At the German Swooping Open last year I would say about 50% of the competitors had the top ring configuration. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

That is correct, but they push belly fliers for longer. On a windy day hold in one hand a golf ball (freeflier) and in the other hand a feather (belly flier) and drop both of them. The wind does not push them in different directions, it just pushes the feather further away from you. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

Rehma - all your points are valid - although I calculate an early light always and just tell small ways to count to 10 after green before they exit. Even if they don't, they can still reach the DZ, it's just a bit more difficult. ZigZagMarquis - I was not advocating FF before RW, but just giving a more solid way to calculate how much more separation is needed for a into the wind droprun. My only concern was that people may believe a "few" seconds more is needed when really it's a lot of seconds. You can exit in any order safely if you know how. I just wanted to say to ZigZagMarquis how. As Winsor pointed out earlier, why make things difficult? Put the RW out first and make things easier. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

Yep the forward throw difference is 3.5 and not 4 seconds. It is just easier to count to 4 rather than 3.5 The additional wait time is needed when the jump run is into the wind to adjust for the difference in freefall drift. It is only needed if there is wind. Hence you always need the 3.5 (or 4 secs) plus the 2 seconds for every 10 kts of wind (freefall drift difference). Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

4 second canopy ride? But wait that's only if your freefall speed is 120 mph, they are claiming over 186 mph. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
-
Try adding to your usual separation time, 4 seconds plus 2 seconds for every 10 kts of upperwinds. So if you would leave 8 seconds following a belly flier, and the uppers are at 30 kts, when a belly follows the freeflier he would leave 8 + 4 + ( 3 * 2) = 18 seconds. As you can see, you should be leaving more than a few seconds. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

Maybe the atmosphere is a lot denser than ours due to more gravity and we would actually fall slower. Landing a birdman might be a really possibility! Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

http://persianmirror.com/Article_det.cfm?id=1378&getArticleCategory=41&getArticleSubCategory=2 From - Persian Mirror PAAviation is in the process of opening the FIRST skydiving centre in Iran. Due to the fact that we have female instructors, this will also be the first UNISEX skydive centre in the entire Middle East, uniquely allowing Muslim women to experience the thrill and exhilaration of skydiving. We have exclusive use of a brand new Britten-Norman Islander aircraft. This is the first western made aircraft supplied to Iran since the revolution, click here. We will be based at Azadi airport, just 50 km from Tehran, on the Tehran Qazvin Highway. We have British and European instructors with full international certification, ensuring that our students will be trained in a safe and professional manner. Students are required to pre-book the time and date of the jump. Upon completion of their booking, they can proceed to our airfield at Azadi airport. On the day of the jump, our instructors give a pre-flight safety and ground school briefing, explaining exactly what happens during the skydive. Tandem jumps will be performed, which means that the students will be safely strapped harnessed to the instructor at all times. Once the safety briefing is complete,The aircraft takes off, and will climb to 10000feet, at this altitude, the instructor and student exit the aircraft, and freefall at speeds over 300KPH! After approximately 60 seconds of free falling, the instructor opens the parachute canopy, and allows the student to steer the parachute on to the drop zone. ----------------------------------------------------- Looking at the freefall speeds it looks like they are doing drogueless tandems. Yeah, you are right, it doesn't seem to work that well at all. Yesterday they were predicting rain. 2 hours before the rain was due to arrive they changed their minds and said no rain. Its a bit like the guys at real climate, they predict something, and when the observations don't tally, they tweek the model until it matches the observations. The model works for a while until the next observation screws things up again. Don't ge me wrong, I am not saying they should not be using computer models, I am just surprised that they lend so much weight to the models. Also, I am sure both you and Kallend understand the huge difference between modelling the climate and modelling how an aircraft flies through the air. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

I spent a few weeks looking at realclimate.org and those guys really scare me. They are so hooked on computer models. I program stuff all day for a living, but predicting the climate with a computer GIGO Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

in a resturant and this happens. Man Chops Off His Penis In Restaurant A man is in hospital after chopping off his penis in a busy London restaurant. Horrified diners watched as the man grabbed a large kitchen knife and lopped off his manhood. It happened at Zizzi's pizza restaurant in the Strand, in the capital's West End theatre heartland. Sales rep Stuart McMahon, who was eating at the restaurant with his girlfriend, told The Sun: "This guy came running in then charged into the kitchen, got a massive knife and started waving it about. "Everyone was screaming and running out as he jumped on a table, dropped his trousers and popped his penis out. "Then he cut it off. I couldn't believe it." Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

Sure, the 20 seconds head start the freeflier has with his Sabre 150 is going make sure he lands before the following belly flier with his Velocity 75. I think not. You cannot solve problems with canopy traffic by putting people out on top of each other. Only a few weeks ago at my home DZ the arguement about canopy traffic was put to me by a freeflier. He went against DZ policy and exited 1st as a freefly group. Guess what? for the first time in ages we nearly had a canopy collision between one of the freefliers and a following bellyflier. It was only after I posted the surprise at climbing passes at Perris that I realized the otter has much higher stabalizers than a Cessna 208b. Climbing passes with our aircraft are just not on. But I can believe with an otter it's O.K. The comment about not needing to "jump up" is only valid if the jumper knows he/she must not jump up. No problem for me or you, but do they all know this? Err , even I, as a raging denier, albeit type 3, realises that the CO2 levels are rising due to humans burning fossil fuels. Don't you believe that? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

All the little things about cameraflying...
speedy replied to lewmonst's topic in Photography and Video
It took me a while to figure this one out - on climb out the wind would press on the camera cover just hard enough to switch the camera off. So I bought a cameye - The contacts between the cameye and the camera would vibrate in freefall and switch the camera off So I bought a small mirror and duct taped it to the inside of the plane near the door. And who else is sick of rolling the tape and then pilot can't get clearance to drop. (maybe just a German problem). I could list a whole bunch of other things but a public forum is not the best place to do it Dave Fallschirmsport Marl -
I agree with you entirely. I am not looking for a precise number. It's a bit like - "you think you can hold onto a baby in a 30 mph crash? It weighs nearly 3 tons at the moment of impact". Usless info but it does sort of make you think, maybe the seatbelt is better. So how many G's does a normal opening exert on the jumper? Thanks for your other comments though.

If the total forcing is lower, why do the IPCC predict much higher rises in temperature? You cannot have it both ways. Edited to add: If you could go with a 0.8°C temp increase for 560 ppm CO2 then we might be agreement. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
-
No. My question was why the models the IPCC use assume 0.5 - 1.0 °C of warming per Wm² , and you quoted a forcing of 1.5 Wm² (which is way below what the IPCC use due to feedbacks) but we have not had a measured warming effect for this level of forcing. I did not say warming has not occurred, I just said it does not match up to the climate models from the IPCC. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
