I use to feel the same way, but now I often find myself looking up at the clouds and just wishing that I could fly my body right thru them. It drives me crazy when it is monday and I can't jump until saturday. I also find myself thinking on the ride to altitude about what the hell I am doing. I think about how this is totally crazy and how completely out of the ordinary this sport is. I think of how I JUMP out of a moving plane, 13000' up in the open sky, fall for a minute at speeds up to 300 mph, and then pull a device that opens a 135 sq ft piece of material that gets me to the ground. If you really think about it, it is the most amazing thing. This sport is incredible. Clint D-24352

Right on. I got into this sport because it was a family thing. I stayed in it and will be in it forever because it gives me so much thrill and happiness. Everyone in my family except my mom skydives and I have been lucky in having that support as well as experienced people to teach me early on. I could not imagine life without skydiving. What in the hell would I do every weekend if it wasn't for jumping? People that don't skydive just seem to be really really boring. Skydiving to me is the biggest form of therapy. I could have every problem in the world, but when I am at the DZ and jumping I am free from everything. The problems go away and I get to enjoy absolute freedom. This sport is the greatest!!!!! I was just wondering if a lot of people feel the way I do about this sport. There is not a day that goes by where I do not think about how truly badass skydiving is. I have been around skydiving for 10 or so years and in the sport going on 5. I often find myself in awe when I think about how amazing this sport is. It is incredible to me the things we can do and I was just wondering if you all feel this way also. Clint D-24352

I was jumping at SD El Paso today and last weekend filming tandems. The place is pretty cool for a Cessna DZ and everyone is really laid back. As someone has already mentioned, there has been some discussion about SD El Paso (in Santa Teresa, NM) quite a bit in the Places TO Jump Forum. Run a search and you could get most of the information. If you want a turbine DZ, the closest would probably be Eloy at 5.5 hours away. It is way closer than San Marcos. If you want to call Bob the DZO, his number is 505-589-4506. You can also PM me with any questions, directions, or anything else. The DZ is only open on weekends, but Bob does mechanic work out there all week. How long will you be at Ft. Bliss? I will be back at SD El Paso in a month and a half for summer. Hope to see you there. Clint D-24352

I can't remember from the 2000 convention and I am planning on going to the next one. Anyone know? Thanks. Clint D-24352 -
Mr. Mullins, I will go with what you said over everybody else. If anyone knows it would be you. Thanks for the reply. Also, could you tell Joel that everyone from Skydive El Paso says hi. It was fun to jump with him when he was here. Clint D-24352

Carrying Rig on Commercial Flights
Jethers203 replied to Jethers203's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah, I keep a pull up cord in my rig. I also have the TSA guidelines printed out, but it was smart of you to mention that. The TSA employees are (supposedly) trained to deal with rigs, but if anyone gives me shit, I will be kind but firm like what was said above. Thanks again. Clint D-24352 -
Wow, thanks for the info. I have questioned some things my prof has said, but this one peaked my interest since I am working on getting my Pilots License. It seems there should be a safety thing that would prevent that from happening. Kind of like the safety thing on my truck that prevents me from turning the key when the engine is on. Clint D-24352

Carrying Rig on Commercial Flights
Jethers203 replied to Jethers203's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah, I already saw that thread and picture. Thanks though. Also, for sure I am going to take it as a carry on. The point of this thread was to see what recent problems people have experienced with takling them on as carry ons. I really didn't want to carry my gear bag, but I cleaned it out and all I will have is the rig in it. Thanks for all the help so far. Keep the advice coming. Clint D-24352 -
Can the landing gear be put up while the plane is still on the ground? My professor said this happened with a 737 due to miss communication between the pilot and co-pilot. I don't have my private pilot's license yet, but when I heard this I thought it was bull shit. Can this same thing happen to a smaller plane as well? Just curious. Clint D-24352

Carrying Rig on Commercial Flights
Jethers203 replied to Jethers203's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I haven't flown with my rig in quite a while and I was wondering what new problems I could expect. I read all the stuff at USPA's website, but I wanted to get some input from people with recent experience. Are gear bags a must? Other then if TSA has to go through the reserve and I need to put it into a gear bag, do I really need one. I was going to keep the bag in my car just in case I need it. The thing is just too damn big. All info would be helpful. Clint D-24352 PS: I know not to carry the hook knife with the rig. -
2,500-jumps+, x-brace, & 16-yrs old
Jethers203 replied to rmsmith's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What is wrong with that? I had my B-License when I was 16. I started jumping when I was 15 and I am 20 now. It is not what you know, it is who you know. Clint D-24352 -
Yeah, I know how you feel. I posted my first crash in the incidents forum. I smacked the asphalt really really hard and was lucky I wasn't more seriously hurt. I honestly believe that everyone who is in this sport has a bad crash atleast once in their career of jumping. I learned a lot from my crash and I am sure you have as well. It takes guts to post a screw up on here and I hope no one gives you the same sort of shit they gave me. Stay safe. Clint D-24352

Study a lot more and have a way better GPA. It's not like I live on DZ.com, but it sure is a good way to pass the time during th week. Clint D-24352

The only first I had this weekend was that I was the first person to ever hit the DZ golf cart on landing. I had a pretty good swoop and couldn't stop on the muddy ass landing area so I ran it out and went right into the golf cart. Luckily, neither myself or the golf cart got injured and there is some spectacular video that I got from my helmet cam. The footage was mainly of Aggiedave smoking a cig in the cart as I hit it, but the laughs are great. So, I owe beer for that one. Clint D-24352

He couldn't have done it without me. I was his first passenger ever. Yes, I said first!!! As a matter of fact, I did my first 3 tandems strapped to Peir. Yeah, said it again. The most memorable was the last one because we hit 187mph. Not to shabby. Well, congrats Peir and thanks for keeping me safe in the sky. Clint D-24352

Tim, If it happened again, would you spend more time freeing the lines that were under your arms? Those lines could have really messed things up in my opinion. Clint D-24352

Spec "fuckin" tacular. You guys did awesome!!! I must ask though. Was there anything that could have been done better? Just so me and everyone else could learn. I am not criticizing anything, just would like to know from the people first hand. Thanks. Clint D-24352

Jethers203 replied to Jethers203's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
No, I didn't get my rating, I was just a passenger for someone who is trying to get their rating. Anyway, has Mike done any students yet? Is there anyone out there videoing? I told him I would video his tandems over spring break and summer. Let me know. Lates. Clint D-24352 -

Jethers203 replied to Jethers203's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah, I wanted to do that on the first one, but the TM wasn't cool with it. He was pretty nervous about thw whole thing. But, maybe today. Clint D-24352 -
I did my first Tandem today. . . . . BEER!!!
Jethers203 replied to Jethers203's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah, so I did my first Tandem today and I have 570 jumps!!! Interesting experience. I think it made it more fun that it was my first tandem and it was my tandem instructors first time taking a passenger. I still don't know who was more nervous. It is a real trip to not be in control after being in control for the past 5 years. I ended up doing two in a row and will be out tomorrow helping the guys get some more jumps in with a licensed jumper. I am shooting to have a total of 5 by tomorrow night. Man, FREE jumps are the SHIT!!!!! Clint D-24352 -
Hahahaha!!!!! That is great. I was actually there last night and flew around for 8-9 minutes. I thought it was a blast. I have flown in wind tunnels before, and this one was a lot better. Way more powerful then the ones I have been in. The guys that work there are great too. I would definitely recomend people going and hitting it up. Clint D-24352

Congrats!!! I go to Sam Houston, but I am in Business. The CJ department there is awesome though. Anyway, good to know that there will be atleast 2 skydivers there now. Clint D-24352

It really depends on the color of the smoke. I jump white skydiver smoke on DEMOs and it does not stain anything. Now, the Red smoke is a different story. Speeking of smoke: Dave, So when is there going to be another big weekend at SD Aggieland? I have some smoke that is geting kind of old and I want to see if it still works. Clint D-24352
