  1. I think that we should negotiate with them. In fact invite them into our homes to sleep with our spouces and children. Yeah I am a firm supporter of this in fact I think that we should take a 747 loaded up with them and do them a favor and let them meet those 77 virgins as we crash it into the Koba.   2. Just shows that any American icon is bound to move out of the USA. Where will it stop?? I can only guess as long as Americans are thinking that they are the best they can and will be under sold in cheaper labor and cost. The real cost is' is there a cost savings if the name is down graded with a lower quality product with cost overruns and re-works... Then to here American arms being in made in Japan: when firearms are outlawed or restricted in this country. Just done understand this part.   3. Well Ford has recently announced that they are cutting like 25,000 to 30,000 jobs in the US in order to keep themselves in business. Well the only good news that I heard was they are going to pay me 29 cents per a share that Ive owned. Wonder what the US is going to do with these jobs and all.   4. Pat, hello, my fellow michiganer... I am sorry that you came across someones rig that is filled with this stuff. First I would suggest a good solid wash in warm water for a few hours. Using some liguid detergent (no bleach)...of course remove the reserve and main...etc.. just the harness/ container...no ADD... id say after two or three washes and rinses. the smell should be down graded. let dry out of direct sunlight. a dark room with fan help.... Do not place in the cloths dryer.. On the Main / reserve not much I can say here. Just have a rigger inspect it before April when the Dz's open back up......   6. First take off the main and reserve. Cover any velcro (hook) and make sure your container is clean or else they will wash it for you and the cost can add up there..... Include the cut away handle .. No need for the main or reserve unless you do not have the RSL.... Make sure you ship it a traceable method with insurance. Inside include a note of what you want done and how to contact you if needed........ Make sure your contianer is placed inside a plastic bag .. just in case it is raining the day of pick up or delivery.// (transport).//// I hope that this assist you and enjoy this great system......   7. Agree, and it still takes some getting use too from doing alot of those hollywood jumps then strapping a ruck on adds to the realism of the ruck taking you for a ride. Thats when I have to remember think and act big...hahahaha. Added to this if I were to pro pack this big boy my arms would be tired at the end of day. Just too much material to have to control and still get the rig packed for the next jump. I would suggest as it was already discused that you get your Lic and soem fun jumps and if/ when you do get a hold of a MT1.. that you seek a qualified instructor and practice like a level one AFF (checking your handles).....   8. I completly agree with Riggerrob on the issue of the Mt1. I am not just saying this because I have two, but they are well built. As to somewhat say that they are overbuilt for the cilivan market. Surplus models can range from 500 to a 1000 dollars. As far as that I would suggest that if you are looking to buy one that you have it checked by a FAA Rigger formilair with the MTI..IE ex- or current military riggers. Paying attention to the DD form 3912 or 10-42 for records of jumps and if the rig was ever used in salt water operations... Not that this is bad for Nylon but if it has not been rised fully and timly can be.. Easy to check in the seems of the container etc,.... I have recently began making my own tube stows for my personal rigs and thought that I would assist you all in making your own thus saving you lots of money. * Surgical tubing (Less then 1/4 inch in outside diameter) For regular stows cut about four inches. Should be avaible at home health care centers / Medical supply, etc...... * Rubber cement: this assist in lubrication making it easier to insert the ends and also keeps the bond together. Should be able to get at Wal-Mart/ Target etc... * forceps or needle nose pliers * razor or something to cut the tubing to size To Make: ** Cut tubing to desired length (this may take some trial and error to find the size that works for your lines and to keep proper tension on the lines) ** Apply a small amount of rubber cement to the inside of one side of the tubing (A side) then on the other side apply a small amount at least a half a inch inwards on the outside (B side). It is ok to have a small amount of cement on the inside of the B side. ** Attach the forcpts or needle nose plyers at a slight angle to the side B of the tubing and insert the needle nose or forcepts into the A side of the tubing at least a half and inch or more. ** Grasp the area where now side B is inside and release or open the grip on the tubing. Slowly remove the tip out of the tubing. (Be sure to hold on to the inserted side B when removing) (A small amount of cement will come out this is normal and is to be expected.) ** Slowly rub your fingers around the new joint to insure that all sides of this new joint are coated in glue. Some cement will come out, but do not roll with to much pressure forcing alot of the cement out. ** Then Slightly tug and turn slightly on this new joint to make sure that it holds first off. Do not move that much, as this would force the joint to fail. ** Let set for about two hours then before apply to your d-bag check one more time before appling. The main area of holding power will be in the area of the B side tip. I have even went on to stretch the tube stows when dry slightly and applied more cement on the B side and let the tube relax to fill in any voids that could have been created from before (if you do this let it dry for a hour before applyiing) I hope that this assist anyone who wants to be able to make their own tube stows and save alot of money at the same time.   10. From what I know if its expiared then your reserve pack job is out of date as well.. Not that I know this but ..... Meaning that you can not legally jump this rig until you get the AAD current....... You are also putting the DZ operation, pilot, and yourself at risk.... I am suprised the rigger that packed the reserve last time did not get it sent in for service when it was last repacked.....???   11. This sort of brings out the good old days back in 87 when I was at Charlie company, at Benning. Be ready to run alot as everyone has stated. In fact when I was there you had better be at a double time any time you are in the compnay areas. It was hard at first coming direct from Basic to jump school without having a real MOS... Riggers had to be Airborne before they went on to Ft Lee, VA for Rigger school....And being off at 1700 and wondering what to do...Like being off until the next day ..... then getting to Ft Lee later on and being locked down...   12. For 2006 my goals are to: Get my Master Riggers Lic. Get a few more jumps for my D lic. Pack my main great, so I dont have to use the reserve.... HAHAHA Teach my five year old to pack, so I can jump more..HAHA Personal goals: Get our family business up and running. Exercise more with the Tae-bo DVD's that I have.   15. In Asia Dogs are a meal. I wished I could have a pet at this time but with the youngest at almost two I have to wait until I get them a dog. To grow and protect them as they get older. But the issues that I can also face is their childhood friend and family memeber should die. What to do to deal with this. I know with my son that we could not have a cat since he would give it a heart attack... Fish: no way they would try and play with them out of the water. Bird: too much to just fly away Snake: not at this time. In all the best pet for me at this time is a nine dollar stuffed dog that I got at Rite Aid.   17. I jump the Mt1-1XX as my secondary rig behind my Manta. The only issue that I am faced with is the size / bulk of the rig within the confinds of a 182. the Mt1 handles well and I am sure to be able to stay up longer since it has more canopy to cover me. This winter I am planning on modifing the ripcord to a BOC.   18. Operations Supervisor for Yellow Transportation in Coldwater, Michigan. Before that I was the General Manager for IFCO Systems in the Target Distrubution Center (Galesburg, Michigan). Left for a better pay but lost higher position. Spent seven years in the mighty sand box (Saudia Arabia) working for Lockheed as a Air drop systems tech/ instrucor. (Left because seven years is too long when someone wants to kill you).. Also taught SCUBA diving there but could not jump, hated that. Seven plus years with the US Army at Ft Bragg. Moved three times durning these years at bragg. Spent alot of time TDY...
  19. You made a good decision. If you had deployed at 2500 feet you would not have had time to think and react. It would mor should have been to cut away of course. I usually pull at or above 3000 feet to give me that extra time to clear any problems that could accure it sure is less of free fall time but I can make that up for sure plus it gives me time to check out the view. You did the right thing and never second guess yourself. After all these years I still practice me malfuction review on the ride of on a majority of my jumps still......   20. I agree with what Starocloud has stated. And In addition I need to add that I started on the man of war back in the 90's and moved onto the manta and every since becoming certified I still jump the manta. Ive had no issues or problems with this canopy other then packing this big beast and packing someone elses supper small canopy hahaha.... But if you want a safety record look at the manta being more forgiving then those smaller canopies. Best to talk with your instructor and look at jumping something within your weight range this is a for ever pound your weight should equal at least one cubic foot of canopy material.... anything less and you could be asking for trouble until you get the experiences required for such a higher wing load factor. At presnet Im jumping a MTI Military rig like I used to pack and use while in the Army. This big thing is 340 cu feet about the same size of the small end tandem canopies. With my exit weight of just under 260 this gives me a better handling in ref to safety then just using a 260 cu foot canopy etc.....Plus I still like the rememberance of jumping these big rigs....hahahahaha...   21. If it was me I'd invest in a digital temostate just to make sure that I was not leaving that heat on too long or when I was not at home etc........ I've heard that by turning the heat down one degree you can save like 4 to 7 percent on your heating bill a month. Ware some more cloths while in the house and turn the heat down to low 60's at night and up to 68 when you get up and youll see a big savings... Just my two cents here, Thanks Ken.. On my DZ here in Michigan I know of only a few areas that will ban a skydiver from jumping there these are: Jumping a out of date reserve parachute: Have only seen one case in many years of this and this was for a year Pulling and/ or having a container open below 2000 feet (628 meters): this is the main canopy and Totally be unsafe in the air through no faught of their own. Suck as knowing that hook turns are not allowed and doing one. or knowingly creating a danger for himself/ herself and others As far as doing a bad review I would have hoped that this person would have attempted to get his point across first by talking with the DZ management on the issues that were a problem and generally I find that these matters can be confronted and repaired. I personally would not ban someone unless he or she had talked with me first on a issue. But if this person did not talk to me and then went on to post something then I could see no problem in banning them for a period of time. This of course has its pro's and con's but the end result is that person should have talked first to stop any free floating rumors that usually start. Just my two cents worth here. thanks Ken.   23. I have tried this some time ago back when I first started skydiving back in the early 90's. I will say this " that the opening was so so slow" that I had almost cutaway but when I looked up you could see the cells opening. If you want to slow the openings try rolling the nose a few trurns but do not go past the B lines. I usually pack my mains with the shacle pack method. This is by rolling the nose and stacking the nose and tail into the center then stacking both groups in this middle... Results are a more slower opening and reduction in ware and tear on a faster opening canopy. Less ware means a little longer life cycle. Just my two cents here and hope this helps.. thanks, Ken.
