  1. I can think of three people that had the TSA look, cut and open their gear when they were not present. Who's to stop them? They also are supposed to let you fly with a rig. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Its smooth and is a cool visual. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 3. I saw the making of that one!...where is it? Its in Dallas right now. It was great! Yah that show is traveling. I saw it when it was in chicago. Have seen La Nouba too. I want to see the two in vegas when I ever get around to going to vegas. I'm on their mailing list so I know when they are in the midwest with a show, or anything interesting. It really is art. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Swooping is taking one last poke at the bear before escaping it's cave - davelepka
  4. Yep. I think it just emphasizes the fact that your pissed off at being alone in the first place. So much lovy dovy on TV / Ads / Stores or whatever to remind you that your single and unhappy about it. (And no its not idle bitching on my part. I'm looking, just haven't found a girl I want to be dating and wants to date me. Its almost always one or the other ) p.s. Seeking a girl that cares about me. Anyone know any? ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Swooping is taking one last poke at the bear before escaping it's cave - davelepka

  6. Demo demo demo What do you want out of a canopy? What are your intentions? I think that will help people make suggestions. Me personally I probally won't ever buy a stilletto because they have short recovery arcs and my long term progression is towards crossbraced which dives and dives ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 7. Unless I'm mistaken, currently the largest Katana that you can buy is a 120. Rumor has it that PD is working on larger sizes, but they aren't available yet. If you quote him fully he says "once it's out" I am a ways off from a 120 but a 135ish is looking nice in about a 1-1.5 years. Hopefully they have things figured out by then or something else nice comes along. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 8. I believe it. Me too, I have heard questions asked that are much more un-intelligent, right here on DZ.com even! People come up with crazy ideas all the time. Experience guides us away from them or helps us develop them into ideas that aren't quite as crazy. Impart your experience in this new jumper and he is better off. I can see the logic that he used to get to that conclusion though. Just doesn't make sense in a bigger picture. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 11. Out West I don't know if I can agree with that. I think that people are downsizing fast across the whole country. It seems like swooping is catching on more and more as a competition event and people think its cool. Its creating more exposure and more and more new people want to do it. I think thats why so many people had been pushing for WL bsrs and things. Though I don't think that this injury has much to do with WL. The jumper in question is a ~1.06 WL on a Saber2 170 which by "todays standards" people say isn't that outragous. I do want to comment on: Posted by: EBSB52 -and- That to me doesn't help the cause. All your doing is saying stuff that most people wont listen to at all. Swooping shouldn't be done "If at all"? I there are lots of people who disagree with you and it just seems like your a bit over the top. I think that the best advice was posted in the very second post of this thread. Posted by: Aggiedave I guess you are right though, some people think swooping is stupid but that doesn't make it any less fun for all the people who do it. Some people think RW/FF/CRW is stupid and/or foolish, that doesn't mean people won't or shouldn't do it. If you don't die today trying to do things your not ready for then you have lots of time tommorow to build your skills and have fun. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 12. Are there other instructors at your DZ? Do they agree with him? You will find a list of people who started at a WL similar to that who were fine and probally a list of people who started around there who got hurt. Its just how it is. Typically speaking, its better to take the advice of your local instructor over that of people on DZ.com who have no clue about you or your situation. Though it is clear that it is not wise to go from a large canopy to a much smaller one all in one large step. You have to work it down over time. Ideally skills are developed on a larger canopy before progressing to a smaller one. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. My new car!

I have been looking at an RSX as a replacement to my truck. I liked integras and the rsx is the continuance to that... Just have to justify it in the budget. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 16. Plan the Dive, Dive the Plan To me, at least, this includes everything from the dive flow to the canopy flight. Many much more experienced people agree with that sentiment too. It is good to know what your going to do before you are put in the stressfull situation of flying around under canopy. It may not seem like it is a directly stressfull situation at first but when you consider the dynamics of the situation and all the things that you really should be doing under canopy it becomes more clear. If you have a plan for where your going to fly and at what altitudes your going to fly there you have a better starting point for your mind to grasp onto. (and its one less thing to think about) This means that at 1900' you aren't trying to decide where to hold and enter the pattern and you can concentrate on other things. (Watching for other canopies, using the time under canopy to practice flat turns, flare turns, braked flight, non-braked flight, testing wind penetration, etc.) You are also then making only minor corrections to your pattern for current wind conditions and the like not trying to make up a pattern in the air. The point is you have a lot going on and having a good plan going in helps. Now maybe you weren't suggesting the contrary but it didn't seem clear to me what you were saying from your post. I agree with you in the sense that I don't think you should over think things. Just develop a clear basic plan to use as a base and make corrections to it given your situation when you find yourself hanging there under that canopy after pull time. Maybe your just offering reasuring words. My reply to first poster: If you have confidence regarding your skills it shouldn't be a problem to open, fly, and land a canopy. If you don't it can be nerve racking. I think trusting your instructors helps a lot. Talk to them, as much as you need to for you to be comfortable that you know what your doing. That to me is the first step. Once you can trust in yourself to know that you will act accordingly to the situation your in, then things become easier. (I hesitate to say easy) People can say this or that here on the internet but the starting point is good face to face instruction and confidence in that instruction. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 17. With all the confusion between saber 1 and 2 it makes me nervous to think that people are not paying as much attention as they should be regarding the gear that they are jumping. Or maybe its just a simple mistake. Either way, as stated before... I get consistantly off heading openings regardless of how I pack. I think it has a lot more to do with body position than people are willing to admit. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 18. I think on this note its time to go buy some decent cold weather under armor to prepare for the low 20s weekends. Low 40s this weekend. Should be fun jumpin. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 19. Same for me. There are LOTS of saber2s on my DZ and I haven't heard of any problems with them slamming people. I have pro-packed, Trash packed, and psycho packed. None of it seemed to make _that_ much of a difference. For me the canopy opens briskly but not hard. I pack it to open faster than slower (Average i guess), I don't like snively things. I never roll, tuck, or mess with the nose. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 22. AFF + 2 jumps: Manta 288 (around .7) 10-15: Saber 2 190 (Around 1.07) 15-20: PD 210 (Around .976) 20-300+/- some: Saber 2 170 (Around 1.2) Still flying the same canopy. Will probally downsize or change planform sometime late next year. (I plan to be around 600-700 jumps by the end of next season) ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 23. I don't disagree that she could land nicely under the canopy she has. I do question the amount of skill required to do so. I watched three different people practically pound in all summer long on old used gear that was worn out. Towards the end of the season I haven't seen any of them. One did buy a newer canopy and it helped her to learn rather than fearing every landing and not wanting to jump. My personal experience, when I was still pre-A I had been jumping a 1 year old S2-190. It got cut away by another student and was out of service for a month cause some parts got lost. That left me with the options of jumping a old F111 (Larger) main or downsizing to a S2-170. I put 5 jumps on the old gear. Got a few OK landings but for the most part the quality of my landings decreased significantly. My main instructor handed me newer gear next time I showed up and my landings improved significantly. I think there is more skill required to get a good landing out of really old and abused gear than the average new jumper has. I also don't think its a good learning tool. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. 24. I bet a lot of DZs don't have a specific JM for every load. By me its almost always the same order unless there are special jump type of stuff going on. Normally a couple heads up people just make sure everyone gets on in the generally right order. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me.
