  1. Out of a total of about 20 jumps, about 4 of mine have been off DZ. A couple of those I though that I might be able to make it back, but as my instructors say 'A long walk is better than a short crawl' -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  2. What are the rules regarding the rigs you can jump in the US? In Oz, if you're a student (ie haven't got your A licence), then you have to jump student gear; ripcord, SOS handle etc... Once you've got your A licence, then you can get your own rig, and at the moment we have to have an AAD until we get our D licence (200 jumps) -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  3. SOS: Single Operating System You've got just one bright yellow handle. You pull this and you release the main and deploy the reserve. In Australia, it's compulsory for all student rigs. The idea behind it is that students have less to think about. We already have quite a bit on our plates PS: I'm still a student, ~20 jumps. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  4. I think I've had one non-solo dive (I'm on the static line table), and that was because my instructor came out with me just to have a look at me. Not that I've had a chance to try anything yet, I'm just trying to pass the training. I don't know what I'll do for my first jump after graduating. That said, just falling and looking and not having to worry about having to do anything sounds ok to me :) -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  5. Sounds good. I'm on the static line progression table, and I had problems with exiting stable. I have no problems regaining stability, its just leaving stable. My CI just changed my exit from poised on the strut, to a dive exit. I was stuck on the delta posn as I couldn't get stable fast enough to complete the stage. After the dive exit, I got it don in two jumps. Once I get the box position hardwired, I'll go back to a poised exit and see if I can get it to work. I'll have no trouble doing my backloops, as I have done a couple already on my exits; I didn't arch soon enough, and I rolled over. I regained stability straight afterwards though. Its fun :) -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
