Assuming ideal conditions.... Perfect canopy, perfect body position, even harness/risers, correct brake settings, straight wind (no eddies, turbulance) etc The canopy won't turn. It will crab in whatever direction the wind is blowing, assuming it's not directly in front or behind. To induce a turn you need uneven inputs to each side of the canopy, which is what you do when you pull down on a toggle. Back to real world conditions... anything is possible. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

We've got the same sort of laws here. In WA, you need to keep left if the speed limit is above 80, otherwise you can get booked... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

We had Mr Gath and his two sons at our DZ the other day. They came to do a tandem each. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

About a second and a half after you let go! As long as your static line is attached, you're going to have a canopy, or you'll still be under the plane in a hangup. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Whiteboard markers? You might want to check up on the solvent used though... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Parachutes Australia offer it as standard on their new Talons. I like the idea, but I don't really know, I haven't been around long enough... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

One of my instructors has a Sabre. He doesn't roll the nose, but he does push it a long way towards the back when he packs it. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

I like doing S/L jumps. At my DZ, before we send up any new students, we do a canopy control demonstration, showing the newbies what's going to happen once they're in the air. I've done a couple of these. You just let go, arch and wait. It's fun. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Come to Australia. You only have to be 14 to do a tandem. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

I've got two offices! A cubicle thingo when I'm doing my PhD work, and an office downstairs when I working as a research assistant. Upstairs I have lots of paper and stuff to read. It's quite messy at the moment. Downstairs. It's neat. It has to be, because other people use it too. I've got liquid nitrogen! I've got a 30 kV electron microscope! I've got vacuum chambers! If you want something gold coated, or carbon coated, I'm your man... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

I'm currently listening to Tubular Bells I, II & III, by Mike Oldfield. After that, I'm going to put on all of my Jean Michel Jarre tracks. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

How does the cable actually connect with the protrack? I had a look at one on the weekend, and I couldn't see any exterior holes or anything on the protrack, so I'm wondering where/how the cable attaches to the protrack. Does anyone have any pics or something? I've looked at the L&B website, and I couldn't find any real information about that. The reasoning behind this question is that I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to have a mount on your helmet that allowed you to download data withour having to take the protrack off your helmet. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

1:2:0 Blood nose in free fall. Blood makes funny patterns over your face and goggles.... Solo, and a b-rel 10. Free build 4-way. Got it done with 200' to go. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

One of my friends had to go to the US for a semester while her parents where on a sabatical over there. One of the kids in her school asked her if she could speak without an accent. She just had a WTF? moment, and said, "Can you speak without one?", he said "I don't have one!" classic... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Yea and you go to Austraila and they spell tire: tyre, and color: colour. and sooo many more. Yep. We spell things the correct way. Like gaol, and honour, and caesium, to name but a few. . Now we can start to debate about tautologies, oxymorons and pleonasms too. . That said, there's another one for you: to, two and too... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

I was refering to more canopy time when you are 'formally' a student, ie haven't finished your training table. For Australia, AFF and S/L are both 9 stages, but S/L has 17 jumps and AFF only has 9. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Yeah. In my 4way there was me with 55 jumps. One instructor with 1200, another instructor with ~2000 and another instructor with ~3000. All I had to worry about was me! Makes life a bit easier. edit:Oh yeah, and it counts towards my B-rel 10 too... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Did my first fourway on the weekend. It was the last load too, we landed in the (semi) darkness. Launch from the Islander to a roundie, to a zigzag, back to a roundie, and into the opposite zigzag back to a roundie. Break off at 5k, cause we drifted in the uppers. Capped off a very nice day. I did (and passed) 4 B-rel jumps, and did a solo, then to the 4way. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
