  1. Looks like the spider that would spin its web between trees around Ft. Bragg, NC. Walking through it at night is creepy, 'cause you know that thing is on you somewhere.
  2. night man, remember, don't get your knickers in a wad over American freedom.
  3. HAHA! I don't have a Hummer -- god awful ugly vehicle IMHO, but if a dude wants to drive one .. more power to him, I say!
  4. Convenient to draw the line at something you like. I guess it would be a sin to draw the line at something I may like (like driving my Hummer)
  5. Thirsty vehicles ... oh my! Never been on a thirsty airplane? Dude! Waaaay hypocritical! Back to your original sattement. It IS okay for me to drive thirsty vehicles. Any skydiver who says differently, is a hypocrite, whether he flies "one way" or not.
  6. Why would it not be? I can't drive thirty vehicles at the same time? And if I could ... why is that a crime? As said earlier ... any skydivers making this claim are hypocritical. IMHO
  7. What we have here is a failure to communicate. So your government artificially raises the price of petro (with taxes, etc) so you will drive the type of car they want you to drive. We in the US "typically" don't like the government telling us what to do .. drive, who to marry, what job we can have ... (okay, "many" of us don't) If you in the UK and other parts of the world like your government making laws that limit your freedom, so be it, but don't think you'll get many in the US to agree with you.
  8. Yeah, probably am. But my parents have passed away many years ago -- they loved me in spite of myself. My brothers think I'm "cool" "crazy" or something.
  9. Whoo hoo! You made my day, Dave! As I said, thank God for Canon digital and auto settings!
  10. Congrats. Lots of good advice here ... heed it. I suggest some working dives with coaches and other experienced folks, but don't forget to get out there and simply have fun. Be safe, but have fun. I learned at single cessna DZ, so many times there wasn't enough people to make a load of experienced people, but suprisingly I made a few RW jumps. I also took advantage of empty slots with tandems and went out solo. That is a good time to learn canopy skills and simply enjoy jumping for jumping sakes. Be safe ... have fun ... learn!
  11. Gotta admit, I'm a skyiver who flys a camera, not a photographer who flies. I wish to learn more though. If I EVER can make the time, I will take a photography class. Thank God for auto settings!
  12. I agree it is, but I'm okay with stadium jumps -- love 'em actually. I've jumped camera into a few demos before, but it was during the day-- I needed advice on camera settings. Thanks for the warning though.
  13. There are two night shot settings I can think of. Let me make sure which one you're talking about. There is a nite shot switch on the outside of the camera that gives everything a "starlite scope" feel -- Green and all, then there is a Night option accessed through the touch screen. It looks like a moon. I "assume" you are talking about the latter.
  14. Thanks Lou -- I will shoot video of my view of stadium and landing, then proceed to film other PRO rated guys landing. So, its a little dusky at 7:30 this time of the year, but stadium lights will be on. The view of the stadium from the air will be different from the view of the other jumpers landing (shot while I'm on the ground) Should the video camera be set on "night" shot or use the "moon" overide in the programming? As far as the still camera I thought about weening out and simply shoot everything on auto. How wil that look?
  15. We're making a demo jump into a football game and the school would like me to jump my video/still camera as well. Plus the DZO wants to use it for his demo promotions page. Got my PRO rating (done 20 or so demo jumps, mostly into HS FB stadiums) and been doing video (tandems/AFFs) for about the last 500 jumps, but I have little experience jumping video at night. I have a Sony HC 20 and a digital Rebel . Any suggestions for the settings of both to get good video/stills at a dusky/night setting (7:30 PM)? Thanks in advance.
  16. I didn't know Gore had a watch either. You mentioned it...... I diodn't say AlGore had a watch, I said I'm glad he DIDN'T get to have a watch ... big difference Your impression was wrong, but hey, you admit you're speaking from a lack of knowledge.
  17. I didn't know Gore or Kerry had a watch so to speak. AlGore was not much of a VP and Kerry less of a Sen (IMHO) Much of which is based on my feelings about liberal Dems in office while I was in the military. Carter was trying to reduce Special Forces by deactivating 7th Group. It was pitiful to be in the Army in 1970s expecially SF. Reagan not only kept the 7th but reactivated the 3rd and 1st SF units. Bush may not be a Reagan, but he hasn't crippled our elite military units they was so many Dem presidents have. Flame on!
  18. Actually given what has transpired on his watch, I'm very grateful ALGore wasn't in office. I wish Reagan was, but I guess W will do.
  19. What he said. SONY out performs other brands in the air by far.
  20. When I started back jumping 5 years ago I bought a VEctor container and Raven 3 reserve for $500. I then bought a Sabre 230 for $500. Mos through dropzone.com clasifieds. They served their purpose for a few months or so.
  21. I doubt if it is "cheaper" per se. Most people have a set amount of money to spend on skydiving. I bet you spend the same amount, but make more jumps. It like people in their homes. Most people live in the most expensive home they can afford. They refinince or ge a raise? They move up in the size of the home. So if you have $400 o spend for skydiving I bet you spend that. Mayber not 2-3 jumps ate $150 a piece, but in 10-20 jumps at $20 a piece, plus throw in what you spend in altimeres, helmets, rigs, reserve repacks, jumpsuits, etc. and I doubt you'll find skydivng "cheaper" as you progress.
  22. Yeah, one of my favorites for many reasons. Duvall and Cain were great! I noticed the comic art at the end and had to stay and see the credits, yep, as I expected, Berke Breathed (Bloom County & Opus fame) drew them. Reinforced from the movie... moderation is for monks, take BIG bites!
