I just got a new 20" brushed aluminum iMac at work. Due to the fact that I need Windows to run tax preparation programs I bought a copy of XP Home and Parallels so that I can get rid of the old Toshiba laptop I have been using. It took a while to sort out the file sharing and printing but I have to say I am thrilled with the result!!

Does the iPod have a dock connector? If it is an old 20gb like mine then it may even need Firewire 6 pin to 6 pin cables and a Firewire port on your computer. If it has a dock connector then you need the dock to USB cable. If you don't want to shell out for the charger it will charge while plugged into a computer that isn't in sleep mode as long as it is plugged into a powered USB port. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Very nice to see Tom Glavine reach this milestone. He is only the 23rd pitcher to get to 300 wins. Especially when he is a pitcher that has won with his head...changing speeds, hitting spots, putting the ball in play....and not because he has incredible physical ability like Roger Clemens and the ability to blow the ball past people when need be. My hat's off to him. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Thanks Lisa and Maura...for your helpful responses. Cheers, Murray

Neither I nor my sons, ages 8 & 10, have ready any of the previous HP books. Is there any point in buying this one to read...would it stand on its own or do you need the background of the previous books? -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

In all the time I was at Z'hills I never heard that one. The Gulch maybe? Hoop There was a bird bath made from a crater in Perris. If you do a search on "bird bath crater" you'll be directed to the "Scary Stories From the Old days" thread and some posts by myself and "Skybill". -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Hi Guy, Just thinking about this some more...was "Let's Be Careful Out There" on a mural that Dave Rickerby painted in the back of a DC-3? Southern Cross? Anybody know? Murrrr

I was a father when I started jumping. However, his mother and I were separated and later divorced. Much later...17 years later I became a father again after remarrying. I continued to skydive. Tried to be more conservative in many areas already suggested by previous posters. Then, in 2005 my second wife was diagnosed with leukemia, a type with a very poor long-term prognosis. I haven't jumped since. Despite never being injured beyond a few bumps and scrapes in 25 years of jumping I know very well that good safety record can change dramatically on any jump. I won't take the chance on leaving my kids orphans (they are 8 & 9 years old right now) at some point in the future just so I can get my rocks off jumping. We don't really have family available to raise them if something happens to both of us so I have removed the risk of skydiving from the equation. I plan to jump again when my kids are older...but I'll likely be over 65 by the time that happens. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Was it Nate Quarry the guy you are referring to? I'm glad to hear it was a good stoppage. I don't very often buy the PPV but I enjoyed the fights last night. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Question for you....I thought the Silva/Marquardt fight was stopped a little quickly. Was it? -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I can understand Herring's reluctance but Nogueira was rocked. Hard to deviate from your game plan but it certainly was a golden opportunity. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

The knee at the beginning of the second was almost a game-winner for Franca. His follow-up right glanced off Sherk's shoulder and missed. I thought Sherk was one stiff shot from losing at that moment. What a relentless strong dude Sherk is!! Wow! I liked the first PPV fight Noguiera/Herring. Herring let him get away at the end of the first after landing the kick to the head. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Lori, You're just waiting for one you can edit video on Who knows what Apple has in the product pipeline...I wouldn't expect major changes to this one but I would expect more capabilities to be added via firmware/software upgrades. what those would be I don't know. I do think, as mentioned earlier, there are a couple of other iPod/Wifi/Phone combos they could release. So, did the iPhone work as you expected? Was using the interface quick and responsive? -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I paid $799 Canadian for my first iPod - a 2nd gen 20 gig model - so $599 for an iPhone that does all sorts of stuff doesn't really seem so bad. It's all relative. But, on the contract front, I see that DVD Jon claims to have hacked the iPhone so that a person can buy one and use it without activating it and getting tied into a contract with AT&T. This also would enable people who aren't in the US to use an iPhone on wi-fi. I'd love one of these things to be able to check e-mail, etc using wi-fi. I'm not interested in using it as a phone. The cheap little Motorola T720 I use is fine as a phone, calendar and address book. Am I willing to pay $700 Canadian after taxes, etc? No. But i'd pay$350-400. So, I am waiting for Apple to come out with the iPod that does wi-fi but doesn't do the cel phone thing. I'd also really dig it if they came out with one that had an iSight webcam and iChat application so that I could video chat using it on wi-fi. I think that some interesting stuff will be available for the comng Christmas shopping season. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I seem to recall Robin Heid having something to do with that one. Maybe just the marketing. kevin I'm guessing that might have been a Rickerby shirt. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I can still remember the day I was sitting in my office looking at stock prices for Apple. I figured they were in the toilet, so I did not invest. What regret. The stock price that day was $4.70 per share. If it's any consolation, you have company. I looked hard about 5 years ago when they were basically priced at the cash value per share price was about $6.50 adjusted for the split that happened a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, my memories of the tech crash were way too fresh and I couldn't pull the trigger. But, enough of my tales of woe...has anybody bought an iPhone? Impressions?? -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I was 15 years old. Kicked out of school at easter for the remainder of the year for having long hair and being too "disruptive". Bought Sgt. Pepper in monaural lp format. Never heard it in stereo until a couple years ago when I finally bought it on a CD. Awesome album. Somewhere I came across this listing of the original order of tracks which differs slightly from the order on the album. Don't know why it was changed. I have it set up as a playlist in iTunes... Hi, This is non-skydiving related but I just had a friend give me one of those small DVD-RW disks from a Sony DVD100 Camcorder to see if I could make copies for him. When I put the disk into my old imac at home it tells me I have inserted a blank dvd disk and asks what I want to do. When I put it into my fairly new Sony DVD player it tells me it cannot play the disk. Do these disks need to be "finalized" before anything else will recognize them as having data in DVD format? I am sure that if they get recognized by my Mac as a DVD I should be able to create a disk image using Disk Utility and then burn as many copies as he wants. Tips/Suggestions/Advice greatly appreciated. Blue skies, Murray

I think this is what it means.... -215 means you have to pay 215 dollars to have a chance to win your money back plus 100 bucks if Chuck wins +215 means that you pay 100 dollars to get your 100 bucks plus 215 dollars if Rampage wins Chuck was the big favourite. Too bad you didn't aly some $$ down you'd have more than doubled your money!! -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

US manufactured stuff shouldn't attract duty but GST/HST/PST is another story. DO NOT USE UPS. Use either US Postal Service or Fedex Priority. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Have you used any of the data sorting/analysis features of Excel? If you are using lists you can sort and do all kinds of cool stuff. Organizing by training phase sounds like a perfect use....if you have columns like this...Name, Training Status, Study Phase you can have the rows sorted by say study phase first, then Name or Study Phase, then Training Status, etc, etc. If you use advanced filters you can do much more than that. Tallying error codes...use countif perhaps? I work in Excel every day and do some things that I think are pretty cool but I am just scratching the surface. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Unfortunately, I do have a horror story. Three years ago the bank business manager in charge of our account, a terrific woman ~ 40 years old in excellent health, went in to have a knee done arthroscopically on a Friday afternoon. She died on Saturday. Apparently, a blood clot migrated to her lung and it wound up killing her. She complained of discomfort during the day Saturday but decided to tough it out. When she went in it was too late. My sister-in-law was one of the ER nurses that worked on her and she told me she would have been fine if she had come in even a couple of hours later. So, if you are having anything happening out of the ordinary get to a hospital! -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

It is the exact opposite of creative accounting. Being creative requires good technical knowledge. Knowledge of accounting standards and applying them to a situation is using technical knowledge. Accounting isn't as black and white as is commonly thought. Knowledge of the technical standards and applying them to gray areas correctly is a difficult thing to do at times. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
