Good advice. The standard rule is 14 mph. As noted earlier in these posts there are some exceptions to the rule. At Sebastian we are waivered to 17 mph. That doesn't mean that we automatically jump in those winds just because we have the waiver. Huge difference between a nice steady wind or something that is gusting. It's ok for some students to jump in pretty strong winds if it is nice and steady. However, if it is gusting from nothing up to 17 mph then that is another story and even a fair amount of experienced jumpers should be sitting on the ground. Gusts can create some very unpredictable landing situations.

CrossKeys does charge a fee but they have low jump tickets and lots of extras like the free pizza and beer on Saturdays. If you think your $15.00 a year comes even close to helping cover the costs of maintenance and all the other things you're crazy. If understand that if you are only showing up to do a couple of jumps that it sucks (they do have a daily rate as well) but if you are jumping there regularly - it's smarter to pay the $15 and have the lower jump ticket.

Jason is the airport manage. No he has no idea about skydiving at all and doesn't give a damn about it. The article is a very old article. The move to the other field for the skydiving center is something that has been on the table for a long time. What Vic (in my opinon) was trying to do with the interview was play up how bad the move was for the business because we don't want to move the dz to a different spot on the airport for so many reasons. Therefore he made every thing sound much more ominous than it really is. (Politics, you all know how that goes). Sebastian like any dropzone has it's ups and downs. It is one of the few strong ones though like Z-hills, Lake Wales and DeLand that always manages to weather it out. Unlike DeLand, Teams do not make the DZ here. As far as the daily operations go do you think the average jumper notices that Alchemy isn't here? The average jumper barely noticed they were here when they were here. The biggest change I notice in manifest is that I have more room for our fun jumpers on everyload with out all our sponsored jumpers. I miss the indivduals as we all do but now if you come out - I've got room for you on the plane! The view is still beautiful, the jumps are still great and if you come on out you'll see what it's all about. It's funny that the people who are the most negative are ones that I don't know and never see here. They must be listening to the rumors and helping twist and spread them about. Just like the jumper who showed up the other day surprised that we were open because evidently the rumor in Titusville for a month or more has been that we have been closed. We're still here. It's a long term DZ and despite whatever changes take place I don't think you'll see Sebastian disappear. It's too nice a spot - someone will always take care of it.

It's only a symbol because you're making it into one. Someone one day thought it was cool and hung it on a string. It isn't something you need to show a license to buy. It's jewelery pure and simple. Some people put a lot of meaning into it - usually newer jumpers. I used to wear one and used to make them but since almost everyone has one I don't like to wear it anymore. Wow, maybe no one will recognize the fact that I'm a skydiver without my symbol. Maybe I'm not a skydiver unless I wear one...

I agree. It's a necklace for crying out loud. If I want to give one to every single person I know - I will. It doesn't matter if they have a clue what it is. When someone asks them about it they can say "This? My friend/sister whoever gave this to me - it has something to do with skydiving." Publicity, baby - bring in more people. Wearing a necklace does not make one a skydiver. And being a skydiver is not some thing that makes you better than anyone else.

everything about everyone can be found somewhere on the internet. Unless you are illegal and don't exist on paper - it's out there for someone to find. If you want to find it even quicker - pay someone else to search for it. If someone wants to find you - they will - why worry about it?

I used to have a lot of guns. The ex has most of them now. He even broke in and stole a few of mine that I kept when I left. My favorite pistol to shoot was my Glock 19 (although my .22 ruger is more accurate). I'm a better shot with a rifle. I'd definitely be the sniper hiding in the bushes type just waiting for the perfect shot.

I not only post from work but I am often posting for work about events coming up or trying to entice people here to jump with us. As long as I'm doing that - why would they complain?

I agree. It's just a piece of jewelry. We aren't a secret society. Anyone who walks into any skydiving shop can buy one and should not be discouraged from doing so. Stop with the wholier than thou attitudes already.

Pretty much every dz does it. I've spent many a holiday dinner at Sebastian, Lake Wales, CrossKeys, etc.
