  1. Thats what I mean. Check each line to it's mirror partner. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  2. What about a cheap digital camera for someone that is just starting? A camera that you can use to practice your framing and stuff, without really worrying about (potentailly) loosing several thousand dollars worth of camera... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  3. On the right hand side of the camera, there is a button labelled "Focus" Press it and then rotate the ring that surrounds the lens. There should be a little graphic that appears at the bottome centre of the viewfinder/LCD screen that tells you at which distance you're focussed. AFAIK, it stays at this focus even if you turn off the camera. Just don't move the ring after you've set it, or you'll change your focus. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  4. The way I was shown to check line lengths (for a quick and dirty appraisal) Just check the line lengths of the lines symmetrically from the centre of the canopy. Both A,B,C lines on the centre cell, both A,B,C lines on the two next cells...... etc. I don't know if that makes sense, but it will (should?) give you an indication as to your canopy trim. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  5. I just handed in my B and C licence cards at the same time. One licence fee, two licences. Now only 15ish jumps from my D. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  6. THe jumper said he _pulled_ at 1600. Not open by 1600. He was open by 1000 (apparantly). With the change in orientation of the vigil and requisite change in apparent atmospheric pressure, it is possible that the Vigil would fire. It's also possible that a cypres would fire. You should also note that the jumper (allegedly) pulled not much higher than that on a previous jump. If you jump a "modern" AAD, going down to 1500' is going to put you into AAD territory. If you want to avoid a two-out: dump higher or don't jump an AAD. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  7. I've got my Granma's 80th birthday party to go to. If I don't go to that, my life won't be worth living..... Afterwards, I think I might go over to my gf's place -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  8. Tandems need a drogue to slow down so that when they open, they don't blow up canopies. In the case of a rodeo dive, yes the pair are going faster together, but then they break off, track away, and in the process of doing so, slow down. Then when they dump, they are doing a "normal" freefall speed. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  11. Just remember, ask 10 people how to pack and you get 15 answers. I have a Sabre 150. I don't roll the nose. I push it about 3/4 of the way back into the packjob. I roll the tail tightly. Paying particular attention to the section closest the lines, so I keep the slider down. Slider is pulled out to the front of the packjob (not quartered) So far, about 100 pack jobs on this. I've had a few harder openings, and a couple of canopy "appearances", but nothing that has caused any damage. Also, these openings were when I was trying something, or putting the canopy in the bag and thinking "I really should redo this...". -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  12. You can fall out. If you notice it undone in freefall, you can dump "safely". All you have to do (aren't those words magic?)(This was read here at dz.c) is reach across and grip the right MLW with your left hand as you go into pull (keep symmetric) and after you dump out your PC, bring your right hand in to grip your left MLW. Then, hopefully, you won't fall out. or have a mal. Then do up your chest strap. --This post has been brought to you by a non-instructor, 180 jump wonder. Please take with a grain of salt, and consult your instructor as soon as possible-- -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  13. Depends on what sort of ejection seat they are. I think the Hornets that the RAAF has have 0/0 ejection seats. You can eject from 0 feet at 0 airspeed and land "safely". Our PC-9 trainers have 0/60 seats (0'/60 kn) -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  14. Then you'd have to add forums for every other country in the world. Don't forget that there is much more to the world than the US (thank God...) -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  15. I was on the net for so long, I found the end -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  20. I see you're in the US. From that I assume you have one of those silly one handle things that delivers your water. Why don't you get a hot and a cold tap? Then you can mix your own.... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  21. It depends on the manufacturer. In Oz, if the manufacturer _hasn't_ issued a "use-by-date" you can use it until it's deemed unairworthy. If the manufacturer _has_ issued a "use-by-date" you can use it until that date, then it has to be withdrawn from service. If the manufacturer _has_ issued a "use-by-date", and you can't read the manufactured on date, on the canopy, then it has to be withdrawn from service. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  22. That sounds about right.... Cheers -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  23. I would like one of these. Probably in a Sabre2 135. Don't know if I should go with BBY end ribs instead... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
