I've got all that. Now that you've given me some more info, I can specify my question better. You've drawn B-1-C-21. How do you transition from the stairstep to the snowflake? Going from SF->OS is specified, then how do you transition from offset to the murphy? Does everyone try to get to their positions by the shortest route? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

unless you deliberately make two or more 1st's on one jump. Then you owe a carton for each 1st. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

I've got that bit. How do you go to your next formation? Do you just make it up, or is there a set way? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

How do you read the block tables? I'm at a loss as to how it all works... I'm guessing that if you draw #1 (as from Omniskore), you go from a snowflake, through the inter, to a sidebody. But then how do you go to your next formation? This has been bugging me for a while.... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

My DZ doesn't offer discounts (as far as I know). It is a small operation, ands it's probably not an option. However, I did find this: Skydive Express in York (Australia): Jumps $31 to 12,000 or books of ten for $295 Sydney Skydiving Center Jump tickets prices: $35 to 13,500ft - Weekends $35 to 13,500ft - Mon-Fri $30 - In lots of 10 tickets That was on their websites. I had a look at some others in Australia, but couldn't find any other references. That's not to say they don't do it... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

HMA lines- history of snapping without warning?
masher replied to dbattman's topic in Gear and Rigging
Just wondering... Would it be possible to 'pre-jump' the lines. Stretch them, or shrink them, so they don't do it (as much) on your canopy? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies -

Because packing in the USA is regulated by the Federal Government via the FAA, not the USPA. This is why, in the BSR's, you only see refenences to packing you main canopy, not others. ok why does it come under the jurisdiction of the FAA? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

In Australia, to get your A licence, you have to have you CI's approval to pack a main parachute for yourself, or a licenced skydiver. The CI writes his approval in your log book, and also notes to which canopies the approval relates. That is, you can pack parachutes for anyone with a licence (ie not students). Then we have the Packer B rating: "The privileges of Packer "B" shall be to inspect, pack and carry out daily maintenance on main parachutes with which he is familiar and competent." OpReg 10.4.1 Packer A: The privileges of a Packer "A" shall be: (a) To exercise the privileges of a Packer "B"; (b) To inspect, pack, certify as airworthy and carry out daily maintenance on reserve and emergency parachutes with which he/she is familiar and competent. OpReg 10.4.2 And finally, there is the rigger: The privileges of a Rigger shall be: (a) To exercise the privileges of a Packer “A”; (b) To carry out canopy repairs provided the repair does not include any design alteration; (c) To carry out modifications or approved alterations to approved specifications; (d) To manufacture non-certified parachute parts, and, if a CASA certificate of approval is held, to manufacture certified parachute parts in accordance with the manufacturer’s specification. OpReg 11.2.1 Why doesn't the USPA have similar ratings? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

I would love to rock up to Ramblers, only it's about a 3-5 day commute, or an 8 hr plane trip. I'm going to my DZ this weekend, and I'll be discussing it with my instructors down there. I'm probably leaning towards Airsuits atm, but I'm open to discussion... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

who are you looking at getting your rel suit from? I'm looking at RMW and Airsuits, with Tads coming in third in my consideration... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

One thing that you have to do for your B licence, which I haven't seen in the USPA licences, is you have to complete the B-rel table This table consists of 10 stages which teach you how to fly around. You have to do: Level 1: 1. Spotting 2. Height awareness 3. General freefall 4. Tracking Level 2: 1. Consolidation of pinning. 2. Tension awareness between grips. 3. Turning on the spot. Level 3: 1. For the novice to use the background and peripheral vision as an aid to freefall perception. 2. For the novice to fly to a given position and remain there without relying on grips. Level 4: To teach the novice to fly to a side dock within a formation. Level 5: 1. Side shot monopoles. 2. An extension of Skill Level 4. Level 6: 1. Dock in out-facing position. 2. An extension of previous skill levels. Level 7: For the novice to learn to fly from one point to another within a formation, mostly by grip changing. Level 8: 1. To introduce the novice to sequential manoeuvring. 2. Outside turns are used to teach the novice to remain on their own column of air while turning away from the formation. 3. To demonstrate the flow of the dive to the novice. Level 9: To teach novice to fly to different points of a formation while maintaining relative height. Level 10: (3 x 4 ways) 1. To teach the novice how to organise a dive. 2. To familiarise the novice with flying relative with more than one other person. 3. To be used as a starting point to larger formations. Is there anything like this for the USPA licences? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

mmm I'm not an instructor, or even A licensed yet, but that seems a little, mmm, different. A student jumping camera? I wouldn't have thought that would be a good idea. Esp. considering the extra dangers associated with that. Jumping when drunk? mmm Starting CRW at 2k? I'd be breaking off at that altitude... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Last weekend when I went down to the DZ is was blowing 20kn consistantly. On the ground. That day we just sent up tandems. Did about 3 loads I think. One the first load, we had one experienced jumper go up (1000+). I was watching him under canopy and he was hooking along. It must have been 20-30 kn at altitude. I go backwards in 15 kn winds. I have landed off a couple of times due to wind. 1st time was when I had about 10ish jumps. Landed backwards in a paddock about 800m away. 2nd time I opened downwind. I don't know how that happened, everyone else opened ok. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

I've heard stories of AFF grads going white on their grad jump. "What jump from 4k? I should be open at 4k!" ;) . I'm jumping with a chest mounted ripcord. The count for me was "Arch, look, grip, pull" The "Look" bit consisted of just moving your head. I had no problems with that. It just took me about 10 jumps to get my exit stable. 2 jumps to go! then I'm off student status :) -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

I've just got that book. I'm going to start reading it over the holidays. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

w007 for you. Just remember to keep arching on your next exit. It took me about 10 exits to get my exit stable. After that, I cranked through the levels. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
-
I know that. I did S/L. What I was suggesting was to go back a stage. Just do an exit. Not havig to worry about a DRP, just concentrate on keeping the arms/hands away from the risers. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
-
How about just doing exits with no DRP? Just arch and let the plane do the work. Keep in the arch, and stay there. This should get you over the "must reach for risers" thing. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

God said beware of false prophets to test our faith. That is why. I think.. Rhino And what do all the Hindus and Buddhists think? Do they think that Jesus is a false prophet? . This question is two sided. One is genuine interest, and the other is looking at Rhino's reasoning. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
