  1. The first few days are the toughest...so you're already past that. Congrats! To occupy myself and keep my hands busy I played Ms. Pacman for hours. Go for a walk, play video games, chew gum...develop new habits to replace the old one that leaves you at loose ends. Hang in there! -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  2. I'm coming up on 24 years cigarette free (May 3, 1983 is my quit date). I went cold turkey and it was hell for quite a long time...but it gets easier...so hang in there!!!!! One thing that I used to do was abit of a mind game but it helped me when I was really having a nicotine fit and about to ask a co-worker for a cigarette.....I would quit for 10 seconds. I would take deep breaths, just like taking a long deep drag on a smoke and count to ten. I don't know if it was the deep breathing or what but it would get me over the hump at that moment. I couldn't conceive of not smoking for 20 years or 20 weks or 20 days or even a full day but I could manage ten minutes and sometmes 10 seconds. The old AA saying is "One day at a Time". For cigarettes I think it should be "One Minute at a Time" Good luck all of you that are fighting this addiction. You can DO IT!! And it's one of th best things you will ever do for yourself and those around you. Blue skies, Murray
  3. I agree with you completely Jack. Unfortunately, I think seeing this video will encourage others. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  4. I'm pissed that they put that Dana/Tito thing on the air....what a waste of 1 1/2 hours. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  5. Apple announced FCS2 at the NAB...in addition to upgrades to existing programs there are two new ones..Final Cut Server and Color. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

  7. Buffalo will go home.... but not until they have won 16 in the playoffs Wild one tonight between the Sharks and Predators...those guys have got a hate on for each other. It's going to be a good series. Andrew - Luongo didn't do any game stealing tonight...Turco was the man who made all the stops. I don't know if Vancouver can get past Dallas....I don't think they have enough grit. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  8. Get used to it. Hell of a first playoff performance, there's no doubt about that. This is what Luongo has been wanting so we'll see how far the Canucks go. Detroit looked like they were on a mission...I don't think they are going to fold early this year. Buffalo looked like a million bucks. Ryan Smyth looked right at home in an Islanders uniform...the Isles' white road uniforms are so similar to the Oilers' jerseys I did a couple of double takes. I don't think he'll see the second round though. Which reminds me...time to back up this laptop and head for home...there are games on right now. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  9. Yes ... I am ... Is there another moon in the sky? I'm shocked. I'm cheering for the Sabres, Stars, Flames and Sharks....cuz I know players and a coach on those teams so I'd like to see them have good postseasons. It would be very cool to see one of them hoisting the Cup! I thought the Senators looked like a team with something to prove for most of the game last night...until they let the Pens get a couple...then they started looking like the chokers of yore. The Stars looked good in the third and overtime...Luongo won that game for the Canucks....71 saves was it? 1 short of Kelly Hrudy's record. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  10. Interesting first night of the 2007 Stanley Cup Playoffs! Vancouver/Dallas just ended (1:35 am my time) with a couple minutes left in the FOURTH overtime period. Vancouver won on a pretty passing play by the Sedins. San Jose won in OT over Nashville but have lost Cheechoo for an undetermined period of time. Senators beat the Penguins 6-3 as Fleury looked a bit over anxious in the net for the Pens. Ducks beat the Wild 2-1. 'Shell - who you cheering for now? The Flames? 11. The Cobra 10 is definitely atop the list for me. I put about 65 jumps on mine ... hard openings that made it difficult to get out of bed the next day ... and it exploded about 5 jumps after I sold it. (It was built by National, not Paraflite) The next ones would be the Turbo Z by Paraflite...one jump was enough and the Swift 5cell main ..instant opening and very poor flare. Interestingly enough I had a Swift reserve that I jumped and loved the landing. I have to laugh when I see people listing Fury canopies on here. I bought the Fury's predecessor, the Pegasus, to replace the Cobra 10 and thought I'd died and gone to heaven when I was jumping the Pegasus...it was so much better than anything I'd jumped previous to that point in time....7TU C-9, T-10, Paracommander, Papillon, Cloud (1 jump-first square jump), Cobra 10. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  12. Re the price point....I saw a post somewhere after the 8 core was announced comparing adecked out MacPro to a similarly equipped Dell...not much difference. The macpro was a bit more expensive but had more storage and a couple of other marginal extras. Looked like a dead heat. But, in both instances, you could buy a nice car for the price. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

  20. These fights are scored on the 10 point must system... round winner gets 10, loser gets 9 unless .... I don't know the exact rules for having a point deducted but...I think the only time I have seen less than a 9 was when there was a foul during the round or if the fighter was really backpedaling and not standing and fighting....and I think it was David Loiseau against Rich Franklin where I saw that happen. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  21. Many thanks to everybody for the hints and suggestions
  22. Nick, You brought back a lot of memories for me....I still remember getting used tubes from my friend's Dad, who repaired TVs, to play with...they looked so cool...we used to pretend they were rockets and spaceships. Later, in about 1970 I worked at a TV repair place for a little while pulling tubes out of TVs, putting them in a tester, turning dials, looking up things in a book, etc, etc. But, the most fun was clipping an alligator clip to a screwdriver and the other end to the chassis and then sticking the screwdriver under the insulated plug that connected to the picture tube in order to get rid of the charge in the picture tube so that you could work on it....ZZZZAAAPPP!! Then, along came transistors and those incredible integrated circuit thingies...no repairing them, just through the whole board out. 23. We are leaving for SoCal on Wednesday AM. The main purpose of our trip is to take our two sons, ages 7 & 9 to Disneyland. What are the must-see and do things for boys this age at Disneyland? -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
  24. I recently started downloading music from eMusic and have to say I appreciate the higher bit rates they use and the low prices....30 songs a month for $14.99 (Canadian $$). I don't like the eMusic website as much as I like the iTunes store...which I credit for rekindling my interest in music over the last couple of years. I still download the occasional song from iTunes and have downloaded about 300 songs from there previously but I tend to buy the CD if I can buy it for a price that is not too much higher than the digital version. I like having the original so that I can rip it at whatever bit rate I want. It will be interesting to see what develops in the DRM area. Steve Jobs certainly stirred the pot with his recent "Thoughts on Music". -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
