  1. 6 months ago. not a smooth transition by any means but that was a lack of understanding by the management rather than the fault of the technology. those days are gone, tell me a camera since the PC350 that has proven its worth as well as the early PC's, they cost $1000's and they were worth every cent. nowdays things are quite different indeed. 2. I have read a great proportion of this thread but maybe repeating what someone else has said. I have competed in the last 2 world meets and the last world cup as a camera flyer. Solid state cameras first came up in the feedback meetings after the event had finished in Stupino in 2007, last year in mauberge the subject was also bought up and the organisers still seemed quite sure that firewire would still be the standard at the 2010 world meet, BUT.... it still could change between then and the next competition. We are expecting the bulliten for this years world cup to come out in the next couple of months and if there will be a change in the 2010 world meet it will most likely be trialled at this years world cup in prague. that is how I took what was said and that should not be treated as gospel. Many had complained/mentioned that MiniDV camera were already 'hens teeth'/obsolete and they should seriously consider changing to solid state sooner than later. They seemed to take notice but only they can decide what will happen. Surely drag and drop would be a shitload faster than live capture, but then we wouldn't get a naughty sneak preview of other teams routines! PD Pulse

I don't want to hijack the thread , but all this talk has me thinking, why don't you guys try an Icarus canopy? Icarus may not throw as many millions of dollars into R&D as PD but thier openings are soft and on heading. even my loaded JVX opens on heading 9 out of 10 times and I have never had line twists. In may i will be attending a big way camp and on heading openings are my biggest concern, i will be upsizing from my JVX84 to my icarus 105 that was made in 1993 (icarus model, jyro brand) before Icarus canopies as we know it now, was even started. It opens on heading and relatively soft, not as good as a newer safire or crossfire etc. though but it surprises me that a newer design canopy(sabre2) from the market leaders fails to open on heading more often then not. but back to the subject at hand... The low pack volume reserve material on the bottom skin on this PD pulse?... is that not just less expensive F111? 5. it says Faa cert on the advertisement, but that webbing wold be cotton (wouldn't it?), i wouldn't trust 50 year old cotton webbing. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  6. how aout jumping camera at your local DZ? or packing? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  7. That is not true, my old DZ moved to solid state cameras and the sonys proved to be the worst. The samsungs had to have the focus reset everytime they are turned on but that was overcome. The sonys had image stabaliser problems that were not overcome. The panasonics worked really well. No Sanyos yet but I was also interested in them when I looked. the new sony with the electronic image stabaliser looks like a winner though , but the cx7 and cx12's proved to be no good for an 'all round' camera flyer. 8. [sarcasm]don't you know that tandem instructors are immortal, they don't need helmets or RSL's that shit is for pussies.[/sarcasm] "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  9. When I was a child I had a school bank account, we would deposit a minimum of 5 cents each week to get a gold star on the wall, I changed schools and lost my passbook, 4 years later I had all my money + interest. that was in the early 80's. Anyone that is older than me will know that banks used to use your deposited money to invest and they would give you interest for it. We trust them with our money and they pay us for the privelidge. These days it is a rip off! A case study was done in New Zealand by a television show called 'Fair Go' a few years ago. $100 was deposited in 5 different banks and left for a year with no deposits and no withdrawls. After 12 months only 1 bank still had any money left in it and the rest were overdrawn with large fees. it is a rip off! Fortunately I have spare money these days and the banks will bend over backwards to keep those with more than $10k in the bank and less fees are charged. In this climate and as the second poster in this thread sarcasticly mentioned, the banks are the ones that dug the 6 foot hole that is the financial crisis. They have recieved billions of dollars from the taxpayer, they should at least look at helping those with very low incomes by waiving transaction fees or similar? not drive the nails in the coffin for those that lost almost everything due to the banks' greed. 10. This part is quite misleading, church goers often are expected to give a large proportion of thier income, and even though some may give to non-religious charities as well a huge proportion of all that money will be going to the church to buy tickets to heaven. Then the vicar get his Mercedes Benz, and yes the bums get their soup. It is not all bad but most of those charities would be churches and many of the cases, those that give are being made to or they will not be allowed to be a part of that church. for interests sake, after the huge (and still burning) bushfires here in australia, $100,000,000 was raised in just over a week by australians and still counting. in queensland there were devistating floods and many of the cash payouts the flood victims recieved went straight down to victoria to the fire victims. 11. In New Zealand helmets are mandatory and the customers have to use a soft helmet to protect the instructor. In Australia they are not required and neither the customer or the instructor wears them. While here in Australia I use earplugs as i see that as the most hazardous aspect aside from the odd riser slap (ouch) So I guess it comes down to the operations regulations of each individual country or governing organization. 12. Corporal punishment was outlawed in NZ in the home and school at my last year of high school. Political correctness has become rife and over the top and pussy assed, smart assed, lazy assed kids are the result. There is a fine line between abuse and punishment but when a kid can have his father jailed for smacking him on the ass... ... things have gone way too far. i understand it was harder post war, and it has gotten softer and softer as each generation has come to be but during my adolescence is when the unfortunate changes came into play that will have a strong lasting effect on society as we know it. Bloody Kids! "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  13. I was born in the 'X' generation (born november 1974) the 'Y' generation (born 1980's) are significantly different. Dicipline was the main thing that I beleive changed the attitudes is the lack of discipline. Now i have to say that i voted no on the poll, but military service would go a long way in resoling the issue. I believe it is the parents that should have the responsability. Political correctness has a huge role in the lack of respect the y generation and younger have. My generation still had the cane at school and the wooden spoon to the bottom was still common in the home. There is problems with abuse and overdoing it but that same goes for not doing enough! a tricky situation to resolve. 14. No one should be denied thier heritage, that is why people are defined by their ethnicity in NZ, Maori, Pacific islander, NZ european etc. the colour of you skin does not necessarily syblolise you ethnicity. Genetics can interfere with skin colour but not with where you come from. I don't like to be called white, I don't think i am anywhere close to the colour white, those names were made but stupid ass racist fuckwits that didn't have a fucking clue. It is a shame it takes so many generations to overcome such stupidity. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  15. Calling anyone black is considered offensive, no matter what coulour or race they are, where I am from (New Zealand). Colour of skin does not symbolise race, what about an albino african or a dark european? people should never be called black or white, nobody is actually balck or white we are all shades of brown! 16. depends which country they come from and which country they are in when they need it.... Should people be entitled to healthcare? Fuck yes. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  17. I hope so, I have bought our wedding rings already and still have to pay for our custom microns. A us$6400 order was around AUS$8800 a couple of months ago but now it is AUS$9900. Regardless of what most americans think, the US dollar has gained ALOT of strength through this economic down turn. 18. Agreed, i definately believe there is some sort of majic so to speak that makes everything work. But to focus the reason for existance around the human race alone, is foolish. That fact alone make many of the religions that are passes off as fact nothing more then laughable. The scary thing is the number of those that give thier lives to these type of lies and deceit. unfortunately they are the root of manyt of the worlds problems also. 19. The JVX bought many options never available before, apart from the nice on heading (better than crossfire) openings there were several construction innovations avalable to everybody, thinner profile, no stabalisers, stock HMA lines, better trim, sail cloth options... the JVX and the VX are very different canopies. they are both 9 cell Xbraces but quite different. Otherwise why would anyone bother with a J mod (JVX lineset) on the VX. What PD have just done by releasing the comp velo is matching what NZaerosports have been doing the whole time, giving an even playing field for all not just the sponsored pilots. The JSX will be like nothing we have seen before. dividing each cell into more parts.... The velo is still a 7 cell, a good canopy, but no JVX. formula 1 racing cars are way out of most peoples budget but they sell normal cars through being the best... the fastest... It is quite remarkable that the JVX has so many records etc as they have only been avalilable for a few years and a very small proportion of people use them compared to Velo's. 20. [reply>I want to hear more about the pulse. Brisker and more on-heading openings than the Stiletto. Other than that similar to the Stiletto - flat glide, short recovery arc, snappy turns. eeeeew! why would anyone want that? aside from the on heading part, the rest sounds like things we don't want from a canopy! 21. I was hoping this would be the illusive z brace technology that was being rumored a year or two ago, because then the Deadalus JSX may be released. but it seem PD still a little behind the eight ball! 22. ...and your source of sanity after 3pm, except for saturdays. I was there without a car for a month and will not likely be doing that again. How long will you be there for? I'm gonna be back there in late april. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  23. If only I had learned that the speakers corner is mostly these types earlier. Would have saved me alot of time. It has been an interesting and informative journey though... "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  24. That doesn't stop all you post whores from throwing your 2 cents in though eh? Congratulations on your 20,000th post. hows the jumping coming along? I am being hypocritical for even bothering with this but it had to be said. Repubicans is the best of them all, so descriptive. 25. i hadn't thought of that yet, the horror af all those lives, homes and farms now destroyed was enough to think about. Still quite a few fires burning too. The largest fire fighting helecopter in the southern hemisphere is on its way over from New Zealand as well as the Aus army, and the NZ army. With a bit of luck they'll get back on top of it before the next heat wave/north wester that has been predictied comes through.
