How many miles to your dropzone?

About 30-40 min speeding. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Swooping is taking one last poke at the bear before escaping it's cave - davelepka -
My chem teacher did the basic Ka, Na, metals in water stuff. Mg burning, etc. He also demonstrated the differences in reactions based on having the right quantity of a compound available. Think: H2 in balloons compared to (2 part) H2 (1 part) O2 in balloons. Was a fun one to watch... He also made a mild contact explosive. He showed us the formula but not how to make it. Problem was most of us were smart enough to know how to make a compound from a formula using simple reactions based on the fact that they were teaching us that stuff. Yeah, I have seen people doing that for cars from other counties or states... I am sure they could cause problems but its like, don't be obnoxious, the person most likely has a much more pressing issue than me doing 5-10 over. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. About the only times I ever slow down is when a trooper is doing the running roadblock at the speed limit, forcing everybody in line as you would expect to see at a Nascar race before the green flag waves. Usually, I'm right behind him... And sometimes I'll inch ahead of him ever so slowly if there is heavy traffic and slowly pull away, then look back and the guy that was behind me still won't pass the trooper... Wimp! [Tongue] Haha yep. Our freeways our patrolled by the sheriff's department and they are overall pretty lenient. You can roll past at 5-10 over and be ok, 11 will get you though. (Something about, enough ppl speeding 11 over that its not financially worth it to stop you unless your in the 11-15, 16-24, or 25+ ranges) Anyways, they will drive in traffic sometimes at exactly the speedlimit and I refuse to drive that slow... its all about carefully passing and pulling away w/o being excessive. I wonder what they think when a person finally passes I am just going from a Dakota pickup (Scary at over 100) to an Acura RSX-S in the near future... I have to be carefull till I get a feel for speeding in it. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Agreed. That way your don't have to be an asshole and lie about some call and if its not going well you are not comitted to anything long and or expensive. I mean lets face it, its a blind date, everyone isn't meant to date everyone else and depending on how well you got set up, odds are against you that it works out. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't go. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Probally the best thing to do. The problem lies in the fact that for some reason the psyche is drawn to the emotions and "drama" of other people and their problems. I think that it has a bit to do with offsetting thinking about your own life. It isn't about avoiding your own problems or anything its just about taking a break from your own impending issues. Its more fun to think about the problems of other people than your own. It can feel good if you actually do help someone solve a problem too. The problem, ironically, is that it ends up causing you more stress in the long run even if your subconscious thinks its a good thing to do. When it all comes down to it in the end its best not to get involved. Life is much simpler, less stressful, and more fun if you don't try to fix everyone else and just concentrate on enjoying your own life. But then again, what do I know, I am no psychologist. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. It took me all of 5 minutes to explain to one of the people in my office how to secure their home network. They completed the task in less than 30 minutes on their own that night. If its open its fair game. To me at least is implied permission to connect if there is no security set up. My network has no wep key and broadcasts the SSID. I just don't care. In my opinion it is only unethical if you start trying to listen in on data or hack secured connections ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. If there is no fear, you get complacent. Complacency will kill you very quickly. Always respect the sport. I have a looming fear of fucking up and/or dying but I don't get a very scared sense or anything when its time to go. I like being in the plane, at the door, wind in my hair. It feels great. I know I can die doing this and thats what I mean by a "looming fear." That keeps me from being complacent. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. One of the guys at my DZ who was in the Top 5 for jump numbers last year is a med student. But,... he has the benifit of having gear as well as aff and tandem ratings. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Okay, I'll admit there's been some chilly days. But there's been at least a couple where it's only been freezing at altitude and in the 50s on the ground. I've taken *off* layers on a lot of days. Even if its low 30s or upper 20s on the ground you don't really notice being that cold till you land (at least for HnPs) If you goto altitude and take a full face its really not that bad. My last jump was 4:30pm CST last Saturday... Probally one of my best landings ever, boy does my canopy fly nice in calm cold dense air. Landing in the snow is fun too... its like having a really big swoop pond. p.s. I live and jump in wisconsin ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. My thought is someone scammed the pictures from the net and is trying to sell gear. It could be legitimate ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Swooping is taking one last poke at the bear before escaping it's cave - davelepka

If you follow the link that the pictures are too you can see that there is a website with the exact same captions. There are also some pictures from skydiving in 2002 in MI and some from 2001 at Kapowsin. I would guess that the person is real, but this e-bay auction might be a scam. Further investigation would be needed. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Get a coach rating. Then a Tandem rating. When I had 100 jumps I got my SL JM rating. I would work one day a weekend, and jump the other. The SL students paid for my fun jumps. I also helped pack for the students and taught the FJC. I would SL 3 students out and get a hop n pop and 15 bucks. Jumps cost 11 bucks out of the Cessna, and 15 out of the QA. So for every load I JM'ed I got that jump and another jump. For every student rig I packed I got 5 bucks.... This was years ago at a small DZ, but I made plenty of fun jumps by not spending a dime. I am only 2 evaluation jumps away from a coaches rating

I have no idea if this has been posted before in here... I wasn't quite sure how to search for it but.. I like this forum for the pure fact that so many people are at eachothers throats about issues. There are all kinds of anti-SC posts in either this forum or the bonfire... I guess that people don't see what the arguments demonstrate. I like that it shows people are able to think for themselves and have an opinion that doesn't just mimic everyone else. People are willing to take a stand on what they think is right (Regardless of the truth in the matter) Some arguments are full of faulty logic. Some arguments have one side or even both making shit up to support what they think, rough quoting, playing semantics games, whatever... I think its good. It shows people aren't ready to roll over and just accept the way everyone else is telling them to think. Taking bets on what this thread gets turned into... Guns, politics, or both? I can spell... sure I can... ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. haha.. my next vehicle is not going to be a domestic... I have had way too many problems with all the domestic cars/trucks that I have owned and know too many people that have imports that live forever even when they are beat on. That's just cause you didn't have any women on your load Sitting in the plane is one of the best parts of small cessna jumps! That term is cozy... I did 300 in my first full year as a non-student. I am looking at doing about the same for this coming year as well. I kinda want to do more than that but I don't think I am going to be able to manage it money wise. If I do any more than 300 it will be due to me finding a way to get someone else to pay for me to jump. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me.
