SDC is a special place because ot the leadership provided by roger. He was a innovator and had a rep for encourging the expereienced jumpers to help out the less experienced. IMO Every dropzone adopts the personality of the people that run the place, all dropzones are not equal in their treatment of the newer jumpers, people who aren't part of the clique, males or guests. To bad so sad just the way it is. R.I.P.

Well this company has a list of products that they sell to fight the effects of depression but I don't see any semen for sale. I wonder if ..... Forget it all those 5 page waivers and lawyers, bad idea. R.I.P.

"NO landing injury was EVER caused by a bad spot. A landing injury happens when jumpers fail to utilize all the area around them for landing. It really grates my goat whenever I see someone post landing injuries were the result of a bad spot. BS. I know this is a hypothetical you are discussing here. I just thought I'd bring that point up now. " Sorry but I have to agree with diverdriver. As far as always spotting for yourself I'm confused how you do this on a tight exit. Or even a four way.The way I've seen it done is one person for each group verify's the spot, other planes etc. I never bitch about a bad spot, I just laugh it off. If you don't have confidence in the person spotting get on another load. But I also don't jump a rocket ship that needs a runway to land on. After learning to jump in texas and kansas on rounds the rule was go for the closest road not to land as close to the DZ as possiable and have a long walk. Now with the squares If I'm concerned after openng (RW) about the spot to bad so sad I have to be responsiable for my own safety so I immediatly start picking out alternates just in case I'm not going to be able to make it back. If it's to windy don't jump! R.I.P.

I have to vote with the old farts. Learn to fly without them and if you "feel the need for speed" then go for it. Full face helmets & booties all that stuff was started by the Teams that decided it would give them a competitive advantage. Then it trickeled down to fun jumpers and now "less experienced" jumpers. Ever see the little kids playing T-ball and wearing a batting glove. They want to be like the pro's. Power steering? Why worry about it if your driving a lawn mower? We discussed the bootie issue with some of the pro's and their response was something like how many jumps you got? going to compete? don't worry about it. Me thinks some of your skydiving sisters have some jumpsuits w/o booties that they won't miss for a weekend. Borrow it and try it out. BTW if you get the full face helmet be sure you get the nice custom fit padded helmet bag that match's the colors of the rest of your gear. Everyone has a opinion there just not always the same. R.I.P.

QuoteWhat's up with "The Domestic Security Enhancement Act of 2003" Depends on who you talk to. IMO After 9/11 lots of things happened. As long as your back ground is clean, haven't traveled to the Axis of evil, name wasn't mentioned by bad people in conversations that were monitored, Name wasn't contained in documents captured from bad people. Than you got a chance of not having a problem. But there have been rare cases of mistaken Identity. Not sure about specific's requirements of fingerprinting foreigners upon arrival in the US. Or any of that other stuff. But if your clean you should still be OK. The euro is very stong now against the Dollar so a trip to the US should be less expensive this year. If your a bad person or do something considered a threat, I don't think you will to need pay a lawyer to help you. Because you may not have access to one. Some people like the new rules it makes them feel safer. If you don't hear from me again, don't ask. (joke) R.I.P.

Amazing!!! Velocity sports is not a big operation. They make quality rigs but replacing the rigs for free is costing them big bucks. I hope everyone checks out the new infinity rigs at elsinore and maybe throw velocity sports some business. The value of the gear that was lost & uninsured is amazing. Back in the day a person could buy a cessna jump plane for the cost of the video gear alone. I hope this serves as a lesson to the other pro's in the country/world to insure your stuff as "tools of the trade " and hope the insurance company pays if there's a claim. BTW the nomex helmet bag that saved some of the gear are these the military surplus helmet bags that are available for $10-$20. R.I.P.

Damn! Nice rig small volumn, I had to read it twice to catch that the main was a 5 TU 24 foot reserve!! My first rig was a 28' orange and white 7 TU with a eliptical cut for the extra drive with a 24' reserve. The container was a B4 with the sides extended, and reached from the bottom of my butt to the back of my neck 5'2" (vertically challenged), weighed about 120#'s. Had to wait until we were 21 yr's old because we needed momma's permission if We were under age . Still remember sitting in the plane climbing to altitude , no door, cold and one shoulder strap kept on slipping off my shoulder, and the damn B4 container hitting me in the back of my helmet since I was sittiing down We jumped at a small DZ and were not allowed to jump the infamous killer PC until we had 75 jumps on rounds. That was the rule no downsizing because of the "high performance" PC and we might hurt ourselve's making a low turn to close to the ground. Time march's on

I met my old sakydiving roomie from the early 70's how come we never had any of those parties at our house? "Say what" Dude we had them every weekend you just don't remember them. Damn I remember going to college and jumping. But the weekends at our house were a blur. My wife now, then my girlfriend says it used to get old walking over the bodies Saturday and Sunday morning. What the hell happened? I lost two years! But it must have been fun! R.I.P.

40 years until retirement good news bad news. We went to some retirement planning stuff and with compound interest etc. There is a very significant advantage to start saving "whatever you can" when your young, rather trying to play catch up when you get older. There may be some table's info etc. on the benifit's of early retirement savings on Bankrate.com. Of course all this math stuff leave's out the intangiable benifit's of the "fun factor" that you'll be missing out if your saving rather than doing starbucks, new cloth's, fancy cars etc. Beware of Enron type retirement plans

If your young or old enough you can enlist in the military and go play in the sand BTW when we had a active military draft Viet Nam commie domino theory. US citizenship was not required to be drafted. Of course there was a option some folks packed their bags and returned to their home country. Now the draftee's (we still have draft boards and require registration) has been replaced by the reserves and the national guard. Those poor folks have no options. I support our troops and their families.

Considering the cost of insureing the DZ's equipment, the incremental increase in the cost of the policy for covering the staff's gear maybe be very reasonable if it's available but the added cost would have to be covered by the DZO. This is based on the benifit of 20-20 hindsight so maybe the staff at other DZ's may want to discuss this with the DZO. Second best get your own insurance for work gear. Due to the estimated time for replacement gear, maybe rental gear should also be covered until new stuff arrives. No work no pay

if your not jumping for a while...
slug replied to gerryfuss's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Bugs "trapped" in a canopy will only decompose and deteriorate the material (if true) if you don't clear that stuff from your canopy befor storing it for a extended period of time. Cockle Burrs aren't very canopy friendly either. Rules on a 120 day packing cycle on the main? I wonder how this can be enforced. Skydiver honor system? Or a packing card signed and dated by the jumper I know someone "don't remember his name your honor" who got a fresh repack on their reserve and jumped the main with a 7 yr old pack job. The rig was kept in the closet for 7 years in a plastic container. The sabre worked fine at terminal. My lazy friend was a happy camper since, he didn't to pay for another reserve pack job. WARNING! I don't recomend this stupidity to anyone. Not sure of the condition of the rubber bands when the rigger packed the 7 yr old reserve pack job. Heard some horror stories about rubber bands melting together or becoming brittle over time. This could be the result of storing the rig in the trunk of car during the summer time in a very hot climate. R.I.P. -

Can anyone who has never skydived truly "understand" it?
slug replied to lawrocket's topic in The Bonfire
That's pretty much what I was thinking (except for the grammar error ). Golfer: hole in one, Bowler 300 game, Stamp, coin collector: big find, Gambler, What ever floats your boat. R.I.P. -

slug replied to gerryfuss's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Don't worry be happy! At your experience level you need the practice packing anyway. Plus you get to handle all that nylon. Packing for yourself is free, you won't wear out the canopy and you might have fun, Try Packing in the nude. R.I.P. -
GM credit card 5% credit towards nw car or lease max credit $500/yr last yr got card in mail for additional $1000 off. Total amount saved on new GM car $4000 just befor we signed the peper. "oh ny the way" It took us six years to save the $3k they may have changed the max allowed accrued depending on type of card. Platinum sucks Capital one 1% goes into frequent flyer miles account, 25k miles required for domestic flight. Neither has annual fee Beware if you carry a balance or pay late very bad deal. Costco Card 2% cash back just about pays for cost of card. R.i.P.

Why do gear manufactures promise a date that they can't deliver on
slug replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Gear and Rigging
A good point that bears repeating. Every manufacturer has at one point or another delivered both before and after the date they estimated they would. Always remember that quoted delivery times or estimated completion dates are just that - estimates. Five weeks "late" isn't bad at all compared to the 10+ weeks "late" some other folks have had to wait lately. Also, things can happen between the time you are given a completion date and when that date comes - many of them things that are out of the manufacturer's control and that could not have been predicted (delayed hardware and fabric shipments are not uncommon). The estimated delivery date is a scam! In this case estimated means "we don't know" or worse we know and aren't telling because you won't order our product. What have the dealers done to inform their customers of this problem? by using the term "estimated". They have ordered a bunch of rigs and have the data based on past orders. A auto repair shop has to give a "estimate" on the cost of repairs if the cost of repairs is going to exceed their estimate by $X than the customer has to be notified prior to proceeding this is the law in some states because auto estimates were a scam! Mail order companies are required by law to notify customers when their order can't be filled by a certain date and offer a refund. Befor the internet this was a local secrete. Want to solve the problem someone do a poll listing manufatures and differences between estimated delivery time and actual. Then your a informed consumer What would happen if a manufactor told you the actual delivery time and then subtracted $100 per every week they were late. Prices would rise to pay the late fee, manufactor's with long delivery time's would lose business.Manufactors who delivered on time would be rewarded by a increase in their business Some manufactor's had a agreement where some of the larger dealers could place orders in advance so when a customer wanted a rig they could jump to the front of the line shortening the wait time. There is a easy solution to this problem find out who's doing what (poll) and then make a informed choice based on actual delivery dates rather than a "estimated" (open ended) delivery date. -
The picture shows the tandems passenger's right foot pointed to the left like a stumbling drunk. The cell phone remark was a trend I noticed that some people take their cell phones when doing tandems, so they can immediatly call someone on landing and tell them something. Now with the cell phones with camera's, more photo ops and story time. R.I.P.

Lesson learned the press will never get it correct. Look at it from the some of the neighbor's point of view. They work during the week and moved out to the country for some nice piece and quite. The airport was there first but due to their schedual or a sharp real estate agent they looked at the house during the week when the DZ wasn't operating. Big surprise when the new homeowners move into their country dream home the first weekend and find out their going to start getting a buzz job all weekend starting at 10-12 in the morning. (Funny T.V. ad about guy who bought a house and later found out the big planes were T.O. over his house. Guy's sitting on porch advisng son to find a good real estate agent). Some neighbor's can come up with real creative concerns: jumpers landing on neighbor's property and "compacting the soil", jumping land on neighbors property and if the jumper gets hurt on landing the neighbor can be sued by the jumper. Jumpers driving to fast on the way to the DZ. Zoning issue's. This may not be the case at Andover but how bad can it get? How about someone taking the pilot rig out of a cessna soaking it in a flamable liquid returning it to the plane with a match. result total loss of airplane. All this has happened at different DZ's the neighbor's will never be happy but some DZ's have changed their starting hour's on weekends. Jumpers drive a little slower driveing thru residental area's on the way to the DZ. BTW the FBI investigated the torching of the cessna, polygraph tests of some neighbor's but they never could prove who did the arson. Messing with a airplane is a federal offense. Maybe consider cctv, alarm system etc to protect property. The neighbor's won't give up and this can be dragged thru the courts for 5-10 yr's. But thats 5-10 yr's of more jumping. I don't think the neighbor's hate jumpers per say they just want to enjoy their little deam houses in piece and quite. Don't worry be happy! The DZ's mentioned above are still operating one 15-20 yr's after the neigbors started bitching and the arson thing. R.I.P.

>>I continue to be amazed by the American publics obsession with stardom. It really is amazing that such numbers turn out to blindly support an alleged child molester.>> Don't judge everyone by the few folks that use poor judgement. The folks on Jerry Springer show etc I hope are in the minority. Kobe Bryant was not raped. Blaming the victim of rape is a standard defense. Lawyer 101 Mikey Jackson? first time shame on them, second time shame on you. With all his resources I would never be left alone with little boys or video every time from every angle one was in his presence. Both Kobe & Mikey have deep pockets I'm sure they will get a fair trial. If they had to rely on a public defender then the outcome of their fair trial might have a different outcome.

That sounds (no pun intended)

Not volunteering that you skydive is one thing, tell a lie to the boss is another. No disrespect but but what do you think your company/boss does to you. Want to invest your 401k in Enron, have your job exported to India. Don't want to lie? how about proper use pf the english language. Sorry I have a appointment, or other plans. I hear what your saying, just knod head. Start looking for another job. Could be a power and control issue. R.I.P.
