  1. Damn straight, nuclear weapons are stupid. The USA public generally don't realise how close the lower half of USA came to nuclear destruction in the Cuba/USSR debacle only a few decades ago. Those that don't know about it should watch' '11 Lessons in the Life of Robert McNamara'. From the horses mouth! Very interesting indeed... 2. Your thoughts towards guns is quite the opposite, seems hypocritical. This guy fucked up, people fuck up, he admitted it and we have learned off it. handicam allows small cessna skydiving to be feasable, in countries that have been payng over $1 per litre of gas for over a decade. USA has the privilidge of having cheap gas. Hundreds of thousands of handicam jumps have been made, I have made over 1000 myself. i was just working at the place that developed the handicam concept for tandems (cairns) and they still run outside camera as well. It need not be a replacement, and it need not be dangerous. A tandem jump wihout handicam seems too easy for me now days. I had a tandem chop with handicam and it posed no obstuction to my emergency P's. I got O.k. footage once the reserve handle was pulled too(inadvertantly), but the RSL already had the canopy snivelling by then. "Do the Banana, Do the banana" I was saying at the time. 4. have you heard 'The decline' from NOFX, a fucking Masterpiece. You tube has a couple of home made videos of it, with the words. NOFX don't really do music vids or MTV etc. not since the epitaph days anyway. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  5. Full time drouge whore, part time sport jumper. I am reminded most days about how good my job is and i hope i never forget how good it is. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  6. Hi, I have been watching the US$, AUS$ and the NZ$ quite closely over the last couple of months because i am going to be in all 3 countries for varous reasons over the next few months. The US$ was NZ$2.02(quite extraordanary) a couple of weeks ago now it is $1.78 and falling, 1 aus$ was US$0.63 a week or two ago now it is $0.70 and growing. The difference between the AUS and NZ has been about the same so the US$ is falling quite rapidly. it has been quite high for that last while so probably losing it's ground, but so fast! Any economists out there know what is likely to happen over the next month or so? I'll be juggling AUS$, NZ$ and US$ and kinda wouldn't mind not losing too much. Any thoughts? 7. I'm getting a 304. I would prefer less length in the container for 1/2 and inch thicker overall. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

  9. Really this thread was started because there was an announcement from PD that there is something new coming out. I thought it might be the illusive z brace technology that was talked about 2 years ago, which by the way NZaerosports had already developed but not named yet at the time. A modertor then snipped a section of the 'Something new from PD' thread and began this one. I want to know what happens next in canopy technology, i know there is differences between Velo and JVX and I have never said Velos are bad, just some hear it that way. That is part of what I am after. I am comfortable with my 270's and am looking at working on the skills needed to perform 450's accurately and benificially. I'm gonna be running outside camera almost full time soon so want to get my head around what I am dealing with so i can tune my practice drills as best as i can before i bring these things down to ground level. I know I can't get my JVX to go as fast as it can go in a 270's contrary to what others have said here. I saw my friend go to 450's without really doing much preparation for them ans as well as he is keeping out of the corner I belive he is not diving the canopy as much as he could. But is still getting pretty good results. I wann get maximum benifit without too much added danger. What interestes me though is the differences between 7 and 9 cell crossbraced, the trim of such canopies and where the next step is going to be. I really doubt PD's next big thing will be another 7 cell but only time will tell. Thanks for that information, it is consitent with what Ian has experienced also and makes a whole lot of sense. Also it is consistent with my thoughts but the unanswered portion is effect of the different roll outs or recovery arcs. Is a shorter recovery recovery arc influenced by the trim alone? or is the lift produced a real contributing factor? Assuming the canopy is diving at its maximum potential speed when the the controls are released/begin to release, and the roll out begins at the right height... Is a shorter or longer recovery arc going to make a difference in the amount of momentum/speed once the canopy had levelled out? Will a canopy with more lift recover faster due to the lift? 10. Sure, this is a discussion forum and that is what we are doing, discussing. that is a great point Not really that statement had a question mark at the end of it, I was aking your opinion. The quesion in perhaps a better format is; If under the same wingloading, on a different canopy, you have more pressure on all risers(all 4 ar the same time) flying straight, With the same exit weight... would that not mean there is more lift being created? This is the good stuff, information produced from real experimentation. Is it IYO only the flatter trim that is making the recovery arc shorter on the JVX or could the possibility of more lift contribute also? I am trying to learn here, am not trying to argue. 11. i was packing tandems and sport rigs before My first jump, when I started my course the weather was bad for 3 weeks so that is waht wi did in the meantime. I may have even packed my first jump but not too sure. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  12. You can have your twitchy, but I don't believe velos are twitchy? Heatwaves and Stilettos are twitchy. So you are saying that Nick Batch's 665 ft swoop could/should have been done with a 270 degree turn? Dreaming! Agreed So you are saying that because it was harder to learn on, that contributes to it being a better canopy or more rewarding to learn to fly? I like the stability of my JVX, it is very predictable and I am glad I don’t have to consistently correct it. It is still fast and I can be as aggressive as I want. I would hate it if it did things that I didn't want it to do. Each to their own though, I suppose. 13. Says me I never said velocity risers are mushy, just pointing out that firm front risers are not a bad thing. More riser pressure overall (front and rear risers) on the same wing loading would have to mean more lift, otherwise what else is creating the added tension between the canopy and the pilot? Explain? From what I have learned, the recovery arc is very separate from the dive, it takes some time diving the canopy until it has reached its maximum potential speed, If this manoeuvre is performed well it would take a lot longer to dive the canopy than the recovery arc would take. The recover arc has not a lot to do with the diving. Diving happens from the input from the pilot including; wing loading, type of input(harness, riser/s combined), the rate of turn and the amount of degrees in the turn. The recovery arc simply takes that momentum from vertical to a horizontal. On a lower turn with minimal input, yes a slightly longer recovery arc will create slightly more speed but the speed should already have been generated before the recovery arc starts, if we are talking about optimum performance levels. 14. Harden up cupcake, I have no trouble getting my JVX to dive, a mushy front riser is not good for high performance landings. ... If you think a JVX is a great canopy why are you proud that you don't own one? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  15. All 3 of those canopies are a bad choice, falcon and PD190's are F111 material so they have bad flare and don't last very long, and sabres are not good canopies, in thier day(over a decade ago) all 3 of them were good but now you have the choice of many much better canopies. I would suggest a Safire 2 for you as they are IMHO the best canopy in thier class. A safire 1 is also good. A sabre 2 would be apporopriate too but a sabre 1 will most likely only make your physio therapist money! 16. Find a coach that is a skysurfer, No point in learning the hard way what others have died doing. Even though there are not many competing anymore there are still guys and gals out there with the skills to teach you. google skysurf coach etc. Now skysurfing has been removed from the worl championships, it will be increasingly difficult to find these people as time goes on. 17. from dictionary.com Terrorism, Pronunciation [ter-uh-riz-uhm] Show IPA –noun 1. the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, esp. for political purposes. 2. the state of fear and submission produced by terrorism or terrorization. 3. a terroristic method of governing or of resisting a government. Terrorist, Pronunciation [ter-er-ist] Show IPA –noun 1. a person, usually a member of a group, who uses or advocates terrorism. 2. a person who terrorizes or frightens others. 3. (formerly) a member of a political group in Russia aiming at the demoralization of the government by terror. 4. an agent or partisan of the revolutionary tribunal during the Reign of Terror in France. –adjective 5. of, pertaining to, or characteristic of terrorism or terrorists: terrorist tactics. I agree there are terrorist orgsnisations that are not called so. The GWB administration was one of many. But as someone said, if they are supposedly on your side then they are freedom fighters In my mind, anyone that kills anyone for political reasons without trial, is a terrorist. 18. a rinsed out spring 120 was the worst i have jumped. It would snivel for ges and then the inflation would still be hard. I would gently try to flare it and it would fall and stall on its ass behind me. i tried a near new one (less than 100 jumps on it)not long after, it opened better but the flare was very similar. He is using 'science' as a basis in his decisions, he is spending money on scientific research and caculated decisions rather than using only his intuition and religious belief. 21. Bullshit, I have never said rifles are bad or unsafe to own,In the wrong hands yes. Handguns are useless, and more dangerous in public becuase they can be concealed easily. rifles are accurate, handguns are inaccurate. The Swiss are onto it, because thay have been in a situation a few time where they have had all out war surrounding thier country, they stayed neutral. I have met many swiss, and know a few, how many conversations about guns have i had or heard them have..? ...0 They are not testosterone junkies like you guys so therefore guns are much safer in thier hands. 23. Well done on the website, a very good recourse and will promt operators to reconsider price hikes... awesome. I noticed the Lodi section didn't have gear hire prices listed and some might think that means there is no gear hire there. Thay actually have awsome modern gear hire and i don't think is is very expensive at all, to make it the least expensive DZ in the world. Well done again, I'm sure your site will get many hits. 25. Just because the aspect ratio is the same(similar), that does not mean the performance is the same. Why do paragliders have so many cells? Why are 9 cells more common than 7 cells in this day and age, does a thicker airfoil not have more drag than a thinner one? do stabalisers not cause added drag? There is alot more to it than apect ratio and the number of cells. The drag of the extra lines is reduced by a better, flatter, more rigid, thinner airfoil and the exclusion of the stabalisers would counter-act the addition of the lines somewhat also.
