  2. Try and find refs that you lecturer has written. That should get you brownie points! -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  3. If you have to cite every sentence, then where's the original thought that you've put into the subject? oh well, pander to your lecturer, they're marking you... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  4. Thanks. Most of our degrees are 3 yrs (extra yr for honours). Engineering degress are 4 yrs (honours included), double degrees are 5. No names for each year. I went straight through my undergrad degree. Didn't fail anything -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  5. I've read it again, and I quite like it. The good thing about it is that you kept it practical. You gave examples to illustrate what you were talking about, and you used analogy to help the reader picture a (possibly) unfamiliar senario (dropping knees -> using flap). In any (some?) scientific paper, you run the risk of getting bogged down in the maths. In your paper you had just enough to explain what you were talking about and used real life examples to show how fast and much things happen (8s = Sears tower, PC= 134 lb drag) You were right about Benoulli. To start talking about principles of lift would require a great deal of maths and quite a bit of fluid physics. Then you might even want to venture into the Benoulli v Newton debate on the source of lift, but thats probably another paper again. . My questions above are serious. I have never really comprehended the American system of senior years and sophmores and freshmen.... Over here it's first years for people in first year, third years for people in third yr. Honours for honours (for university anyway, but highschool isonly slightly different). -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  6. So this is your exposure to real science??? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  7. More americanisms... Senior year? Is that like the 3rd year of a 3 year university course? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  8. Whoops, I thought you said first.... What year are you in? Is this a highschool thing, university thing? Please excuse my ignorance, but I don't have much knowledge of the American (?) education system. . Not too bad. There are a few areas that I would improve upon, but it all depends on what/who the paper is for. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  9. Don't worry, I had no idea until I was told, it's not all that intuitive. As above, left/right 360 turn. Stop on heading. right/left 360 turn. Stop on heading. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  10. I could do a F111 canopy in about 10-15. Now I've got my own gear with a pretty new ZP canopy. The first time I packed it it took me about 3 hours on and off. I probably started packing it about 8-9 times. Now it's down to about 25-30 minutesish. Packing experience: ~100 F111 student/sports packs ~6 ZP -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  11. Just on that, do you have to nominate your landings? I'm aiming to do the requirements for my B and C at the same time. Our landing requirements are: A: Have made at least 10 descents landing within 25 metres of the target centre, these landings being made unassisted by a Target Assistant. B: Have made 7 consecutively nominated descents landing within 25 metres of the target centre. C: Have made at least 20 descents landing within 10 metres of the target centre; and Have completed 5 consecutively nominated descents landing within 20 metres of the target disc. D: Have made at least 20 descents landing within 5 metres of the target centre. E: Have made at least 20 descents landing within 1 metre of the target centre. F: Have made at least 20 descents landing within 0.5 metre of the target centre; and Have completed 20 consecutively nominated descents landing within 5 metres of the target disc -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  12. The rings used by Mirage are different too, I think. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  13. This weekend I came into uni and did some work. I managed to get some loss-on-drying samples to actually gain weight! I'm redoing thise samples... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  14. Thats a fairly convoluted scheme. But at least you get to do night jumps. Our DZ isn't allowed to do them: Council regulations say no. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  15. I'm just the messenger. I did email them, just then. I'll let you know how things go. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  17. total control They have a BB where you can post your request, or look at other gear that is for sale. Remember that the prices are in AU$. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  18. The following extract is from APF Newsheet 140. I don't know if anyone else has heard about this, but I thought I would put it out there. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  19. Thats what I would do. I wouldn't get finance throught the place where I was buying something. They want you to take it because that is where they make more money. I was just pointing out that Mirage isn't alone. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  20. I work from the top down. I check pins before I put on the rig. Then after its on: Helmet, goggles, alti. Three rings. Routed correctly. Chest strap: I pull on it to make sure it won't slip Cutaway: check that the velcro is velcroed Reserve: Check that the velcro is velcroed and that the spare cable is free BOC: check that the handle is free Leg straps: tight and the ends are stowed. This is in addition to checking 3rings, handles and stuff when the rig is on the ground (not on me). -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  21. I don't have much idea about current interest rates, but I would guess that they would be different between countries... edit: Bankwest AU$5k min personal loan. Secured: 9%, unsecured 11% ANZ AU$5k min personal loan. 11-12% Total Control: AU$3k min loan. 9-11% . It's what you'd pay anyway... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  22. static line jumps are fun. If I'm at the DZ when they have some new S/L students, they sometimes get me to do the canopy control demonstration. Up I go and do a S/L jump and get talked down by radio. It's all good.
  23. Update: I bought the Racer. Before I bought it I took it to a rigger to have it checked out. He said that the rig would last me for years. He replaced the velcro on the riser covers, converted it to BOC and installed soft links. Also, he's a Racer fan. The reserve pack on it looked neat to me, but he told me how it could be improved (seat the PC down more, reduce snagability). I've found a Racer friendly rigger
  24. 1 set of new (to me) gear 1 new helmet 1 pair new goggles 1 new (to me) dytter + rain/thunderstorms/cloud = ZERO jumps. Bugger. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  25. Total Control offers financing on anything over AU$3000. I think that that is a good idea. I've just had to fork over AU$5k for a second hand rig, and that took me to the bottom of the barrel, but I was saving up for it, so it was planned for... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
