I just checked it out for a few minutes....you can enable deinterlacing at 3 different levels of goodness. You can set how fast the ff and REW go through the disk..likely a few other things like that. When you go into full screen mode you get a bar across the top that appears when you move the mouse that allows you to select another chapter. Nice controls across the bottom when you move the mouse down there. That's about it from my 2 minutes look!! -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Marc, I got rid of the 3-d effect and glowing things under the icons in the dock by following this tip on TUAW. I much prefer it but I have NO idea what you do to reverse it..maybe do it again with boolean - No instead of yes?? It also replaces the black triangles with white dots. See screen capture attached.... And also a screen capture of my kids using iChat...I had to follow another tip to get the Star Wars hologram effect. Murray

I am SO glad I never had to do what is in that photo! The sight of that undiapered round just about to get to line stretch is pretty scary! Mark, you weren't alone in being a Mac geek on Friday....I was at my Mac Guy's place before 6. I am overall very happy with Leopard so far. I have installed it on my MacBook at home. I find Safari is much quicker to start. Mail is far more responsive. I don't care for the new Dock and found a way to get rid of it and use the same look that Leopard uses when the Dock is on the side of the screen. Time Machine works very slick. I deleted a file on my desktop on Saturday and went back on Sunday to restore it. Absolutely awesome how easy it works. I am also not sure if I think Stacks is an improvement or not. Once a couple of programs that I use extensively are updated to work with Leopard I will get a copy for my work machine. Time Machine is going to save my ass sometime in the future, of that I am certain. The new file viewer Quicklook is great. The Cover Flow in the Finder also is very slick and will also be useful at work. The updated DVD player is also supposed to work very well but I haven't had time to use it. The new iChat will also be awesome...remote desktop control/viewing will be awesome for helping out friends/family remotely. It is taking other developers some time to get everything upgraded to work properly with Leopard so be sure to chack that your important programs will work under Leopard before installing 10.5. Most things feel faster or no change....always nice when you upgrade your OS. So far, so good....I think it is worth getting. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Game 7...not even close! The Sox were an awesome team in their last 7 games. They did everything right, Francona made great moves and they deserve to be World Champions. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Youk sits out game 3: http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20071026&content_id=2283817&vkey=news_bos&fext=.jsp&c_id=bos I'm not surprised.....we'll see how it works out. I sure hope the Rockies can come back and take this to seven. Nothing like a tight Game 7 where every pitch counts. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Thanks, I think I got set up as root and I tried following VMWare's instructions to do the installation I wanted to do but I don't think anything happened. I was at a > prompt when typing in the various commands but I never got any response of any sort to anything I entered. My lack of familiarity with Ubuntu and Unix makes this very difficult. Thanks for taking the time to respond. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

So, I finally got Ubuntu 7.10 to install on my iMac using VMWare Fusion after trying unsuccessfully to use Parallels 3.0...appears there are some issues with the latest version of Ubuntu & Parallels that have yet to be ironed out. Interesting exercise so far. VMWare has a package called VMWare Tools that I have to install using Ubuntu in Terminal at the command line. I have to log in as root. I have been trying su - and then entering my password but it won't work. I have no idea what the root password is...don't remeber having to set one when I installed Ubuntu. Any idea on how to proceed? -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I wouldn't play Papi...Youkilis is hot with the bat right now and I don't think you should give up the defense that Lowell and Youkilis provide. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I hope you're right. Unfortunately for the Rockies, they are playing Boston when they have just become red hot. They have been on fire since game 5 of the ALCS. Pedroia, Youkilis, Papi, Ortiz....on fire! The rest of the lineup is also hitting pretty well. Even Lugo seems to be getting some hits the last 2 games. I still hope it winds up going 7. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

The issue of being able to control your camcorder but not being able to transfer video is one I also experienced with my HC-42. I can't remember what hoops I had to jump through to get it to work but check out the Apple Support forums. Are you still under warranty? If so, call tech support. I've been capturing all my old family video using iMovie 8 on my new Mac so haven't used iMovie HD on the old machine for quite some time and can't remember what I had to do...sorry. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I have to say that I think Matt Serra will lose to Hughes. I like Matt but think he got lucky against GSP. I don't think he'll get lucky twice in a row. Tim Sylvia. Unless he is pressed, he is boring to watch. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Another handy thing to have is a bootable Puppy Linux CD. It runs in RAM and doesn't need the hard drive. I have an old 233mhz --that's mhz --- HP laptop that I'd like to make usable ... without reinstalling WIN98 on it. Would puppylinux run on a machine with a processor this slow? Just so you know, I installed Ubuntu on it but it is so slow it is unusable. I only made one jump on a ropes and rings canopy (StratoCloud I think)and what I thought was funny was throwing out the pilot chute and then looking wa-a-a-a-y, w-a-a-a-a-y back behind you to see it at the end of the fully stretched out ropes. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I took my two sons, 7 & 9, and my wife to Disneyland last February. First time for any of us. I was doing it for the kids....but I had a great time, much better than I would have ever expected! I'm actually thinking of surprising them with another trip next spring. As previously mentioned, use the fast pass system to reduce your time in line on the popular rides. I loved the fireworks shows. Get there early and get a spot near the front of the castle. Have fun!!! -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Well, free if you want it free or you can pay whatever you feel is fair...entirely up to the buyer. No idea where the name came from. Maybe an acronym in Danish It was the first audible altimeter produced by Larssen & Brusgaard. I really didn't like the home plate umpire. Too much time delay when making a call. Even on balls and strikes....long wait for the arm to come up on a strike. I hope we don't see him working any playoff games. On the play at the plate, I thought he hadn't made an indication because the runner hadn't touched the plate and the catcher hadn't yet tagged him...in other words, if the catcher picked up the ball and tagged him before he touched the plate he was out....which is what the Padres catcher tried to do. I was surprised to see the umpire indicate he was safe after waiting several seconds doing nothing. The call should have been made immediately. I don't know that the runner didn't get a hand slightly under the catcher's left foot on the slide....it was really hard to tell from the replays that I saw....so we all have to live with the call made by the home plate umpire. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Well, if you're going to complain about calls, I think that the Rockies hit a homerun that the umps didn't see well enough to call. That would have resulted in the Rockies leading after 9 and no extra innings. Doesn't matter, it's over. That was an exciting ball game!!!! What a great finish to the season...Mets completing the collapse, the Phillies catching them, the Padres failing to close it out in 3 games. Trevor Hoffman blowing 2 saves. Good for the Rockies...they played fantastic down the stretch and I hope they can carry ttheir momentum into the playoffs. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Amazon.com has just activated its MP3 Downloads store. No DRM, 256 kbs bit rate in MP3 format so downloads will play on any players, great pricing - as in better than iTunes! Article by John Gruber on the store. (John is a Mac/Apple blogger so his article refers to OS X but rest assured, the store works on Windows as well) Much as I love Apple and iPods, it's great to see iTunes getting some competition from a company that "gets it". 2,000,000 songs available to start. Unfortunately, I can't use it as it is for US Residents only at the present time. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
