  1. america will get the hang of socialism one day, there is enough money in the pot, more than enough, just the rogues seem to get all the goodness. Imagine how many fingers are in the US automaker pie.... What a waste of money, shame about all the jobs though, that money could have created enough jobs in more lucrative industries! 2. In New Zealand's socialised healthcare system all parties would be fixed with no $ charge to any party, tourists included! "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  3. At our DZ we offer handicam video and stills, i use a HC96 at presen't. We alos offer ouside video and stills with proper cameras. The frame grabs are not really that accepetable but OK for punters to put straight on facebbok etc. HC96 is old hat now, there are plenty of cheap cameras that can produce 'OK' frame grabs, much better than an hc96 anyway. 4. and $13 jump tickets make it oh so worth it, it is not as if a fast parachute stopps becoming fast if you do not do 270+ degrees. i did 150 jumps in lodi last july and di only 90's as required, those 150 jumps only cost me $1950 how much do they cost at your DZ at those rates? I still had some really fun landings there, (i love monday morning flooded landing area!) and when I went to perris valley shortly after, I found my 270 swoops had improved significantly? Lodi rocks! 5. I have never realy said decimetre since primary school. Deci, Mili, Centi... = 10, 1000, 100... what does inch mean? mile? chain, how do they relate to each other? 1 cubic centimetre of water weighs 1 gram and is 1 mililitre, it boils at 100 degrees celcius and freezes at 0 degrees celcius, if you times those figres by 10 or 100 or 49 or 1000,000 those corelations will continue infinantly. So aside from being a tounge twister of syllables, each name decribes this and eliminates additional calculations that would need to be done using the imperial system. say for seing how much the 679 litres of water is? = 679KG! try doing that with pounds and gallons! 6. Yup, that was a good event, Despite bad weather and a tornado a day or two before everyone arrived, they had the chunk of the competition completed on the first available good weather day thanks to 'primo' organisation and 15 or so pilatus porters. The flying was amazing in all departments, quite inspiring indeed. I am looking forward to witnessing VRW4 becoming the premiere event over then next few years. It will open the opportunities for newer artistic freelyiers as competitiors will have to choose between artistic or formation (VRW) as under the current rules it is not allowed to compete in both. I have heard of a few freeflyers and freestylers that are changing to VRW over the next couple of competitions! 7. Hi, Reading through the latest Australian skydiver magazine, i see a full page Ad about a new tunnel in australia, in surfers paradise. The ad is actually a compaetition to design a logo for the operation and they are offering at least $1000 of tunnel time for the winner. The photographs used in the advertisement show a wind tunnel with 'IFly' logos clear to see and a large tunnel in an open area, that has no metal seams in the construction of the tunnel chamber itself. it looks like a large glass chalis made from 4 large curves sections of plexiglas joined by a transparent seam. Quite exciting really! Anyone have first hand news or knowledge of this operation? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  8. If you have a rating or endorsement for somthing then you are liable for any information you give, if you do not have a rating or endorsement, then any instruction you give whethergood or bad is not backed up by a rating and the responsability remains with the person reciving the instruction and the DZSO or Cheif Instructor, rather than the person that gave the instructions. It is commonplace that bad advice is given to people by non instructors with the best intentions. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  9. So a teacher that is punched by a student should then punch the said student to show him who is boss? That type of thinking is seriously flawed, the reason the world is at war constantly and is contributing to the problems rather than resolving them. How much less terrorism is in the world since trillions of dollars have been spent on the 'War on terror'? There is now more terrorism! Why? due to the amount of civillian casualties from both sides and the 'blame game' that keeps the human race separated from each other. Unfortunately at the same time destroying the 'other' occupiers of this fragile amazing planet that we all live on and take so for granted. 10. You hit the nail on the head, But shooting the kid with a shotgun wouldn't be the best way to deal with the situation and that is what israel are doing. What is it with the military that they cannot use covert subtle operations to achieve thier objective? Cheaper more effective, less destuctive conflict. Reducing civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure..... ... but where is the money in that! 11. But if you a competing, have a newish different canopy, No RDS system (yet) and want to score your best in distance and speed then that would be a feasable system, I know Jim Slaton used that system at some stage. He mentioned it on his website. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  12. Another thread got me thinking, Is it absurd to think that this could happen one day or not? Is this akin to the number '0' being adopted by the west over 1000 years the after eastern world had been using it. Banning it at one stage and then adopting it once the church allowed interest to be charged on loans. Or is there really no difference between the two sytems to ever be an advantage? I am yet to 'fathom' the imperial system and probably never will. But metric is increasingly being utilised in the USA due to imported products and globalisation. What do you all think? 13. watch, learn, discuss, perfect standard approaches and accuracy first, then get coaching and by then you will yourself know what you have to do. I know you are probably just being an inquisitive newbie, but swoopoing is not a thing that should be rushed and you ar a long way off yet. You are a long time dead, what is the hurry! Be safe have fun.
  14. yes and along with the mindset that the imperial system is superior and easier. Just like it took you/us europeans 1000 years to accept the number '0'. The hindis and muslims were using zero for a millenia before the church would accept it. Funnily enough, that only changed when it finally became acceptible and not a sin to charge interest on loans by the catholic church! 16. Hi, There is small claims court in New Zealand, I will get my money off him. I will have to make sure it is within 5 years of the invoices though. I left New Zealand shortly after I worked there and have only been in the country for a week or two on two occasions since. There was too much snowboarding and ground launching to do, rather than chasing that fool around. He is a 747 captain for Air New Zealand, so he should have plenty of cash (but doesn't) and is often in LA or London. If you manage a dropzone of his, he still barks orders to you from london or LA at all hours of the evening and morning. I got a Debt collection agency onto him prior to leaving but he is too slimy at not paying and Baycorp obviously think $500 (for their fee) is not enough money to spend any sort of energy on getting out of him. He does owe many people money and has insulted and left in the lurch so to speak, many people (T/M's, camera guys, packers. managers, marketing managers...) from many places. He really is an Asshole. I have travelled the world since and am earning really good money now so realy don't give a toss, but will get it our of him when I live in NZ again in the not too distant future. Pink Floyd

their best compilation album is relics, the best songs from a saucer full of secrets and piper at the gates of dawn, The best cover album is 'the 'Dub'of the moon' fuck I love that album. anything 'after' the wall is kinda weak in comparison toi the earlier albums! IMO Though wish you were here is quite good. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  19. This is the kind of talk I want to hear, I have no worries checking out a car I know older toyotas and hondas reasonably well and looking at some of the listings, honda accords and civics are 'cheap as chips' and they are reliable motors and I can fix them on the side of the road if I have the parts. The registration and insurance thing is my main concern. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  20. and many have appreciated learning from and sharing with you, myself included. You are right that the camera guys, the ones that actually have a passion for it, are a different breed! We document the amazing things that happen in the sky while doing amazing things ourselves that mostly go unrecognised. It is our passion that keeps us doing it. and the conception of broad spectrum, user freindly, high definition solid state video cameras for skydiving! + the conception of light weight single lens video and still capabilties! 21. Hi, My Fiance (will be my wife then ) and I will be going to the United States of America for two tourist visa, 90 day periods. We will be going to Europe for 2 weeks after the first visa period. The first 90 days will be training for the skydiving world cup and the second Leigh is participating in the 'Jump for the Cause' record attempts again in September. I am interested in purchasing a car while there and have had a browse on the internet here and find it difficult getting good information about the legal side of stuff, Insurance, drivers license law, vehicle ownership law etc... Looks like we will most likely purchase a car (older toyota or similar) in Florida and drive to California and sell it there in the end. I will have a New Zealand and Australian (queensland) drivers license upon arrival in the USA. If any of you have any advice or can make any helpful suggestions, they would be very much appreciated. 23. Under current infrustucture and recources available it is not viable to make these biofuels on a large scale witout effecting global food prices negatively, But with a little open mindedness, and a bit of infraustructure (desalination plants allowingfarms on desserts) then this could work. Will Exxon mobil, shell, BP, the rockerfellers and rothchilds and all those guys allow it? That is the deciding factor, they may well have to? Opec kinda screwed themselves late last year being greedy, deserves them right. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

    Happy New Year.....

... Fools! Just saw the most intense firworks I have ever seen! I'm in Cairns Australia. despite the financial doom and gloom around the world 2009 is looking awesome for me, I hope you all have a good one also. blue skies, Rhys "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  25. And why did you not test the moulten metal? Why did the NIST deny any knowledge of such moulten material? I am a jewleller, i melt metal. I know how much energy and how much insulation there needs to be in order to keep metal moulten. How do you suggest as an engineer, that metal(steel not aluminium) is kept in a state of liquid in the largest heat sink in the world (being the earth isteslf) covered in powdered rock, for a period of numerous weeks, fueled by no more than the residue of office equpment and Jet A1. It is not possible. Stepen jones and his crew found traces of thermate including granules of the substance itself in the Ground Zero site. Go get your oxy acetylene kit out, get some steel and try to keep it melted in a rock lined sandpit filled with steel rods, you will have trouble bringing it to melting point let alone for any time at all. simple science no tricky bits, just plain and simple.
