  1. What lines are you more likely to get a lineover with (all things being equal)? A-D, steering? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  2. We're in Oz narcimund. It works out to be about the same price... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  3. That makes sense to me. That and the fact that once the container is open, you have the closing flaps to snag on (as has been mentioned) -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  4. or do what I do. Glasses and overgoggles, though that is starting to get a bit tiresome. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  5. This is similar to what I face. I'm about 165ish out the door, and the only stuff I've jumped so far are student canopies (270s) and old(er) F-111 canopies (170, 195). I jumped a brand new Safire 180 last weekend, and it was easy to fly. Demo gear is non-existant, and I want to try things out before committing to anything, but the option basically isn't there. One of my instructors has offered to let me try his Sabre 135, that he's thinking of selling, but all the other rigs have mains that I can't jump (Crossfires, and 120s, 109s...) so I'm sort of between a rock and a hard place. I think that what I'll do is try the 135, and I think there is another jumper with a 149, I'll see if I can jump that, and see where things go from there... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  6. Was that Stacey? Is your script for long or short sight? (I can't decipher scripts) Have you tried looking at the Mongoose goggles from totalcontrol? (http://www.totalcontrol.com.au/goggles.htm#mongoose) I'm pretty short sighted, and my last script for my sunglasses could just slip into those frames. Give Richie a call and see if you can borrow a pair to see if they'll work. I borrowed a pair of Inversion's to try, and Stacey said he couldn't do them for me, so I'm going to see what he can do with the Mongooses... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  7. That they are! She made me a pair of pants that I took for a ride on the weekend. They didn't blow up, so thats one point in her favour. ;) -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  8. me too. Are they green ribs throughout? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  9. 1:5:1 1: First jump with my new A licence! 5: I did three b-rel jumps this weekend. I'm now finished with those! All I have to do now is the accuracy requirements, and I'm qualified for my B licence. First B-rel was grip changing. Compressed accordian to catepillar, to opposite compressed, to opposite catepillar, turn to face off. I floated on the first point, and took a bit of time coming down again. After that, I cranked through it. Got my face off at 4k, break off altitude. Turn and track. Dumped lowwer than usual. Was in the saddle my about 18, 1900. Crab my canopy in for a standup, ~20m from target. Second b-rel was fairly complex (for me). Sideshot monopole, outside turn to opposite offset pin. Inside turn to stairstep, outside turn to sideshot, instructor to turn to face off, I turn to outfacing dock. I got through to the turn to sideshot. I did an upper body turn and sunk out a lot, and couldn't get back up in time. Break off at 4.5. Nice landing again. One interesting thing that happened, was that on the first point, I went low, and under my instructor. As I moved out from under him, he fell through my burble and straight into position for the monopole. A perfect vertical transition! Last b-rel. Fly around the formation. Face off, then an outside turn to sideshot, because I missed this turn on my last jump. Around to catepillar, around to opposite sideshot. Sunk out on this turn, but got back up. Around to face off by 5k! Break off, and a nice long track. Dumped at 3, and backed my canopy in all the way. I had my pilotchute wrapped around one of the steering lines right up at the canopy. It frightened me when I first saw it, but it didn't impede any of my control checks, and didn't move, so I just flew it in. Did one solo from 10 with my new freefly pants. I just cranked up some leg turns. Made myself dizzy. I had to delta to get out of them. One H'n'P from 5 with a different canopy. A brand new (~60 jumps) Safire 180. 'Twas a very nice canopy. It opened nice (my first ZP pack). Good with front risers, you could see the increased speed with double fronts. I needed it to avoid backing over the runway. Stall point was just above full arm extension. Landed it tippy toes. 1: carton for my A licence. Bought and drunk. A very nice weekend. edit: Just like my logbook entries, I wrote a novel! -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  10. I'm in the market for my first rig, and we were discussing different containers after we finished jumping on Sunday. One of my instructors jumps a Jav, and he said that he wouldn't mind a look at the new Jav (Odessey), and I remarked that the cut-in backpad should make it quite comfortable. Another instructor hadn't heard of the cut-in backpad, and when I explained it to him, his first reaction was that it was a snag hazard. How realistic is his reaction? What is the likelyhood of getting anything snagged there? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  11. This is what the APF has to say on the matter: OpRegs: SECTION 3 - CERTIFICATES AND LICENCES 3.1.2. Only parachute descents logged as required by 7.1 shall be accepted as evidence for issue of APF Parachutist Certificates, Sporting Licences, APF Display Licences and Display Organiser Licences. SECTION 7 - RECORDS 7.1. PARACHUTIST'S LOG 7.1.1. All parachutists will keep a log of their descents. The log entry for each descent made by a student parachutist shall be signed in accordance with 6.1.9. 7.1.2. The log shall contain the type of parachute descent, the date on which the descent was made, the location of the DZ, the exit height, the free fall time in seconds, the distance landed from the target centre and the type and registration of the aircraft. 7.1.3. Where the parachutist’s log is used as evidence for an application for the issue or revalidation of a Parachutist Certificate, licence or rating, verification of the log may be required by any of the persons required to authorise its issue or revalidation. Legal certification may be accepted where log is lost. See also 3.1.2. (my highlighting) SECTION 6 - TRAINING REQUIREMENTS 6.1.9. The jumpmaster or DZSO shall make appropriate remarks in each student parachutist's log and authenticate the descent by signing the entry. . Basically, Students (ie before A licence) need their instructor to sign their logbook. After that, you can get any licenced parachutist to sign. Verification is getting someone else to sign. It removes all (most?) doubt as to the achievements of each jump. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  12. Cool. Thats pretty much what I invisenged (sp?). How do you keep it stuck out to keep the slider down? Do you double the material over to force it out? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  13. I've heard of this before, and it seems like a good idea to me. Would you be able to post some pics of them? Cheers Matthew -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  17. It's something you play on a piano... :) . But seriously, it's a pull up cord. You use it to close the flaps on you container. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  18. Cool Thanks. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  19. Thanks for that reply Mick. It's a 98 Woomera that I'm looking at. I've emailed the guy, just waiting for a reply. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  23. Just a follow up to security at home... What do you do about security at the DZ? At my DZ, it's not really a problem, as we're a single cessna DZ, and there aren't too many people around at once... But what about places like Perris, we there are slightly more? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  24. Thissort of thing has happened before... There was a fatality a while ago in Australia where a student pulled their SOS handle just enough to disengage the main, but not to deploy the reserve. The student was told to use the 'yellow' toggles to steer the parachute. The SOS handle is also yellow. The investigation concluded that the student confused the SOS handle and the toggles, and pulled the hande, thinking that it would steer the parachute. Now, all student rigs must have blue toggles. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  25. Does anyone have any pics of a Woomera? I would just like to know what they look like. It's currently an option for my first rig (second hand) -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
