much faster than a SL... at least in what I have seen. From video : I PCAd 3 jumpers from 230ft, and they had 10sec canopy ride. I then did a TARD, and had a 15 sec ride. Were all 4 of the canopies the same (particularly vented v. unvented) and under the same loading conditions? again i miss something... but SL1 : 205 lbs jumper Troll 265 MDV SL2 : 220lbs jumper Flik 293 Vtec SL3 : 215 lbs jumper Flik 293 Vtec TARD : 175lbs jumper Troll 265DW MDV hmmm, now this makes a bit more sense :( There was another jumper who is ~~ 130lbs on a unvented Fox 265 - I will try to see if I can get the canopy ride time on that.

The average rollover heading I've seen has been noticeably worse than the average PCA heading. In my opinion, you can control the heading of a rollover fairly well. However, 95% of the people I see doing rollovers choose not to do this, and as a result opening headings aren't very good. Tom, can you elaborate please ? Are you referring to "stick the hands out vs. hold the risers" crowds ?

Yo, I hate to be calling you on this, but how can you make such decision based on a single experience ? As far as I understand, there are LOTS of Sony miniDV cams out there - and they mostly are subjected to far more stress than the maker expects them to, yet still function (this is just an ASSUMPTION - though I am gonna guess that any canopy opening shock is quite severe on all mechanical parts). I have a TRV22 that I have taken through a few dozen slider down BASE jumps. I have also taken it down slopes on a snowboard and have landed on it. It has been submerged completely underwater this last Bridge Day (don't ask :( ). After 4 hours of taking it apart and cleaning EVRYTHING it's back to life. So to say the least, my experience is directly opposite of yours. And yet, I am absolutely not qualified to say that Sony is best in the world - cuz for all I know a could of taken all that, plus could of survived a water landing. Perhaps you need to put the pressure on, get your asshole hat, and make Sony replace or upgrade the camera for you. good luck either way, but from my personal experience as well as talking to other people ( who I noticed mostly jump Sonys ) - everybody is quite happy.

fine ... My wife would kill me if I did that. But god damn, does that look nice ... Just so I don't look lame, here's a pic during a recent 3 jumper trip.

finally.. Yes, I have had that happen a few times. It only happened on Morpheus risers ( 2 different sets ). I have jumped slider down on 5 other sets of risers, and never had that problem. From what I concluded, the white loop was too thick. I videod the riser on one jump, and it is very visible that there's tension on the line between the tail and where the fingtrap meets the white loop - but there's slack between the white loop and the toggle. For now I am just making sure I bring both toggles down enough to free the lines, but I am planning on having thinner/slicker white loops installed on my fairly new risers. For the record I have jumped the Morpheus risers slider down about 40 times, and I would say the problem was there most of the times. I have jumped BR risers slider down about 20 times - and I never remember the problem being there. About 3 jumps on god-knows-who-made risers - no problem.

sooooooooooo, do you have carpet in your garage or do you have a separate room dedicated to parachutes ?

hook the battery up last. As in - connect the bulletcam, the mic, turn the camera on, and only then connect the battery. That did it for me.

Anyone jumping Sony's HD camera yet?????
vid666 replied to basehoundsam's topic in Photography and Video
I don't think I have seen a helmet mounted miniDV cam that was not affected by hard openings. So it's not a glitch, rather than expected mechanical sideeffect -
"it's the lowest acrobatics for sure" - is what he said at the end. With handheld PC ... the landing looked ver ungraceful, and lack of helmet could of been very bad if the dude did not get lucky. Looked like some kind of rail tracks that he was tripping over. I would definately hold the video camera on such a jump - but would also definately NOT do it (the way it was done in the video) but what do I know ... Molodez chto vizhil.

pretty sure your are referring to Dan Osman http://outside.away.com/magazine/0499/9904terminal.html

I have met a jumper wit the HC1 - the one thing that I noticed is re-focusing times are bit slower than the regular mini-DV ( i mean quite NOTICABLY slower). Other than that the footage looked the same, and I never got to see it on a HD big screen. -
I am no expert, but I CAN tell the difference between a video shot with my bulletcam and a stanrd helmetmount ( like a 3 way with me and a different guy filiming a person in the middle ). With good and CONSISTANT lighting it does not seem to be terrible, but like a friend with a few hundred camer jumps said "bulletcams are quite acceptable for personal video, but might be just a step behind in using them for commercial applications where regular cams can be used". Again , i have never jumped a camera helmet in skydiving environment - so I would not be a good person to ask. .5 Lux is a little on the no as sensetive as I like it side. should work fine when the sun is out - if it gets a bit cloudy you might wish you spent extra money for .1 lux keep in mind, I am absolutely no expert on this, and I dont have many jumps - there should be people in this forum who have more data and a different opinion. hope the little that I contribute helps.

yes, that was something i have been hunting. For the record, RatShack DOES NOT HAVE any 10 AA holders. Digikey does, as do some other places. I don't want to mess with that many rechargables, especially since to save space most of us can only charge 4 at a time. I am looking for a single 12V element that can be recharged with a desktop transformer. RC shops a good place, I have just been lazy ....

I use the RF Concepts setup. About 50 BASE jumps on it, 2 skydives. I use the widest lens - 2.8mm. it works well for personal footage, but if you are trying to shoot a person, I would recommend something a little narrower. as of right now : PROs : great low light performance easy to use - takese me under 5 min to go between hand and helmet mount lightweight - CONS in variable light ( think pointing at a bright lit up grass vs a shodowy part ) you can really see the white balance kick in. when the battery starts dying - you really feel it, and there really is no warning. the quality is still lacking a bit ( i have the 480TVL version ) but acceptable to me as I have no desire to strain my neck any further at this time. hope this helps don't waste your money for a 380TVL. It's like shooting with a 1MP digital camera- sure the pictures come out fine- but can you make even a decent 4x6 ???

I will second that it seemed like there was alot bigger pause between jumpers this year the 2 previous years I attended. Trains - not much can be done, so no comment. I made 1st jump at 9.30, 2nd at 2.20 and 3rd and 3.10 - and trust me I wasn't packing for the almost 4 hours inbetween 1st and 2nd - I was bitching while standing in line ... Definately not intended as a slam - I think the job Jason and Co did is great - but I hope it can be improved to finally break the 1K jump mark. P.S. LOVED the floormat at the Holiday Inn.

yes, the 4 way was flown, with James Boole kicking some major ass and making it PAST the landing area. The landing wasn't that graceful though :)

I guess I will be there to.

7777ale. Since it's got Paypal's Buyer Protection program (and something else calling him a "SquareTrade Seller"), it doesn't matter if he still has the funds in his PayPal account does it? Blues, Dave the buyer protection program is totally independant of seller having the funds. If they deem him to be responsible, they will refund you, then put his account in the negative, and put him into collections if he doesn't pay within 30 days. I have been on both ends of the stick as far as fraud - I have had transactions where I bought things, and never got 'em ( twice ) - I got refunded fully one time, and the other time was when the protection was only for $500, and the item was $1009. - so I got 500, then the seller had another 279 pulled from his account, and I am still waiting for the balance from Aug 2004 - :( I have get different disputes filed against me probably once a month ( ~~ out of 450 or so transactions a month thats not bad ) and as long as I respond properly, it's all good. Most of the times it's people who are just plain impatient - like a few who would pay for first class shipping, not getting the item in 3 days, and then tell me that they think I scammed them, and file a report with paypal. All i have to do is give Paypal the tracer and prove it was shipped within 7 days - after that it's all good, unless they say that I shipped them an empty box ( "roduct not as described" ). anyways, it looks like the seller is just plain slow, and perhaps likes to oversell things - if he doesn't respond by tomorrow, I would say it's a proper thing to request your money back through paypal. You can also get his info through eBay and try calling him http://cgi1.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?UserInformationRequest&hc=1&hm=td.s5ddl7437

if the seller has not shipped an item within 7 days - you are fully legible to file a fraud alert http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_protections-buyer-outside see https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_pbp-info-outside sometimes shit hits the fan, but if you sent this seller emails for 5 days with no answer - perhaps there's more to the story. don't wait until he has no funds in paypal to refund you / or sends you an empty box. out of curiosity - can you post his eBay userid ? tnx !

yeah, either let us know where to paypal it to, or who to give the cash to at BD. P.S. If you think a little extra is needed, I would be more than happy to raise my original offer to $20.77 or $30 ..

$20 bucks from me as well.
