  1. ....and the Lord said unto the shepards... "F*&% OFF...THIS IS COW COUNTRY!" ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  2. Steve Personally I could use the competition. But if you are going to be a fisher of men, may I recommend the use of bait. JC did not run around claiming to be the son of God for a reason...it kept him in the mix long enough to spread to WORD so to speak. The best teachers feed their students scraps of info and wait for their curiosity to bring them back begging for more. I think you could be much more effective being subtle rather than whipping out literature as people walk by. You don't want to scare them away. Well good luck with it. ...mike( the resistor) ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  3. Cajones Thanks....I'll take care of that as soon as I can control my laughter. mike .... ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  4. Ok all you swoopers....am I doing it right? ...mike ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  5. This is the reason I would like the DZO's to make and enforce their own rules. Every DZ and jumper is unique and so is every situation. They would ( and do now) have the option to decide who does what. USPA would not have to make new BSR's if the DZO's could at least curb the problem. Like Hook said the FAA won't get involved (until we are knee deep in our own dead). It is not the fatality rate of today that concerns me...it's the next ten years! ...mike ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  6. Wow...I would have killed myself on that...or at least broke something! ...mike ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  7. Hook Can I ask what canopies you jumped from 250-500 jumps, wingload etc? ...mike
  8. When I was 14 I thought it was a crime to make me wait till I was 16 to drive. I was as wild as they come behind the wheel for 2 years...no one got hurt or died. It was not all luck, I had developed some skill driving at that speed ( in the dark w/headlights off, etc). When I look back I think I was mature enough to drive at about 24yrs of age. I'm sure some people were mature enough before 16yrs, but a nice easy to follow standard had been set...16 to drive. YES...It scares me to see 16yrs old behind the wheel of a 5.0L HO. Some may be ok...but on average! (just 'cause you can doesn't mean you should) That is what I first notice in some new jumpers that concerns me the most....lack of patients. ...mike ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  9. Are you sure...could they not have caused a canopy collision...killing someone else? What about those panic turns...could it not send them through the packing area (outdoor type) taking someone out with a 40mph knee? Anyone who can reach the gas peddle can operate a car. But 20yrs of driving experience may come in handy when driving in less than ideal conditions. Thats is why there is a min age req...it was the best way to judge a starting point. A good starting point for high performance canopy use would about 500 jumps. What's the rush? ...mike ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  10. From what I've read a guy with less than 40 jumps can land a Stiletto 107(heavy)...this comes as no surprise, cause it's not that hard to do! But is it a good idea? A large number of deadly hooks were performed by some of the best canopy pilots....just an off day! ...mike ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  11. I think it is a good idea...we did not have this concern before small/fast canopies so wing loading restrictions will have a positive effect! I'm not a betting man...but it's a sure thing! And just maybe wile they wait to get 500 jumps...some will get smart! This stuff will not effect me directly with 500+ jumps @ 0.9:1 wing loading and non USPA, but reading about a 25 year old kid hooking it to death bugs me! ...mike ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  12. Also you (Bill) have seen the picture so many times that your brain will fill in the blanks(guess work). Thats why it's called perception. ...mike
  13. My reserve turned 24 this month. It's older than most of my students now! ...mike ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  14. And backwards...both intentionally and unintentionally...and landed safely...but it's not recommended. ...mike ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  15. Nope...supply and demand...the more they make, the cheaper it gets. But used ones could be available cheap...If you get what I mean. It does not really hurt the canopy when they get hooked it into the ground! ... ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.

  17. Duayne Going head down this summer? I jumped with Dave Brandle on monday and he's pretty good! Of course, I was on my belly "most of the time"! P.S. I heard Freefly handles are just...Pull Outs for girls! ...mike ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  18. Me too! Even though people with your experience pound in. I think the idea is to get jumpers through their first 500-1000 jumps alive. After that I really don't like regulation on canopy wing loading. I think it will get a lot worse before it gets better! ...mike ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  19. Dave You gadda admit...few things are as exciting as naked CRW in micro lines. ...mike ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  20. That is why you must start the turn low...so the fire and smoke is still rolling off when you blister through the blades!!! ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  21. Ron I would like to see the DZO's enforcing there own regulations before it comes to FAA regulations. On my DZ you can go buy what ever you want somewhere else but the DZO is not going to let you jump it here unless it is ok with him. The blood would spill on his DZ. ...mike ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  22. FreakyD I'm looking for Wrath of God 44, I heard the 42's were a bit skitish in funky winds. ...mike ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  23. Lisa This problem/concern of small canopies and poor judgment seems to get worse every day. I have been looking for a soft copy "on-line" of an article entitled..." The Unnecessary Risk Category, by George Pilkington"...I know it's outdated but I liked the way it was written. As instructors and couches I think we have to do our best to educate new people in the sport even when they fight us tooth and nail. P.S. When do you think they will release a canopy with the name WRATH of GOD! ...mike@0.9:1 ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  24. Pete Good luck mate. ...mike P.S. What is the MSW on your reserve. 155sq'? ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
  25. Great post...I like to see how they do things, in regards to student training, in other countries. Cool pics too! ...mike
