where twisted from toggles to the cascade. This just put ware and tare that is not needed. So if it keeps you flying and me five dollars more then great. ... When I was in the army 25 a day was the requirement. Do that and go home... So its no big deal here... Ive even did 50 in one day starting at 7 till 5.. Just had to be motivated to do it.... So with that its still cash for me....even more if its a reserve....
