Well, the keynote is over and it was pretty much all iPhone.... which looks very cool but no light was shed on any of the MacBook related issues you were looking for help on. So, I guess the best advice is what stands on the MacRumors buyer's guide...it's a good time to buy because the line was just updated in November. No Leopard news, no iLife news. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Tom, Do you have any other rumor info?? -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Cool. How did you get in touch with them? If I'm going to be on your ash dive I must be suitably attired. I bought a couple of those for friends last year but didn't swoop one for myself and I would like to remedy that situation. Thanks, -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Cool. I hadn't seen that one referenced anywhere.....well in less than 24 hours we'll know

I watch a lot of Mac rumor sites and I've never seen one for a 13" MacBook Pro. Doesn't make sense to me as it seems they cut off the overlap they used to have between the consumer and pro lines when they introduced MacBook and MacBook Pro. Where did you see that rumor?? All of these laptops will connect to an external monitor...you just need the appropriate adapter....no docking station required. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

$575 for one gig of RAM is a a lot to ask IMHO. That is the current quote to upgrade a Macbook Pro from 2 gig to 3 gig. He was talking about the Black MacBook, (not the "Pro"). It comes with 1G standard, and cost $175 to upgrade to 2G when ordered. I think the upgrade to 3 gb is way too expensive. I'm sure that 2 gb will be fine. I've edited tons of video, etc on a now 4 1/2 year old iMac with 768 mb of ram. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

As noted by several people...wait until after Tuesday's Macworld keynote by Steve Jobs. If you take a look at macRumors' Buyer's Guide you will see that they say now is a good time to buy because the MacBooks were updated in November so there likely won't be new processors, etc for a while. But, I think you should wait until after MacWorld because the iLife suite will likely be updated so you want to be sure that the one you buy has the latest version of iLife (iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto). Otherwise, you will pay an extra 90 bucks I think it is to upgrade. The keynote speech will also give, I think, a release date for the next version of OS X, Leopard. If it is fairly soon you may want to wait so that you also get the latest OS and do not have to pay to upgrade that as well. Although, to this point in time there is NO copy protection on OS X. You can install it on as many computers as you want....no codes to enter....no checking to see if you have a legal version, etc. that you would have to go through with Windows. Who knows, this may change with Leopard but I don't think so....Apple makes its' money selling hardware. But, I throw that out as a reason for you to hang on at least a couple of days before buying. If you buy after the keynote from other than the Apple Store online, be sure that you are getting the software versions you should be getting. I just came into a few extra bucks and am going to pick up a Macbook as well...but not until after I see what Stevie-boy has to say Tuesday am. Edited to add: I use OS X Office all day, every day (Excel mostly) and it is great. You can buy a fairly inexpensive student version. The keynote may also have an update about how soon Microsoft's Mac Business Unit will be releasing the next version for the Mac. I don't expect it to be very soon....maybe this summer or fall. In the meantime, if you can find a friend with a present-day copy you may be able to use it as you can install it on 3 machines with no problems. Blue skies, Black Macs!!! Murray

Well, I searched around on the old computer and found out who I bought the t-shirt from....unfortunately, their website is no longer working. It was an outfit called Applied Deceleration. They are still listed in the dz.com rigging loft listings so if anybody can tell you anything about them or if they are still in business you may be able to track down a shirt. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

If the guy wearing that shirt was my old buddy Angus Smith, I bought that shirt for him from a skydiving dealer in the U.S. and had them mail it to him. I can't remember the name and Google isn't giving me any hints. If I come across some information, I'll let you know. Great shirt isn't it!! Depending on who the dive is for, I'd wear it. Like, if it was Angus doing my ash dive, I'd be hurt if he didn't wear it!! -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I wouldn't do anything until after Steve Jobs' keynote at MacWorld San Francisco on Tuesday January 9th....just in case he has some new iPod goodies hidden in the sleeve of his black turtleneck. I don't think anything new in the iPod line is expected but you never know...he's surprised the world many times before. I haven't seen a Zune in the flesh so don't know how it compares function wise to the iPods but I'll tell you one thing about it that would make me hesitate right off the bat....it is larger than the hard drive iPods. I have a 4 year old 2nd gen iPod and it feels like a brick compared to the new ones which are very nice and small. So, just the extra size would put me off. Our family also has a Nano and two 2nd gen Shuffles....and I have to say that the smaller the better is my preference. The little Shuffles are so handy to clip on your clothing. I'd say that unless you want tons of storage space or must be able to watch videos consider a Nano or Shuffle. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Canada beats the U.S. in the first semifinal game 3-2 in a shootout that went 8 rounds...talk about a nailbiter....until Carey Price finally closed the door on the U.S. This was a game that Canada was damn lucky to win imo. I thought the U.S. was a better team for most of the game but somehow my guys pulled it out. Gold medal game against Russia next...provided they hang on to their 4-1 lead over the Swedes, now in the 3rd period. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Round 2 Ortiz shoots but Liddell has none of it. The pace slows as both fighters start to pick their shots. Tito lands a right hand and a body kick. Ortiz tries another takedown but Liddell stops it easily. The crowd starts to chant “Ti-To! Ti-To!” Ortiz lands another straight right hand. Ortiz shoots and takes Liddell’s back. Chuck stands and elbows before he clinches. Good action through two rounds. 10-9 Ortiz. ----We might have a fight happening here----- -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

From mmaforum.com: Round 1 Tito throws a few low kicks and a straight right. Tito shoots for the first time in the bout. Liddell stuffs and backs away. Both fighters are showing good foot and head movement. Ortiz lands a right hand that backs Liddell up. Liddell lands a left hand that cuts Tito above the left eye. Chuck is picking up the pace. Liddell lands a heavy left hook that floors Ortiz. Liddell smells blood and jumps all over him. Referee Mario Yamasaki nearly steps in but Tito moves just in time. Chuck lets Tito up and finishes the round. 10-9 Liddell. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I wanna put music to the video. Got a favorite song for it? How about: You Keep Me Hangin' on Runnin' with the Devil Hang on Sloopy I think the perfect song is courtesy of the late John Entwistle of The Who. From his "Rigor Mortis Sets In" album, a song called "Do The Dangle"......here's the last verse: (J. entwistle) Track music, inc Well there's a brand new dance with a brand new angle It's the very last waltz and it's called the dangle You tie a rope round your neck and stand on a chair And you kick it away and your dancing on air Do the dangle baby Do the dangle baby Do the dangle baby Everybody get up and stand To the dangle baby To the dangle baby To the dangle baby Everybody get up and scream c'mon You know, I watched the video on CNN of the noose being placed around Saddam's neck and I felt some compassion for him. It's a hard thing to watch someone in their last moments of life. But, I also thought it fitting that he experience what he put so many people through. Interesting fact is that Apple had the bestselling laptops, desktops and mp3 players at Amazon.com over the Christmas season. I find it very interesting that they did so well in the desktop and laptop categories aginst Sony, HP, etc that Amazon also sells. Couture wants to come out of retirement to fight Tito again
murrays replied to GQ_jumper's topic in The Bonfire
There's a reason why athletes have to retire...You can't beat Father Time. Randy should stay retired IMO but I bet there is lots of cash on the table. If he does, I hope he doesn't get hurt. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey -
