I've had the opposite experience. I've lost a lot of weight and have never looked better and I get significantly more attention than I used to from the opposite sex. I'm the same person, though I do project a more positive energy in general, I'm not naive enough to think that's why the attnetion has changed. As for my vote - I agree with those who say looks may get you a look, but personality will get my attention and can often make you significantly more attractive. And you should have a different response based on the fact that your female and he is male. If you have ever seen a fugly looking guy with girl who is a "9" you have seen that in action. For pretty much everyone it is a varying % of both based on long rooted genetic tendancies. It has to do with your sex plus and minus some factors based on your own individuality, experiences, and age. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I'm with wildblue. I think people say they want the truth just like they say they want lots of other things then act completely different. I wish it wasn't how it is but at least to me this seems to be how people are. People are idealistic by nature and that leads them to think they want things that in reality they don't want. Its ok though because in actuality the puzzle pieces fit together nicely because most people won't give a straight truth anyways. There tends to always be some spin. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Some fo the "cool kids" I know are playing WoW and for some stupid reason mine had been backordered for weeks. Pissed me off. Anyway, it arrived today and I've spent the greater portion of this morning installing it and downloading the current patch. Can't wait to get it up and running -- probably within the next hour or so. Learn "l33t spe4k" and gaming acronyms from Battle.net as fast as you can or you won't be able to communicate in game. I tried WoW for about 2 days. Lost interest pretty fast. But, I have all my MMO background in the Everquest worlds. Blizzard has a winner on it's hands with WoW. I don't know about it's staying power though. Maybe a year.. less.. who knows. I do know Everquest has a long history and Everquest 2 will be around long after Worlds of Warcraft has squeezed it's last nickle from the servers. I disagree about the players. It all depends on the server that you are on I guess. The one I play on I haven't seen a lick of leet speak from people. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. There are not many nice places to ski that are close to me, but there is one place that has a single decent run and crappy snow all year long. It is consistantly infested with 12yr old kids on snowboards who insist on sitting on the whole damn hill and digging the whole trail up to make jumps w/o any consideration for others around them Since they make up at least half the money that is spent there... sorry i mean thier parents do, the little hill won't do anything about it. That said I do want to learn to snowboard this year, I can ski but I think snowboarding could be more fun and more of a challenge to me personally. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Actually that annoys me some, because there are people who have a D and less jumps than me who can land in the more advanced landing area at my DZ but have less skill. Its just a mild annoyance as I plan to have a D lic soon anyways. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Is There A Canopy Performance Comparision Chart ...
Fast replied to Jumpmunki's topic in Gear and Rigging
Is that like saying... If you knew what the canopies could do you might be ready but since you don't even know that you don't have the knowledge and therfore couldn't have the skill to use a canopy that up untill now you knew nothing about and hencforth how can you have an opinion on what jump numbers mean regarding ability to fly any given canopy? Not posing this directly to anyone just wondering if that sorta restates the last point? ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Considerations with helmets: Weight (Lots of forces acting on you from exit to landing. Too heavy a helmet can cause neck problems.) Snag points (Don't want lines or really anything to snag on the helmet. Can cause injury and/or death) Range of motion (Need to be able to move your head around) -This is important because you need visibility to see other people and objects in the air and your handles. Will it stay on? Can you put an audible in it if you get on later on? I personally think there are a lot of good skydiving specific helmets and like to stick to them, but that doesn't mean its the only answer. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I think in some cases even people are quick to jump on a person about making excuses when they are talking about some fuck up. It causes them to shut up and just think them. Even if the person then says "I fucked up, wont happen again" they are most likely still making the excuses to themself. I think too often a person either is said to be making excuses when they are trying to think something out and figure out how they fucked up, or they are not trying to learn from thier mistake. Both are correctable. Just saying "Opps, wont happen again" doesn't do a whole lot of good for me. If the people who are in a position to offer constructive help on why a person fucked up just figure the offending person is making an excuse and don't really care about what they did that sucks. I agree sometimes people are trying to make excuses, but the point is that I think too often a newbie trying to figure out a fuckup is cast off as making excuses rather than given the help they need to understand exactly how and why they fucked up. Education doesn't come from a person shutting up and saying it won't happen again. It comes from analyzing the issue and trying to figure out the reasons that a chain of events occured and how to prevent it from happening again in the future. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I think it has a lot to do with how the human mind works. People want to feel like they are a part of a discussion and feel that the things they are thinking matter in that discussion. That leads people to post counter points, supporting points, and total nonsense. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. This is a question you should be asking your instructor at your DZ. They will teach you about this, wingloading, and the things that change with different canopy sizes and shapes. If you want more reading try searching for "wingloading" and/or "first rig". There is also a good article in the safety section of this site. Beyond that canopy sizing is based on square footage. There is some descrepencies between the numbers at times due to different ways of measuring but for the most part they are similar or close. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Me too. Every now and then my DZ does a class and it annoys me. There are so many people floating around who will teach others how to pack for free its stupid that people are told to goto classes for it. Most of the ones I have watched people take don't really teach anything more than just someone teaching on their own. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. The Nero FTP is very flaky. You have to try to get things a few times. You can also try changing the number in the URL. it should be something like ftp4.nero.com or something and if you change the 4 to like 1-7(?) you might get better results. 2 unsupervised pack jobs before you got your A?
Fast replied to fields's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
While I agree that the consequences of forgetting to fix it are quite bad, I think its a safe practice as long as the person doing the test takes care in making sure it is all corrected before allowing the rig to be placed anywhere someone might use it. (I.e. Left unattended.) For example, in the coaches course I took one of the instructors took a rig, and put it on with 11 problems. It made for a real good teaching tool. They then made sure everything got put back to how it is supposed to be as it was gone over with the class. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I have a question to add. With all the suggestions of going to a stilleto I want to know if there is something else between a Saber2 and a KA that people think is a good stepping stone for a planform change. I don't like the idea of going from a decent recovery arc on the saber to a shorter recovery arc on the ST and then going to a KA which basically is like a Velo. Thoughts? ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Swooping is taking one last poke at the bear before escaping it's cave - davelepka

It could be, but for the most part its hard to know till its too late. Don't worry, I don't disagree with you that some people are better than others just that its hard to know till you are put in a "lose-lose Bigger" situation and don't die. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Newbies: Do you pack your own rig?
Fast replied to flyinghonu's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've done nearly all of my main pack-jobs myself since I started using my own gear at jump #13. It took a _long_ time at first but I got much faster. I still like looking at it in a way that hits home. You have saved almost $7500 in that time... which is a lot of money. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me.
