  1. I just did one similar to Arville's Munoz tandem video. Looks real good, but it is only 5 minutes long and it took 45 minutes to render using Premiere. Too short? I'm not sure -- it's got a little prejump, complete FF, landing, slow motion of complete FF and stills to boot. What else should it have? Too time consuming? I think so -- any suggestions?
  2. I did a quick search and not much luck. Is there any place out there that has "typical" tandem videos to view. I mean the entire video you'd hand to a customer? I'm bored with my promo - plane antics - jump-landing - slow mo -raw footage - still - credits. Maybe its too long too (12 minutes) I need some inspiration! FOLLOW UP QUESTION: How long should it be? I saw a video Arville did in Memorial DVD for Pedro Munoz. Now that was too cool, but I don't know how they edited it. Was it on a computer? Is that what Raeford does for all tandem customers?
  3. 've been reading forums and it seems the ILO brand is infamous for being overly sensitive in the copyright protection area, at times preventing you from copying your own DVD. That's my case. I may have to invest in a DVD burner for my computer.
  4. No, I use Sony too, but it is a + recorder. Could that be it??
  5. Okay, before you copy right police get me, I'm talking about MY OWN DVD I made (the DZ promo). The brand of DVD recorder is ILO. When I try to record my promo onto a blank disk it shuts down after 20 seconds. (says protected ... or something like that) My promos when finalized, were not protected. I've tried DVD +R and DVD +RW disks. Same out come. I'm not sure what to do, but keep putting the promo on from the camera itself on every DVD. What a pain in the ... that is! Any suggestions?
  6. No, money IS an object. I have my eye on some camcorders on ebay right now. The "back-up" idea is good too in case a camcorder breaks at the DZ. Thanks all
  7. We're trying to set up a permanent editing station at the DZ. Currently the vidiots use their own camcorders when they edit their tapes. We'd like to switch to a full time editor, so, while the vidiot is up on a load, the editor can make the tape from the previous jump. What do you suggest the editor use to play the tape? Buy another camcorder, or is there another solution?
  8. Word. (Translation: "I concur.") What they said.
  9. Currency is always good, and if you can pul it off, you certainly won't be the worse for it. However, if you blow ALL your money doing this and can't jump for a long time (4-6 weeks) due to lack of funds, I'd say you'd be better off spacing your training out over a month, rather than a week. JMHO
  10. Maybe they figured out at 200 jumps you think you know it all and are a master jumper. At 500 jumps you realize you don't know jack and are just beginning to learn.
  11. Wayne: You know me (I drew the monkey for ya) -- I make a living out of skydiving (videos) but I have to supplement it with teaching at a 6/7 center, web design, cartooning, pastoring a small church and being married to a legal secretary. I believe the latter is the key to my ability to have so many small paying jobs and still live in a nice new 4 BR brick home, own a couple of vehicles and a Harley.
  12. I guess I'll start putting them up on Monday and maybe an occasional Wednesday. Thanks for everyone's input.
  13. THAT is totally cool -- thanks for the kuddos!
  14. It looks like Monday is taking a commanding lead
  15. Wow! Four replies before it went sexual --- skydivers! Looks like Wednesday is winning so far.
  16. If during the busy skydiving season, www.DZcomic.com can only run ONE day -- what day do you think it should be? I hope to have DZcomic running multiple days in the fall when things slow down at the DZ.
  17. Sad to say I'm using the standard 18-55 lens with the Rebel. I've inched out farther and now I can get the tandem's face in frame before exit. Thanks for all the advice.
  18. My FTN does NOT move. I wait until almost door before I latch the buckle as it is plenty tight with simply the racthet.
  19. I have a degree in theology and I don't give it the mystical power so many religous people do -- I'm just aware of it's "evil" meaning to so many people here in the bible belt. I never thought about the # until after. It was funny -- hee hee -- yeah, right.
  20. Whew! Made it past the evil jump# 666 this weekend. On jump #666 (tandem video) I made a late spin (about 1000 feet) and got the toggle caught in my camera wing attachment. That put me into a spiral obviously. I let go of everything and used both hands to disengage the SNAFU. I got it done in time ... whew! Glad that one is over!
  21. I've done the rear float and that looks good on a couple of TMs, but my main one dives toward the wing tip and that leaves me looking at butts instead of faces. I'll try to see if I can tell when the student leaves w/o looking at the TM
