  1. For students at my DZ, we have a radio plus an arrow on the ground. We also don't have more than one student in the air at one time. If the radio fails, then the arrow is the backup. If everything is totally screwed, and the student is waaaaay out in the boonies, then they are taught to land in half brakes, and PLR. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  2. Is there any chance of adding E and F to the list of licence letters? I know that the APF issues licences past D. Don't know of anyone else does... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  3. Cool is on my list, but practicality comes first. I bought my rig second hand. I didn't care what it looked like. It's a black Racer with a purple pop top. The canopy is blackberry, purple, magenta, fluro pink, fluro orange. It works. I bought myself a brand new rel suit. I got my colours from my rig. Black, purple and orange. My goggles are red. Doesn't match, but my old lens fit in them, so I saved a couple hundred dollars there. Helmet is black. But black goes with everything. Got a new freefly suit for christmas. Black, purple and orange. If I can, I'll go with my current colour scheme, but it doesn't really bother me. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  4. Not a good example; it's beyond falsifiable, it's a plainly ludicrous statement... because circumference and area use different units of measurement. That is undisputed mathematical fact. When I die, my 'soul' will enter masher's mind and influence his thoughts and actions till his last days. Utterly improbable, even disturbingly silly, but can he disprove my claim ? Re my first example. I made a statement. You falsified it by stating that area is measured in square units, not linear units. This shows that my formula is wrong. That is science. Maybe it seemed to work on my first circle because I measured it wrong... Re your second example. No I can't disprove your claim. Therefore you claim isn't scientific. . Back to pajarito re absolute proof in mathematics. In a given axiomatic set, there exist proofs that are right, and cannot be changed. You can't observe the numbers closer and come up with a better proof/theory. eg, there is an infinite amount of prime numbers, root 2 is an irrational number... You can't come up with a theory that discounts those. That is maths. However in science. Newton did some calculations and came up with his theory of gravitation. Worked pretty good, still does. Then observational astronomy got better. They discovered that the apogee of Mercury's orbit precess a couple of arcminutes an orbit. They couldn't explain that. Then Einstein came along with his gravitational theory. For the most part, it is the same as Newton's, but there a a few bits that are different, -> it can explain Mercur's precession. That is how science works. with your example about approaching zero and things. That is called a limit. There is a mathematical framework to obtain those values, we don't just put in numbers close to the value and guess, we go through the works of calculating them, even if the value itself doesn't exist. eg lim(x->0) sin(x)/x = 1 As x gets closer to 0, the value of sin(x)/x goes to one. But the function doesn't exist at x=0. Just an example of limits. . Note: I'm not trying to be condescending in any of my replies, I'm trying to put my viewpoint forward.... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  5. Follow up from Squeak. It seems that getting you Starcrest is a big deal. In Oz you need one to be able to do bigger than 10-ways, so we get them as a matter of course... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  6. Just a note. In mathematics, absolute proof is accessible. In the experimental sciences, absolute proof is not possible. As Nightingale has pointed out, you can only "prove" something until a better idea comes along. That said, science is based upon falsefible hypotheses. That is, I make a statement that can be proved to be wrong. Religion doesn't make such statements. eg: The area of a circle is equal to 5 times its circumference. That is is falsefible. When you die, you go to [Heaven][Paradise][Nirvana] etc. How can you falsify that statement? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  7. Using a reserve is "fair use", as I would call it. I wouldn't charge anything (for the repack) if someone used a reserve. re lost handles, main.... I'm still out... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  8. IMHO.... Using a reserve is normal use. Yes, using a reserve reduces it's value, but so does using a main. The price of maintainance should be built into the cost of rental. Maintainance also includes the cost of repacks. . I'm still forming an opinion wrt replacement of lost handles, freebags, mains etc... My first guess would be their replacement should be included in the cost of rental. My second guess is that they should be replaced by the jumper at cost. (ie 1000 jump sabre will cost the jumper US$200-300, or what ever the market value is, not replacement cost.) -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  9. Forgot about the astra. I must of set off a sentinal... I just needed to pull out the thingo and we were ready to go.. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  10. mmm seems I just missed that... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  11. Any followups on this? Are Jumpshack still providing the shock cord free bag _and_ the speed bag? I haven't had any rigging training, and I don't know any of the pros and cons of each type of bag... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  12. I've done maybe 10 jumps on a Falcon 195. Didn't have any problems with it. Just a normal flat pack. That said, the dutch girl complained of hard openings on it, so we changed how we packed it, and it was fine. Then someone else took it for a h'n'p, after she'd packed it :) took forever to open :p -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  13. What was the FXC charge? I've set off FXCs before, nothing to do except reset them... or am I being naive here...? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  14. yes pls ! Cheers. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  15. Any photos yet? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  16. nice. Then you may have to send another.... :) . edit: You are sending another.... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  19. cool bananas. Black and purple body. orange wings. All I need now is a few hundred more jumps, and a few $k fro a suit :) -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  20. Thats the sort of colours I'd get. Do they have fluro orange? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  21. I just thought, "Finally, a BM pic where the BM isn't in the "spread everything" pose". Nice pic, nice suit. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  22. Oh yeah Deuce, a couple of questions about your DVD. Is it region 0? Just like to know if I can play it on my DVD player. (curse the movie industry) Good to know, or I'll buy a $50 coaster... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  23. I found "Good Stuff" to be very repetative, and the footage is weird where they overlay the jumps onto a suburban backdrop. They're real shots Squeak. Shoot from a long way away, with a telephoto lens, and you compress everything together. A person dumping at 3k looks like they're about to go in.. I thought it was pretty funky stuff. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  24. has a purty avatar. do you still have that full size? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
