  1. And here is what they removed. Still, I feel a little less robotic now Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  2. Peter said after initiating the spin, he let go of the risers and it just keep spinning on it's own Maybe we can persuade him to do it again so we can get better video I am certainly not going to try that shit Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  3. Quite correct. All I am saying is that the Velo sinks. It is not the ideal canopy for long spots. Generally I have wind to work with, therefore deeps brakes is the answer. The last time I missed the DZ was on a no wind day. There again the Tandem did not have much room to spare either. Really the Velocity is not designed with Tandems videos in mind. But what the hell, if I can get away with it I've got the best of both worlds.
  4. Depends.... if he is lucky he might live to tell the tale. This is the one post from mjosparky that almost made me cry today. It's not new, but what is in this sport? When will we learn? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  5. But you are one of those that takes an extremist position. Granted, not always, when on the defensive you mention things such as "moderate warming" or "slight increases in temperature". Then again in other posts you say things like "But do you want to take the risk that Greenland won't melt within 100 years?" or "Why make things worse than they are?" I will stick with your "moderate warming" and "Slight increase in temperature" and say mans influence has only a moderate and slight influence on what is already a moderate and slight increase in global temperatures since .... well cherry pick your time scale. 6. What is the difference between skydiving and a blowjob from a 70 year old? No difference, both are cool,.... just don't look down. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  7. I do lot's of camera jumps with my Velo. Plus points for the canopys nice and soft openings. Whether it opens on heading is not so important as the 4 way team is below me tracking away. Getting back from long spots after doing Tandem video only really works if you have wind to work with. Then the solution is deep brakes. Using rears does not seem to help me at all. There again what do I know, I only have a little over 1000 jumps on a Velo 90. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  8. Percentage wise we are already doing that! With the increase in CO2 in our atmosphere we have less N2 per cubic meter of air. But I think both you and Bill know what the OP meant to say. It is no different than all the headlines that scream we need to reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  9. Yes folks, you can download it from here Really Scary Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  10. Record corn crop!!! How long will that last? With AGW, the droughts, the floods, the storms or whatever will soon put and end to that. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  11. I know I did. With a Velo there is no spiralling down to lose altitude. To lose altitude you just fly straight. I found the only way you could play with turns "this way and that" was to do a hop n pop form 14000 ft or do all the turns with rear risers. Toggle turns lose much more height bthan rear riser turns. Most of the swoop jumps I have done with a velo from 5000 ft (Competition and practice) involved flying for the most part in deep brakes. Jumping a light wingload of 2.0 I was always last in the group and had to wait until the others had landed. A few weeks ago I did a hop n pop from 14000ft and did not do anything dramtic, just flew around watching a beautiful sunset. I still ended up having to fly in brakes to let the Tandems land before me so I would have a clear landing area for my 270. I only jump the Velo for the sweet landings and ....... believe it or not, the nice soft openings. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  12. Yes? Then you'll like this attached cartoon Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  13. There Bill, I only needed to change 2 words in your post and we are in full agreement
  14. LOL i Second that.. Pack neat.. dont look up.. try and be relaxed in the harness..oh yeah and prey every night to the opening gods and sacrifice yr best friends dog ...... Pack neat The three people who jump Velo's at my DZ including me have a saying. "Stuff it in the d-bag, it'll sort itself out on opening" Really, I only flake the canopy between the A and B lines, the rest I leave. OK, my last opening was shit but that was the first time in hundreds of jumps. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  15. I am going in to hospital next week to have my titanium rods removed. This is only possible due to the bone graft they did to repair the vertebrae. I will let you know how the OP goes. I expect a 3 month layoff before I can jump again. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  16. Sadly the bears were there. I will miss the lucid and informative posts from someone I will never get the chance to meet. Blue Skies Tonto Fly free forverer Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  17. On the 1st July 2006 I trashed my T12 in my back. Jump no 2068 on a Velocity 90 loaded at about 2-1. The first op to put in the stabilisers was not much of a problem but the second one with bone grafts to repair the vertebrae really took it's toll, I spent the first 3 months not really doing anything apart from being thankful I was not paralyzed from the waist down. For the next six months I had a trainer twice a week that helped me rebuild my back muscles (the wonders of German medical insurance). You do not need to spend much time at all doing nothing to require a lot more time to rebuild muscle loss. I was supposed to wait 12 months before I jumped again, but we had such beautiful weather here in April 2007 that I decided, what the hell, I need to jump again. My first jump after a 9 month layoff was with a Spectre 135. I had jumped this exact canopy before and I knew it would open nice and soft. I wanted to be sure I did not get a slammer on my newly repaired back. My next jump was on my VX99 loaded at 1.6. I did about 20 jumps on this with 90° approaches. It was really about getting used to the speed again. On one jump during those 20 I got a wake up call. I was getting complacent about flying the canopy and ended up landing with the wind partly in a low turn. Thankfully nothing but a bruised ego and few comments from my friends asking me to take it easy. I realised you need time to get used to not only the canopy but all aspects of flying a parachute. I then forced myself to concentrate on every aspect of my canopy flight and analyze what the canopy was doing relative to other canopies and the ground with control each input I made. After the 20 jumps on the VX I then jumped my Velocity again. The 1st few jumps doing just 90° approaches, then I went back to throwing 270's when conditions allowed. Initially I was making the turns to high, deliberately using my Neptune as a guide. I needed at least another 50 jumps before my eyes became accustomed to the picture I should be seeing during the turn and landing. It was a while before I used lead weights again, because I decided after my accident I would give up competition swooping. After maybe a hundred jumps the big Tandem arrived who wanted video. So I strapped on a shit load of lead, moved my turn height up 60 feet or so, and was that a sweet landing. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  18. I think mine represents the compassion and understanding I feel for my fellow human beings. At the same time it provokes a sense of achievment, perhaps encouraging others to take that step forward. . . . . . . . . . . . On the other hand it's just me flying my parachute Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  19. I kena give any more reverse thrust, the dilithium just kena take it. Looks like the borg has goot us! Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  20. This is an interesting thread. Do you think the vidiot realised the TM had a streamer before he pulled? Only last weekend I videoed a similar opening. In my case the TM did not fall past me because the main did open in the end. Tracking after videoing Tandems is a good idea. The problem is that landing on the DZ is also a good idea and both do not always go together. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  21. Well as my Dad used to say "They are fiendishly clever, those Chinese". He seemed to think the Chinese had more intelligence than the Brits. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  22. The reason films are produced is to make money. Or did I miss something important in the last Bond movie? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  23. Thank you for the explanation, I did not realize that plants transported so much moisture into the air. I really thought that the plants where there because of the moisture. So if I understand correctly the droughts are nothing to do with global warming, it's the people cutting down the trees that are the problem. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  24. I keep reading here that Al Gore is worth $100 million. He's only polluting to get the message across. But, if he's got all that money and the message is that important, WHY do I have to pay to see "An Inconvenient Truth". Why is it not on YouTube? Is the money perhaps more important than the message? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  25. That is another one for Chuck Norris to count. Global warming makes the earth spin slower Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
