Guys, girls who clean up after you've cooked, sexy?
klingeme replied to jjiimmyyt's topic in The Bonfire
I don't care if it is the opposite sex or not, if you didn't do the cooking, you should do the clean up. We used to have skydivers who would visit (when I was "cartaker" at a bunkhouse for a DZ) and anytime they would cook, I'd always take care of the dishes. Mark Klingelhoefer -
I don't consider myself a "hottie" but I have had one decent picture taken of me in the last 10 years. Mark Klingelhoefer

Chrysler to Shut Down All 30 Plants for One Month
klingeme replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
The unions are a big part of the problem. During this shutdown, everyone will still be payed, and paid more than the Americans making Toyotas in America. Mark Klingelhoefer -
"skydiver" in my eyes means you have some knowledge about the sport. You can do a tandem and still be a Wufffo. To not be a wuffo, by definition, you have to know the answer to the "Wuffo you jump out of a perfectly good airplane" question. That takes SOME level of knowledge.

Hogan's Heroes was Definantly funny. edited for SP

I don't know, I remember being in grade school and making Challenger jokes. I thought they were funny at the time, but completely based on a tragedy. there is a BIG difference between PC and funny. People with no arms and no legs are not funny (and are very handicapped) but if they are on the ground and their name is Matt, or they are floating in the water and they're name is Bob, well, then that is funny. PC and frunny are two different things.

Micron Spacer Foam / Back Pack / Padding options

Alex, Since this is part of the backpad, it can not be retrofitted. Mark Klingelhoefer -
Micron Spacer Foam / Back Pack / Padding options
klingeme replied to skyjuggler's topic in Gear and Rigging
Here are pictures of the 3d spacer foam and the padded stabilizers. The Deluxe Backpad is just extra foam sewn inside the backpad (between the backpad and the main and reserve containers) so you really can't see it. The padded stabilizers is Bill Booths version of the "Cut-in Laterals" available on other manufacturer's containers. The reasoning for not offering cut in's is that bill thinks that cut in laterals create a potential snag point at the bottom corners of the container where a line could catch if you deploy unstable. With the padded stabilizers, the stabs still come to the edge of the main container (thus eliminating the snag point) and only the laterals (the webbing that goes from hip to hip) is cut in and padded. On other versions, both the stabilizer and the lateral is cut in. Mark Klingelhoefer -
And Ayers was not a bad guy when Barack was hanging out with him right? You can't have it both ways.

Jump Tickets, how high before you quit?
klingeme replied to CMiller's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
has your local DZO lowerer the price of tickets to where they were when gas was $2 a gallon before? It has not happened around here. Back then I was paying $1,500 for a block of 100 jumps. Anyone getting $15 block tickets? Mark Klingelhoefer -
I'm sure Mark will chime in, but to my knowledge, no, there isn't. I've talked to(/annoyed) UPT a few times about getting magnetic riser covers on my 2003 V3 Micron. The word is that in order to retrofit any rig that didn't originally have them, you'd need to replace the rig's entire yoke. So they don't retrofit. The mod in this thread is only for V3's/Micron's that already have magnetic riser covers - adding additional magnets to account for a few minor problems. Given that a V2 has velcro riser flaps, I'm pretty darn certain it's the same thing as the V3. Lloyd os 100% correct on this. The Yoke design is completely different for tuck tabs, First Generation magnetic Riser Covers (the one the mod is for), and the current version of Magnetic Riser Covers. Therefore, there is not a modification available. Mark Klingelhoefer BTW, Thanks to the GREENIES for moving this thread to Gear and Rigging.

Damn, that tape you used was EXTREME. Thanks for the kind words, and I agree with you on the moving of the thread to G&R. Mods, would it be possible to move this thread?

Do you think a canopy courses should be required?
klingeme replied to JohnDeere's topic in Safety and Training
Put me solidly in the "make it a requirement" camp. When? Hmmmm...I voted "before A" simply because I feel the sooner the better but I'm still thinking on it. We do already have a Conopy Control Progression Card of sorts. The CC courses use it, I'm sure. For those who voted "big boys and girls", I ask you: That's what we have going now and with the current state of things, it's obvious that that approach is not working. Too many getting hurt under good canopies. Most, by far and away, are choosing NOT to take any advanced instruction of canopy control and you see where it's leading, right? For those who would willingly avoid obtaining a higher license because of additional training requirements...I'm not sure I want to be jumping with those attitudes anyway. I feel let down when I come across those attitudes. And you are right, John...there is the problem of training availability right now but that can be fixed. Train the trainers. Along this line, should DZO's be REQUIRED to designate someone as a "canopy course instructor" and what are the rewuirements for this designation? I personally live in Florida and canopy courses happen all the time around here, but for a little 182 dropzone to be required to fly in a Scott Miller or Luigi for anyone that wants an A, B, C, or D license is asking a lot. What would stop them from taking their "most experienced" instructor (maybe only 1,000 jumps) and making them their "instructor"? Mark Klingelhoefer -
Correct. All rigs currently being shipped have the 3 magnet "Sandwich" rather than just 2 magnets. Mark Klingelhoefer I misspoke in this post. see the post above this for the current configuration. Mark

The mod is just for existing containers. We have redesigned the way they close. Here are pictures of the way they are currently shipping (with 4 magnets, not 6). Picture 1 shows the RC closed. 2 Shows them open, and 3 shows the pockets that the "field replacible" magnets fit into. Mark Klingelhoefer

We are putting together a video showing how to do the mod (done on my container for the video) and it should be available sometime next week. I will post a link when it is up. This video shows my rig before the mod and after the mod. Mark Klingelhoefer

Hillary - She's Been Asked And She Said YES ..
klingeme replied to christelsabine's topic in Speakers Corner
He's already backtracking on a lot of "promises" he made during the campaign, so I'd say his popularity in 4 years could very well allow this. Remember, he has to deliver "taxbreaks to 95% of the population" to live up to his promises. Mark Klingelhoefer Why, hello there Hannity talking point. This is what he says every night on his show now. So that makes it untrue? -

He wanted the bailout, but not all the pork that got attached to the bill. I was not in favor of the bailout, but I was really pissed when a 10 page documnet became a several hundred page document filled with pork in the congress. I know my numbers on the pages are off, but you get the point. Mark Klingelhoefer

Along with Hand Deploy Pilot chutes, BOC pouches, Riser Covers, "piggy back" containers, the Sky Hook, and the Colin's Lanyard, to name a few Bill Booth inventions.

They make the rig look better so we are pretty much doing this mod to all the rigs that come in for any type of repair. Mark Klingelhoefer
