Any news of the California state record?
rhys replied to kallend's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
would that make the 2005 JFTC 151 way the current state record? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -

Why does a shit economy support such a strong dollar?
rhys replied to rhys's topic in Speakers Corner
also the australian graph start from when the AUS$ was above US$0.90 which is abnormally high. US$0.75 is normal so the decline looks more dramatic on that graph than in reality. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -
Hi, What is the current going rate (ballpark) in the USA for a complete Sigma Tandem rating, From medical, paperwork and exam jumps...? Also what is involved in transferring an Australian or New Zealand tandem rating to a USPA version? Any information really appreciated. thanks, Rhys "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Those numbers will be from the USA alone, there are over 300 million people in the untied states. 40 or so million doesn't sound right at all. The entire world has been watching intently. I only posted what was televised about it in the media here. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

USPA Membership Dues& Rating Fees going up?
rhys replied to chriswelker's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
how much does it cost for a tandem rating? $50 doesn't sound like very much for an annual memebrship, try $200 over here in Aus. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -
Why does a shit economy support such a strong dollar?
rhys replied to rhys's topic in Speakers Corner
I have been watching the currency exchange rates quite intently as I will be moving between 3 countries with various expenses soon. Through the doom and gloom and the financial crisis, the US dollar has regained more strength than any, and it is the US economy that tiggered the collapses. Before the Aus$ was $0.98 - US$1, now it is only $0.65- $1. My guess is the guys that own all the money in the world have snavelled it all and are keeping it in US$, they control the finacial rates and we suffer due to thier greed. But I am a paranoid delusionalist arent I! "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -
The reccomendations that I said are the legal requirements in New Zealand. That is how I learned, and have witnesses many others learn. Within 8 months of my first jump I had 200 jumps and was jumping with tandems, after a year from my first jump I was a proffessional camera jumper, full time and my only income. By the time I had been in the sport 2 and a half years I had over 2000 jumps and was earning $50k, still on fulltime camera. I gained a 96% grade tertiary education in commercial skydiving that my govornment granted me 50% of the fees. we learnd about all aspects of commercial skydiving in a university type setting. I was 'full time' (5 days a week) jumping from my first jump gaining skills that would allow me to be a camera flyer. while the weather was bad we had lectures and examinations on various aspects of the industry and sport. I am not trying to blow smoke up my own ass but trying to point out that the " 2 years and 500 jumps to jump with a tandem" attitude or rules, are not the case everywhere, and are simply holding back good quality skydivers. You may be suprised that the reccomended and legal requirement of jump numbers for a tandem in New Zealand is 1000 jumps. My 'anyone can do anything attitude' as you called it, still believes that 500 jumps is Far_Too_Little of an amount for tandems! Skill, attitude and competence are not measured by a time frame or a jump number, they are witnessed by those that are qualified! I was even accused of lying about my jump numbers in these forums, by a similar attitude that seemed to know nothing about anything other than what they are surrounded by. you are hillarious! You didn't see the 2 million people that showed up in person to see him sworn in?, or hear about the potential 2 billion people watching live? That is a 3rd of the world population. Being sworn in means you have proved yourself already. Wake up bro! Cough cough bullshit cough cough! Depending on your currency and attitude he could be ready any time now to jump with tandems. Some people take years and many hundreds of jumps to be ready and some are ready at 150 or so jumps. (where I am from) The reccomended minimum for a camera helmet is 100 jumps, then it is 200 minimum to jump with a Tandem (I have seen this done at around 100 jumps, succesfully and seemingly safely, but don't reccommend that at all). For the O.P.; Get you camera skills up with solo jumpers first while familiarising yourself with your wings, once yo have 200 or so do a few jumps with the tandems without the camera and when you feel comfortable and competent, start filming. If you have a good connection with the instructors you wil learn really fast, try to pick instructors that have plenty of experience filming tandems themselves. As long as you are allowed by your CI and feel competent, go for it! You could be making lots of jumps and earning money sooner than you think. Wings are much more suited for filming tandems, whether you have a small light instructor and passenger or big fat ones, they can be tucked into your armpits or spread out like a bat, a freefly style suit, even with baggy arms and 'swoop loops' will never have as much range as wings! Look at what the real pro's use. Not your local hot shot, but the real professionals like Norman Kent etc... get a camera jacket with wings, the best thing since sliced bread. I started skydiving in general, as a career. My first jumpo was on the NZ Skydiving school. My intention has always been to make money, inadvertantly I developed a love for the sport and a passion to fulfull the expectations (within reason) of each customer I have. Skydiving is a great job, passtime and passion. I really don't know what I would do without it now! I agree with you entirely there, but we are using much more than we need to, they don't need to be made of oil, and there is no cosequence for deliberately using more harmful substances than are available. I still buy stuff and consume, but I avoid unececassary and avaidable waste, as you have told us you do, but infortunately, too many do not care in the slightest. that creates pollution that we all do not need!. where does it end up? some of it by nice people like you will dispose of it proerly my many do not and you end up with; http://kaiborn.com/assets/images/greenpeace-trashVortex.jpg this type of stuff makes me fell ill in the stomach! the internal combustion engine is 100 years old, and is well past its use by date, unfortunately, intellectual property law allows the small few that make shitloads of cash from us consumers, keep on doing it, there have been alternatives for decades. Where does that air that you breath come from?, the water you drink... catch my drift... What about a clean, modern, orderly place with all the civil infrastructure and a genuine concern for the well being of the surrounding environment and ecosystems? wouldn't that be better? go visit a landfill and see the waste, go visit an opencast mine and see the carnage, look at what you throw out everyday, coffee cups, packaging, food.... Everything is made to last only a short period of time so we continue to buy more of the same items. Tell me an industry that doesn't do this. valuable resources are being wasted unnecessarily. eg, ceramic shaver bladed were invented last century and don't go blunt fo a very long time, how many shavers would you not buy if 1 would last you years? We are wasting resources left right and centre, we are just used to it and do not desire the change we need. I don't believe in Jeevus, or any so god that has been explained to me, you would have to be an idiot to believe that crap. That is not to say there is not a creator of some kind, I imagine a great flaming mass of energy in the middle of the universe, if there is a middle, but who really knows. I believe in evolution and that seemed straight forward untill I found out about 'Bacterial Flagellum' http://www.darwinismrefuted.com/irreducible_complexity_01.html These things go completely against darwins theory, but do not make God any more feasable. Quite, a complex conversation but simple in theory. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

If you have lived in an un polluted area (im mean untouched) and then you visit, los angeles for example. then you will realise that having millions cars and trucks propelled by internal combustion engines burning fossil fuels is not good, un-filtered industrial activity...not good, using all usable land for human activity without nature reserves..... guess what not good. This failure to see the negative effect of human activity on earth is generally from pigheadded (that'l be $15 tax thanks) greedy, morons. Just keep on raping the recources, make money, who gives a shit what happens in 100 years, we'll all be dead anyway right! Would the USA ever adopt the metric system, realisticly?

Too many lemmings here in the speakers corner for any suggestions like that bro... What is interesting is the value of the US dollar, with such a shithouse economy and statistics it still holds a high value. I would bet the rockerfellas and rothchilds etc. would have something to do with that as thier fortunes would most likely consist mainly of US$. ?!? Months? everyone is fixed as soon as possible, the more serious the faster. I broke my arm (ulna and radius) and as soon as they discovered it was a compaound fracture, I was put on a helecopter to the closest city and was given surgery. The accident was at 3pm and I woke at midnight the same day with plates and screws in my arm and was released to go home the next morning. No fucking around, no extra nights in the bed to get a better insurance claim and i had to pay nothing. If the same thing happened to a tourist they would recieve the same treatment. a minor injury does not get a helecopter ride but will be fixed in a toimely manner all the same! Why would you have to wait months? you could be dead by then. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Auto bailout supporters! Calling all auto bailout supporters!
rhys replied to TheAnvil's topic in Speakers Corner
Nah you've got it back to front you silly billys, you 'should' tax the companies and the people to support the people. Not tax the companies and people top support the (failing) companies. There is a good reson those companies failed and the credit crunch has nothing to do with it. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -

rhys replied to rhys's topic in Speakers Corner
now you are mixing the imperial system with the metric. decimal points are from the metric system you should have said 8LB's and 8/10's or some fraction. maybe you have already adopted the metric system without knowing? you are not getting the point, as most americans don't! if I need 14.4 kg's of weight (or any amount), I know instantly that if I use water, one of the most abundant elements on earth; I would need 14.4 litres and it would take up 14400cc, water is often used as ballast, weight etc. having the whole system based on water makes all the calculations easier. the imperial system does not have such an advantage. fractions are not precise when you have remainders etc. Funnily enough in New Zealand we call standard building framing (2x4 in america) "four by two" from the olden days and they measure 100mm x 50mm.
