TK You could complain to the governor, what his name? My guess is that GW will visit Centcom befor the election after we win in Iraq, So he can hand out a bunch of medals to show his appreciation and get some more votes. Hope for rain or high winds. R.I.P.

NIMBY, The locals also get stuck with the extra cost of law enforcement which is not reimbursed. If the local citizens got to vote on the president passing thru their town I don't think it would pass. IMO suck it up TK welcome to the real world. It may be your DZ but not your world. Your customers and bosses will know it's for the good of the country and just the cost of doing business.

Need help from someone smart about interest rates
slug replied to Skymonkey13's topic in The Bonfire
IMO a 3.9% CC rate is what is called in the industry a "teaser rate". Read the fine print in the contract. Example Home depot 0% interest as long as you pay off the loan in 12 month's. Fine print says if the balance is paid in full in the 12 month's you will incure 18% interest from date of purchase on total amount charged (not outstanding balance). Want to jump from one teaser rate to another? That only works if you can find a teaser that will accept your business. But they can see the writing on the wall your bouncing from one CC company to another. Talked with a car dealer buddy who was recently assigned finance duties. I asked him the max he got in the last couple of month's for financing a car 21%. The folks had bad credit so they had to pay a little extra due to the risk. If you have a credit union at work I'd start there. No rule of 78's, auto pay from you paycheck etc. Also check out Bankrate.com they tabulate loan rates all over the country and have 800 phone #'s you can call. Beware Read and understand your contract. There's no santa clause. If someone is has a very low rate there's a reason. R.I.P. -
Hi Casch Go for it! We need guy's like you in the military, young, bright, good shape. Don't forget to listen to your recruiter he's your friend. Read what your signing. It's a 4 yr contract and if you break that contract your in deep doo doo for a very long time. FWIW I did four yr's in the air force and had a great time. the G.I. bill is a added plus. R.I.P.

Sabres have opening problems. It's no secret
slug replied to TomSpoon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I agree most excellent entertainment. To carry your example a little further how many people have bought a new car and ended up with a lemon? Wa state now has a lemon law after the dealer can't fix it after X try's they have to but it back. Anyone who produces X widgets will produce some that are out of spec's. That the chance we have to deal with with whatever we buy. Some manufactures stand behind some of their products even after the warrenty period has expired ( personnel experience) because they know that on the based on repair history, disapointed customers they put out a lemon. Personally I've only had 2 unforgetable openings on my sabre (80's model) out of 200+ jumps. Both were related to packing. I wouldn't be surprised that due to the variable's in the production process if some Sabre's have different opening characteristic's than other's aka slammers. R.I.P. -
What would happen if Bush was waiting to find the WMD's?

>>You don't really think the officers would handle the Sarin and Anthrax themselves, do you? That's what enlisted men are there for. >> The "chain of command" is a useful tool. The officers command and the shit flows downhill to the enlisted swine. The chain of command is also useful on the way up the chain. Somehow the facts that the big boy's don't want to hear about, get "left out" in the summary, deleted, whatever before they get to the top. Thats what the little officers are for. Chain of command = Food chain. R.I.P. -
Hi Prepcheckt I responded to your E mail earlier based on the past history of the academy leadership failing to address reports sexuall haressment/rape cases in the past. I live on the west coast and just saw the segment of 20/20 thaqt you refered to so I need to add to what I had previously posted. Based on tonights T.V. I'm not a lawyer so I can't tell if the case presented on 20/20 meets the definition of rape or not. In a criminal or military court. What I can tell is that the new leadership at the acedemy has adopted the appearence of zero tolerence where there is a claim of sexual assualt. I don't know if a BAT 12 hr's after the event could have provided objective evidence if the female cadet had given informed consent All the folks in the service and vets know that the UCMJ has different standards than in the real world.Plus you are being judged by by the military that now has their own agenda. IMO if your attending the academy keep your pants zipped to try and avoid any appearence of inappropiate behavior, and don't meet with the opposite sex unless there are other folks present so no he said she said. Hopefully this will keep the Brass from getting invloved and having to make a decision. I know some folks who have adopted the same attitude in the real world, never be alone with someone elses children, wifes, or women you don't know very well. A lot of women/children get abused and a lot of guy's get wrongly accused. As far as how this present Air force academy situation reflects on the individual cadets that don't have any skeletons in their closets, don't worry be happy. Most folks won't judge you by the mistakes made in the past by your peers and leadership. Your present classmates that havent got the message yet won't last not because of the new system, but because their not smart enough to accept the new reality. The people in the real world that want to consider all cadets sex crazed rapists can think what they want. Most folks will read between the lines and judge all graduates on a individual basis. Keep your nose clean and be proud when you graduate. My money is sending your butt to school so please don't waste it, and learn how to spell.

My first rig: New Custom Mirage G3 with artic and stainless
slug replied to skipro101's topic in Gear and Rigging
Nice rig dude! Since you got a red jumpsuit you might want to consider changing your red Freefly handle's from red to black. So they will be more "outstanding" doing FF. Just my opinion plus you can save the red handles for spares or if you get a black jumpsuit,The red handles will still be outstanding. R.I.P. -

We had a TRO against our neighbor. When we went to court to make it permanent their lawyer asked for payment of their legal fee's for "mailicious prosecution" which the judge denied -
I haven't watched the show but based on what I've read. Are you refering to the recent change in command and rumor's of rape and the the fact that a congress person had to get involved to get the issue addressed at least to some degree. I don't htink this is a witch hunt. The chain of command failed, sending out the same SOP (don't do this or that) every year and then punishing the messenger is B.S. IMO The scandel at the USAF is a black mark on all officers, and their "moral code". R.I.P.

You're citing a comedy movie as support for an argument that recruiters routinely lie to enlistees? Wow! What a wonderful degree of credibility that has! Sorry for the humor How about based on my four years in the USAF I never met a person who was told the truth by a recruiter. It was a standard statement "when I get out of basic I'm going to go back to that recruiter and beat the crap out of them". Where do you think the comedy writers get their material from? The curtains on the windows and sleeping in late was satire. But if you want to have your kid sign on the dotted line because his recruiter told him so & so thats fine with me

What would happen if Bush was waiting to find the WMD's?
slug replied to turtlespeed's topic in The Bonfire
How can you make a statement like this? Do you know all of the troops in Iraq? It's possible that there are some troops that aren't honorable. I trust the enlisted troops in Iraq however above the enlisted swine level (I earned the right to say that) than you have the infamous "chain of command" national security, classified info, need to know, bean counters, and General's, and officers who want to be be generals etc etc. We have seen military coverup's over the last 30 years and afaik they started above the "enlisted swine level" . R.I.P. -
I'm with you, Jeanne. His logbooks would settle things (at least for us ). mh I agree with amazon and MH how may flying hours did GW perform once he qualified on the F102. Then subtract the hours he needed to qualify for flt pay. R.i.P.

Read that a prospective juror told the judge all the folks sitting at the defendents table looked guilty and she wouldn't want to meet any of them them in a dark alley. The only ones sitting at the table were the defense lawyers. The judge told the lady he wasn't going to ask her what she thought of him because he was afraid of what she would say and let her off jury duty. You can also try that based on T.V. if the cops bust them their guilty. R.i.P.

IMO the draft already exists except it's called the National guard and reserve's. It will be interesting to see what happens to them after this effort at nation building is over. The old farts will be retired and the young ones will think twice about one weekend a month vs 18 month's active duty. If the Feds tried a real draft I think they would find a lot of ineligable folks due to the "don't ask don't tell policy" Damn 80% of the age group is gay and the high rate of failed U.A.'s. As far as what a recruiter tells someone. Lets get real they have a quota to meet and without the draft they have a hard sell. Remember the Goldie Hawn movie? FWIW I took my draft physical at the infamous Whitehall street (Alices resturant) They were nice enough to give us 1SH deferment (1965) for 6 month's so we could finish high school. After 6 month's automatic 1A. The air force and the G.I. Bill was very nice to me. The reserves and the guard had a 5 yr waiting list . R.I.P.

There have been a lot of twin beech crash's involving skydivers I think one went in at pearl harbor during a demo at he hula bowl. We lost one in Kansas on T.O. The pilot tried to horse the thing off the ground before he had the required ground speed & sucked the gear up on T.O. and then landed befor he reached the end of the runway. The pilot was the first one out of the airplane and left all the switch's on. Big fire! We heard the guy didn't have time to get the plane insured befor the accident One jumper had his seat belt ride up under his belly wart and couldn't get out. Another jumper (maybe matt Farmer) went back and got him. Someone else got a cheapo camera from their car and got a nice color photo of the plane and fireball. The photo was published on the front page of the K.C. Star. What was that twin engine airplane that Mr Mayfield had a tailwind? looked like a twin beech except had a tail with a single verticle stablizer grafted onto it's butt. At L.P. Ted asked us and some others to give him a hand pushing the thing back no problem! But as we were pushing the thing and getting covered in oil, we were joking that was as close as we wanted to get to that bird. The Westwind is a nice twin beach, I'd jump that one any day! Anyone know if Stormville N.Y. had a Lodestar for a while, way bach when? R.I.P.

We dodged the draft in 1966 and joined the Air force for 4 yr's. Loadmaster on C-130E's. IMO Best job for a enlisted swine in the USAF. R.I.P.

It took a while for our dogs to train us not to leave our shoes laying around Since we're slow learners our solution was to buy the same shoes (lot's) and whenever the hounds got one we'd just throw the spare shoe in the pile. We actually did come out with a couple of extra pairs from the orphans! So save your orphans shoes the law of probability will work R.I.P.

>>We discussed this before, there is a huge difference between a 7 cell reserve made 20 years ago and one produced today. And as "Alan" posted, F-111 has not been manufactured in years. What is used today is a LoPo type material about 0-3 cfm. Your Swift Plus 145 reserve, while loaded high for your experience, will probably save your life, but there are canopies out there today that will do the same thing with less chance of injury.>> If I was just getting into the sport and buying "new gear" than that's what I would do. But since I 've been around for a while and I know that I can land my swift 5 cell I'm not concerned about using it again. I know it's not worn out due to being repacked If no one wants to buy a used swift regardless of their weight or jumping style or price that's their choice. If a super hot rigger doesn't want to pack a 20 year old reserve regardless of it's condition and history that's their choice, just like it's my choice not to do business with them. Yea I know they won't miss my business. But If I ever get newer gear or someone asks I'll tell them my opinion of that rigger and take my business somewhere else. Power to the pencil!
