  1. But warmer temps (over land) are causing snow accumulation on Mont Blanc. Why? Because global warming causes "sticky snow". That's another one for Chuck Norris to count. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  2. Where does the evaporated moisture from the soil go? Are you saying the all the extra moisture in the air providing the feedback mechanism needed for the alarmists is only going to produce rain over the oceans? It sounds like you are saying deserts do not get any rain because the soil is dry. Most people believe the deserts are dry because they don't get any rain. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  3. I believe the list of things attributed to global warming is so long that even Chuck Norris would have problems counting them all ( and Chuck has counted to infinity..... twice). To answer your question properly though, I do not believe warmer temperatures always cause less precipitation. I would have thought it would be the other way round. Warmer temperatures cause more evaporation, which causes more clouds, which causes more precipitation. However, the increase in cloud cover could cause more cooling, or warming depending on where the clouds are. Also, where the clouds release their moisture decides whether Global warming is going to cause "massive" droughts, or "massive" flooding. You see with Global Warming, we will only have extremes. 4. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jhtml?xml=/earth/2007/10/15/eamont115.xml Global warming makes Mont Blanc grow Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in France and western Europe, has grown more than two metres in two years - ironically as a result of global warming, experts have found. The Alps' tallest peak was measured at 4,810.90 metres (15,784 feet) last month, surveyors from France's Haute-Savoie region announced. Volume of ice on Mont Blanc has doubled since 2005 Generations of French schoolchildren were taught the famous peak was 4,807 metres tall, but it has been growing since 2003 and at a faster rate in recent months. "The height as well as the volume of Mont Blanc has increased considerably, because the snow has massed on the summit over the last two years," said Philippe Borel, one of the survey team, at a meeting in the nearby resort of Chamonix. The volume of ice on Mont Blanc's slopes has almost doubled since 2005 to reach 24,100 cubic metres this year, while snow has built up due to greater frequency of winds and higher temperatures in the summer, believed to be cause by global warming. "This brings sticky snow above 4,000 metres up which grips onto the mountainside," said Yan Giezendanner, a meteorologist. The phenomenon appears to go against the trend of sparser snow and ice on other European peaks that is a great concern to ski resorts and ski lovers. Mr Giezendanner said such "growth" in mountains was specific to higher Alpine peaks. "Glaciers at high altitude seem to be growing, while those situated at mid or low altitude are melting, shrinking and threatened with extinction," he said. ----------------------------------------------------------- Can't wait for the next one, like "Sea level falls due to global warming" or "Camels freezing to death, due to global warming." 5. I though the U.S. was the only major country. All others being minor. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  6. I am suprised no one has mention this yet.... Get some good medical insurance. The risk of injuring yourself increases dramatically when you start to do high speed landings. Browse through the Hot swoop x-ray thread to get an idea of what medical costs could be heading you way. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  7. errr, his point is .....read the title of the thread Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  8. I am thinking San Diego weather in Seattle will be pretty KEWL Billvon said a bit warmer, not "a lot warmer". Don't believe Al Gore, there will be no San Diego weather in Seattle any time soon. Sorry to dissapoint you Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  9. Is there such a thing as a non-dangerous terrorist? Sales. Are you a terrorist? Terrorist. Yes Sales. are you dangerous? Terrorist. No Sales. OK here your gun
  10. Here another Hocky Stick for you. Just use the bits that suit your agenda. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  11. Hmmm. Isn't that what the Bush Admin said about invading Iraq? That is what they said, but they actually HAD the analysis and they ignored the parts they did not like. Isn't that what Hansen did with the data he used to produce the infamous hockey stick. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  12. There is a consensus that you both totally missed it. The science is settled so move along now, no need to discuss anything about the issue anymore. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  13. Just yesterday (30th Sep) Peter did a helicopter on his velocity 90 loaded at around 2 to 1. It was amazing to watch as the canopy started to spin more or less on the spot. He was making about 3 spins a second. Martin has some video footage of it. He posts on here as Springbock. Peter said he was not in a hurry to repeat the jump Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  14. So it's three years later after my original post and we have looked at the merits of a standing (AFF) style exit for SL students. It appears that this style of exit is much more likely to produce what we call a "flamingo" (legs getting tangled in the suspension lines). If the student makes a poor exit and goes head low, when the canopy deploys it tends to flip the student bringing their legs up into the lines. In a sitting exit the students are much less likely to go head low. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  15. I've been in a Porter with 11 jumpers on more than one occassion. Very cosy Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  16. Well get one with a trap door like in the film Dropzone" Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  17. Why? You can fit two 4-way teams (including video) into a Porter. There are various ways of cramming the 10 jumpers in the aircraft. The best solution I have seen is in the D-FROH (Breitscheid Porter). It climbs to 13,000 ft in about 14 mins. It has a nice big door that it unfortunatley on the right of the aircraft. This could make it tricky for Teams that have only trained out of a left side door. It needs a runway that is about 16 inches long Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  18. Fact is CO2 has increased by 50%, man is most likely responsible for this. Fast enough for what? The effect of rising CO2 concentrations dimish as they go up. That is to say that a rise from 100 ppm to 200 ppm has far more effect than 300ppm to 400 ppm. But you know that. Your wording sounds alarmist though. Depends how you cherry pick, adjust and present the data. Do you think that the planet would be cooling without the CO2 increases? Or do you think the temperature would be constant? I bet you would not agree to the temperature would be rising anyway. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  19. Sorry but I just don't buy your constant comparisons of AGW and smoking. There is no down-side to giving up smoking. There are certainly down-sides to giving up cheap and abundant energy to which we currently have no reasonable alternative. Just wait until the oil runs out and watch the chaos ensue. I do agree with you that the Junkman has put up a challenge that is impossible to meet. But that is what his aim is, to show that the alarmists are just spouting hot air. You yourself posted about the North West Passage being open, but would you post that the there is a record amount of ice cover in the southern hemisphere this year? No, because it does not fit your agenda. There is no solid evidence as to how much man has contributed to the current warming of the planet, just guesses. From your source: "Correction: we had previously reported that there had been a new SH historic maximum ice area. Unfortunately, we found a small glitch in our software. The timeseries have now been corrected and are showing that we are very close to, but not yet, a new historic maximum sea ice area for the Southern Hemisphere." And it should be noted that this near "record" is only since 1979. And it should be noted that the record minimum in the artic is also since 1979. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

  22. So there is a link between SST and hurricane intensity, but obviously based on predictions for the 2006 hurricane season, these are not well understood. The models may well suggest that soley unforced variability would not produce such SST increases. There again the models suggested an active 2006 and 2007 hurricane season. How much of this 0.32 - 0.67 increase over 100 years is not due to unforced variability? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  23. The links contain how some journalists choose to interpret a study in the PNAS. Typical alarmist reporting. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
