    Nope. The top two options would be to A) Not jump in those winds, or B) Do a better job of spotting. Nope, a) I had no problem jumping in those winds b) Spotting was great, I landed exactly where I wanted to. I don't "recommend" that anyone repeats what I did. But this is something a few of us do on our DZ when the winds are high. Towards the evening when the ground winds have dropped a bit we will jump when the winds are still high at 3000 - 5000 ft.     Maybe, but I have done it. Hop n pop from 5000ft, winds at 35 kts. The best option was to get down below 2000 ft as quickly as possible where there was less wind. With a Velo that something you can do quickly

    First off. Talk to your instructors at your DZ. They will know and have seen how you perform under canopy. They can give you advice based on first hand knowledge. Second.     I did not massage any numbers, I just looked at your graph and stated an obvious fact. This is also a fact that the IPCC agrees on. The IPCC states that this cooling trend was due to sulphates in the atmosphere masking the effects of CO2. Once the industrialized nations started to clean up the air pollution the masking effect disappeared and the warming started again. However, the deniers would say that climate scientists acknowledge that the aerosol issue is one of the key uncertainties in their understanding (see attached graphic). Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

    It is very easy on a student canopy to screw youself into the ground and get killed. Low turns kill on any canopy (except maybe for rounds - I don't know anything about them). Thinking ahead and planning your pattern is the key. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

    You can turn 90° lower than 300 feet safely under most canopies. The 1000ft, 600ft and 300ft is a good guide to get you used to organizing your pattern for the landing. The guy who radios you down will have lots more experience than you have and may ask you to turn lower that the figures above and it will still be safe. When landing on your own use the heights from your FJC to make your turns. As you gain more experience you come to realise than you can turn a little lower safely. A "canopy control course" at your DZ is the best place to expand on your skills. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

What is under discussion is why does your graph show cooling between 1945 and 1979? I have even given you the answer, but you still seem unable to admit that it shows a definate cooling trend over a 35 year period between 1945 and 1979 as CO2 levels were rising.     It's your graph, not mine. I was only pointing out that you statement associated with graph was actually incorrect. No mention of the temps starting to sink after 1945. If we are talking long term trends why do you only show a graph the starts at 1880? This is what irks me about the alarmist faction.     I can only say that this is the impression I got when reading realclimate.org. Are they not scientists? They admit that they really are a bit in the dark when trying guess what affect the current warming will have on things such as rainfall , storms and such. With each IPCC report, the amount of warming due is reduced. It seems obvious to me eventually the alarmist nature of press will in the end have to adhere to what the people at RC are saying.     You are quite right, the GWing alarmists will sometime soon be put in their place. The scientists in the meantime will refine their models, adjust their predictions and we will get to the point where we can show :- 1) Any reduction on our current CO2 emissions will have very little impact in the global temperature 2) The planet is not 5 years away from disaster (your article quoted a non- scientist) 3) alternative energy sources to fossil fuels are required, with or without GWing 4) we should direct our financial and technological resources towards new energy sources and to protect the population from the effects of climate change Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
