I am fluent in over 6 million forms of communication. c'mon... I can't believe it took this long to get here.... . One for me. I did French and Italian in primary school, and 3 yrs of Japanese in high school. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

I meant upwind. I've edited. Also, about different winds at different altitudes, I talking about several wind 'levels' blowing in different directions and at different speeds. I haven't done any calcs to figure this out, this is just a SWAG. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

I am assuming that you are doing a standard upwind jump run, and the winds at altitude aren't majorly different to the winds on the ground. LouDiamond posted a document that can be used for calculating the spot for exit. You could probably play with that and look at different wind directions and strengths, and how they alter the exit order. edit: stupidity. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

But you need to re-phrase it. Blue is up Green is down Pull before you Hit the ground -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Do a search on "exit order" or "exit seperation" You'll find that the prefered order is RW biggest to smallest, FF biggest to smallest, students, tandems, wingsuits, CRW. (not too sure about the last two) I think that the general rule of thumb seperation is 1000' between exits. But of course, your mileage will vary. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

0:2:1 Got to test out my new RW suit. mmm... You really know where your feet are with boosters. I even managed to 'swoop' the 'pond'. ie land over a ditch filled with water. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Not me, but we can start at 16 in Oz, so I'm guessing ther are some... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Yes. There was a report of a birdstrike in freefall in the APF magazine a little while ago. The gy in question got hit in the face. He managed to dump and land safely. He landed and was taken to hospital (he had blood everywhere). He required several stiches, and the doctor found a claw in one of the cuts. I've also seen a picture of a small bird impaled in the lens of a full face helmet. Don't know the story behind that one. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

The last APF magazine said that Australians had a 1 in ~750 chance of a reserve ride. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

I don't know if it is an APF rule, or a CASA rule, but this is how we do it. If a manufacturer hasn't issued a 'use-by date', then gear can be certified as airworthy by a properly certified person. If a manufacturer has issued a 'use-by date', then gear can be certified as airworthy by a properly certified person up until that date, after which it must be retired. If a manufacturer has issued a 'use-by date', and the expiry date/manufacture date is not visible, then the gear must be retired. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Yeah, I was often told that they thought about bringing in the airforce to shoot me down. Like the time I got stuck in some thermals. 360 spiral, check alti, 360 spiral, check alti, 360 spiral, check alti... mmm I'm not going down... 2160 spiral, check alti, now I'm going down... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Just a story for you. A little while ago, we had some army cadets come down for a para cse. One of the femal cadets was really tiny. When she was on finals (on her first jump), the left side of the canopy was collapsing and then reinflating. I can't remember how fast this was happening. This was on a 270. After this, she went out with a 195 and everything was fine. I have no idea as to her wingloading. But shit can happen, I just don't know when it will start. Edit: When I started, I was on the 270, and I loaded it at ~0.6-0.7. I did that for ~40 jumps. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Skydiving becoming MUCH safer for students ?

I did 6 jumps on the rope. 5 is the minimum set by the APF. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies -
yeah, you are getting a bit pedantic there.... However, it can be argued that FAQ is wrong, and F.A.Q. is always correct as it is an acronym. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

"I'll never stall my canopy near the ground". That belongs with "I'll never low turn" and "I'll never land off". Thats why I practice. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

concatenate Thats my new word of the week. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Thats the sort of thing I was referring to. Exactly how to recover from a stall, letting the toggles/riser up just past the stall point to allow recovery with our the canopy surging forward and pounding you into the ground if you happen to stall it low. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
-
I've rear riser stalled my canopy. I haven't toggle stalled it, because I would have to take wraps to do that. It is something you have to experience so that you know what to do. I was stalling on rear risers so I would know how far to flare if I had to do a RR landing. I'm still working on doing it for real. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Well, if they haven't patented it already, then it's too late... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Be careful. I totally shutdown a PA270 doing that, and I was only 2k. The DZO swore that I would have to chop it (I didn't). I got reamed about that when I landed. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

Had a look in the Governance manual. They (RD and S&TA) can only pull the ratings of instructors. Ahh, America. The Land of the Free..... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies -
Yes. In my case, the lenses from my old sunglasses fir straight in. It does depend on your script and the goggles. I'm quite short sighted, and as a consequence, the edges of my lenses are quite thick. You need goggles that can accomodate that thickness at the edge. I got mine done by a optician who is also a skydiver, so he knows what is needed. I've PMed you details. If no-one can help you, you also might want to try http://www.sportrx.com/. I know one jumper who has obtained goggles throught there, and he's pretty happy with them. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
