DZ comic in comic book form
StevePhelps replied to StevePhelps's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm thinking about reviving www.dzcomic.com in an online comic book form. Would you read it? It would be weekly or bi-monthly. It would be free. If you are unaware what that would mean-- It would mean instead of a daily or weekly 3-4 panel strip it would be a page length groups of gags that have a sub plot and gag, but runs for 6+ pages. The first comic "online" book would be about the DZ gang going on a road trip to another boogie. Yeah, that clarifies it! -
So many to choose from, I'll do it by decades I've lived in. 50s To Kill A Mockingbird (its worth the rental to see a VERY young Robert Duvall) 60s The Great Escape (Steve McQueen jumping a motorcycle, need I say more?) 70s Animal House (too funny) 80s Christmas Vacation (we still watch it every year at Christmas) 90s Forrest Gump (man, that dude was every where!) 00s The Passion of the Christ (JC is da man!)

One of the determining factors would be your present experience and piloting skills, which we don't know, and numbers alone don't show. Ask YOUR AFF instructor what he recommends for you. Asking people (even experienced people) ona public forum is not the BEST way to help you determine your canopy progression.

Congrats Rev! I've been married for 31 years. I've gone through the "seven year itch" four times already. It gets easier!

I work with kids who have AS so I'm a little it aware of your situation. I believe you'd enjoy your experience, but a good question would be, what happens when you are in a situation like that? As said, some things in skydiving, while are manigable, few are 100% certainty. How are you about close quarters? PM me if you'd like.

Enjoy it while you can. My check is in the mail. I want a rematch when play on your home turf.

Forgive me, I'm 50, and my memory isn't what it used to be!

one game playoff, just like the Yanks and Mariners in 1995

Ya gotta be kidding me. Back out? Come on, I know you love the skins but do you really think they can be above .500??? The bet is on.

I have bought and sold over 250 things on Ebay with a few scammer, but nothing unreal such as yours. I learned a long time ago to NOT sell anything of great value. Too many con mane out there. My neighbor won the bid on a $10,000 dollar Harley. They guy wanted $3000 wired to him in Las Vegas. He said he was in the Army and couldn't be reached by phone or letter. Big war games going on or something like that. Well, my not too bright neighbor sent the money. The money was picked up in Italy. Live and learn.

Need good cushion/support boots for jumping
StevePhelps replied to darkwing's topic in Gear and Rigging
They may work initially when you are PLFing, but in my opinion, boots with serious tread such as jungle boots are NOT good for landing when you need to run out the flare. The tread can get caught on rough ground very easily. This is one of the reasons you see so many skydivers wear flat shoes like Vans or Converse. ... just one man's opinion. -
My bad. I thought it said HC40 ... If they are similar I use a Bonehead "D-Box"

I ministered to a "Harley wedding" once where the bride came down the aisle with Billy Idol's "White Wedding". Actually, considering all things, like everyone in biker leathers and all, it was quite fitting. Unusual by most standards, but appropiate, I guess.

Are you implying that the Democrats place less value on education than the Republican party? I find that extremely difficult to believe. Do you have any evidence to support such a view? I "think" he may be implying their (democratic) voting base is less educated, stupid, etc. All those people want to make sure they keep on getting their welfare checks for having babies. "Mr. Roosevelt gonna save us alll ..."

My 25 year old daughter did AFF about 4 years ago and loved it, but later that year she and her husband had Nikki -- what a cool grand-daughter! She knows a lot about skydivers and Harleys. Anyway, my daughter wanted to keep jumping but decided being a mom was more important. She now has another girl, Mikayla. What a cutie! She reasoned her dad took off 20+ years to raise her and her 3 brothers and has no regrets. Kids are all grown (youngest is 20) and I jump my tail off! There is time for both. Hopefully, your kids will be your top priority. Again, I waited 20+ years to get back in the sky -- from Nov 1979 until August 2001.. No regrets!

Can you make a living as a tandem cameraman ?
StevePhelps replied to lintern's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I usually make about $400-$500 a weekend at our small Cessna DZ from April through October just doing video. We had no paying videos last January and a handful in Dec and Feb. Then to top it all off, our Cessna has been down 3 out of the last 4 weekends with a prop strike. It may be down this weekend as well, although we're hopeful it will be up. That means no (or very little) skydiving income in a month (September) that is usually very good in OK. My suggestion is do as I did 31+ years ago. Marry a woman who has a job! A flexible second job such as web design, illustrating, etc., has helped as well. -
Wiping coffee spew off my screen. Or as the girls said in the 80s ... Gag me with a spoon!

I wear Gatorz (sunglasses) when I jump video. I wear clear goggles when I jump into a demo or do a coach jump.

We'll see. How 'bout them Cowboys?

In case you missed the gang, their archives are up. http://www.dzcomic.com/ More 'toons to be added every now and then.

Or "Big Boys' when referring to licensed jumpers. I had a student look at a 105# skydiver and exclaim, "She's a big boy?", when told only "big boys" will go on this load. Obviously she had no doubt I qualified as a "big boy"

$25,000+, 6 years, more time then I can count...
StevePhelps replied to PhreeZone's topic in The Bonfire
Congrats on the thousand. I hope to have mine before 2006 or at least before Jan 26th, my 51st b-day. -
Me too, but what I like about is I never heard anything about it during the ball game. Old Weis is pretty cool in my book.
