I find I am just the opposite, I am raising my 3 boys 7,9,and 14 to think for themselves. I am not going to insist that they jump from airplanes or run from scary religions. ....mike -

1 C-182, 2000' rolled grass runway( your choice of runway 27c or 09c) ,outdoor packing and fire pit. We call it home... P.S. It's the softest DZ in the world ...so it's great for learning hook turns! ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.

I was married to a woman(4 jumps but not a skydiver) who never complimented me in any way for ten years...even though I would compliment her every day!( and I did mean it) I wish my story had a happy ending but I'm a single parent of 3 boys now. It's not a guy thing!!!! I don't think you need a tank top to get a compliment. I'm sure you ROCK 100%( BASE too...impressive). 1.tell him to smarten up. 2. I bet it does...lol! Steve first I need to confess...I got an really foul mouth when I take up first jump students. ( It does not seem to bother them and sometime they start it! especially the girls) I just try to pump them up to get them out the door and add to all the excitement. Now I have dispatched, strippers, gays, , people of all color, and age. I don't care what they do in their life...when it comes down to it ,gravity does not care either. So last year a Baptist minister and his two kids ( of age of course) take the FJ course. I'm sure that the DZO mentioned that Wade was a minister but I become a machine up there and operate the same way every time. So after I dispatch them on their first jumps, the pilot takes me aside and says" man...I can't believe you were screaming the f-word in a ministers ear!" Wade must be a tolerant man cause he brings kids right back out the next weekend for jumps 2 and 3. I hope to see them again this year cause they seem to be having a blast! I told him on one jump run he may want to work the skydiving thing into his sermon....he said..." I already did last week". He is a nice guy...no mater how you slice it. ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists. -
I always try to log my jumps and never plan to stop. It's great to look back in my log books and remember the details of those fun jumps with those fun people. It can bring a smile to your face in a flash! ...mike

OK...how 'bout the other way around. I guy I jump with(2000 jumps) goes to Eloy every winter ,and last year, Eloy for a few weeks and tunnel camp in FLA. This year just the tunnel camp and lots of extra time ($7000 worth). Well I saw his video and WOW! He is hot!!! So wile in FLA before coming home he decides to drop in to some DZ's and have a little fun. He tells them he has 90 jumps and they make him do a check out jump with a coach/instr. So up they go to do a simon says jump. I guess it was pretty funny...as the coach/instr would attempt to move in any direction...my buddy ( who shall remain nameless) does not permit any separation. In the end the coach/instructor attempts to track at full speed to get away...but to no avail...their still 2 feet apart! I thought it was funny but not everyone did! One DZ he visited wanted him to do level 8 AFF ( and pay of course) witch he turned down. ....mike ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.

Sounds to me like you ARE a skydiver! It's like riding a bike...once you get the idea...you won't be able to understand why you couldn't do it before. Yup! Maybe your instructor will let you try a different exit for stability or just something new for fun! Ah...they will be along in a bit. have fun...mike ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.

Viking Cool pics...those are real toggles too! The gear looks to be in good shape. Can't wait to see pics of it in the air! Talking to a dead man, part II and a half...

Ok in 1997 I took my instructor "A" course(like USPA BIC). I am a careful canopy pilot jumping a Cruiselite 220 @ 0.8:1 wingloading. I have never attempted a fast landing of any kind. I don't feel the need to. I am doing good on the course and I know I will pass with flying colors( oh boy!) Jump#127...I take up a load (IAD) of my fellow candidates and the course conductor. The winds are blowing like f*&king crazy and the A/C is up and down 6' at a time. My spot really sucks (like way too short) and my students( not real ones of course) are blowing off the DZ. I am screwing up bad, 2 off the DZ and the course conductor will be next out the door...wile I concentrate on me screwing the up spot some more, the course conductor has the pilot lower each jump run until I put out the course conductor out at 2500'. Ok...I went from being a super instructor( in my head) to a total screw up in one load. Out the door I go after them...I decide I could save some face by landing off with one of my lost students. There he is in a back yard...do I sink it in...oh God no...I hook it strait down in the back yard(alt=75' aprox)...too high and over shooting right at the bathroom window ( I could see inside...that is how close I was), hard right 90 plus deg going to overshoot into the trees(alt 20' aprox)...hard left at the ground, witch I had noticed sloped down a hill into the woods...aim at slope...contact ground at 25mph plus at almost 0 deg angle sliding down hill dragging canopy behind me until my feet reach the woods...stop! Now I get up and dust off some grass pick up my gear and walk away without a scratch. If I was jumping a fast canopy maybe I would not have done this, but my head was not in the right place at the time so maybe I would have killed myself...who knows. Money is what stopped me from having a canopy fast enough to die on. Not all new jumpers are poor enough to save themselves. I hate the idea of regulation ( cause someone might make me jump with an AAD or take my round reserve away) but I think I see a trend in canopy selection that is less than safe enough. ...mike -

Hook Then would you say, I am correct in assuming, that how hard( not how fast total time) a parachute opens is directly related to how fast the slider comes down.( deployment stage #3 ) 1. slider off = damage 2. slider down fast= hard 3. slider smooth=normal 4. slider slow=soft 5. slider hung up=mal ...mike -

mikeat10500 replied to Magistr8's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hook I know we have talked about this before but do not remember it coming to a conclusion. Someone asked about hard openings and line dump came up. I would like someone to clear this up for me so I am not spreading mis-information.( riggers to 1st students feel free to jump in). I can not see a direct relationship between line dump and hard openings. I had a Cruiselite with 550 braided lines in tube stows. I now jump a PD with microlines. I did not change my big tube stows so my microlines are all but falling out of the stows. ( Please do not take this as a recommended method) My main never, never, never opens fast/hard. Keep in mind the locking stows are tight enough to stop "canopy out" before line stretch. I can however see line dump causing a line over or bag lock if loose lines wrap around bag or locking stows etc. People with a lot more experience than me, tell me "line dump can and does cause hard openings". HOW? What am I missing? ...mike -

Magistr8 First off take instruction from your instructors. They know what you are doing and some others may not. If you were taught to count and chk your canopy after the count it would be at least 4-6 seconds. With 8 jumps I doubt you are packing your own main and should not have and a bag lock in the first place...but it did not stay locked....thats called a slow deployment. lots of things could cause this...baffed Pilot Chutes being one of them. "For those confused by the terminology PAPER TOSS is a training rip cord pull for toss outs. News paper in PC pouch ( normally belly mount) is hand deployed by student wile JM performs IAD." NO...loose line stows cause bag locks. So were you doing a delay 3-5 sec and opened you own main or an IAD? ....mike P.S. Have lots and lots of fun!!!! ----------------------------------- Mike Wheadon B-3715,HEMP#1 Higher Expectations for Modern Parachutists.
