  1. Isnt it the pilots responsability anyways???? I usually blame my packer for bad spots. I blame my packer for hard landings. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  5. I don't know about the US, but in Oz, waivers really mean nothing at all. Putting it into law makes everything much easier. Now, in order to sue people have to show that someone: (i) intentionally injures the participant; (ii) commits an act or omission that constitutes negligence for the safety of the participant and such act or omission caused the injury; or (iii) knowingly provides faulty equipment and such equipment was faulty to the extent that it did cause the injury or death of the participant. which is much harder. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  6. The thing to remember is that the flys fly around, but pause between different flights. Just get them in the pauses. v easy. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  8. I'd cutaway if I was starting to get dragged (seriously dragged...) I don't have an RSL, so I don't have to worry about that, but hopefully I'd remember to unhook it if I did... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  9. YES PLEASE!!!!!! Just make sure that you come out to Perth as well.... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  10. Also, as a general rule, straight lines are obstacles. straight line = fence, road, powerlines...... -> manmade stuff. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  11. The PC105 viewfinder is in colour. I don't know what the TRV one is... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  12. It's just that you knew what you're talking about. You live with this stuff, so you know what you want to say. It's just us plebs that get stuck... Now that you have explained it, your one-liner makes sense.... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  13. Don't worry, it looks like a few people (myself included) didn't quite get it.... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  15. Cool bananas... Thanks for your reply. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  16. My progression was 270, 195, 170 to my current 150. I have no idea as to the number of jumps that I spent on each, but I currently have ~185 jumps with ~100 on my 150. I load my 150 at 1.1. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  17. First up, I would have done the same. If I had _not_ initiated main deployment, I would go straight to the reserve. . Second, this sounds like a situation I was in when on student status. I learnt on student gear with a chest mounted ripcord. On one jump, I was lazy with my "Look, reach, pull" and didn't look enough. Instead of pulling the ripcord, I managed to knock it out of its holder and it was flapping around my side. I ran my hand up the MLW from the hip, felt the ripcord cable, grabbed it and pulled. If I hadn't of been able to grab it, it would have been reserve time... Anyway, since my ripcord and your cutaway handle are in the same place, and your were high, you could have run your hand up your MLW, grabbed the cutaway cable (not the handle) and pulled it out. Possibly. Please note that I am not an instructor. I would have done as you did and gone straight for reserve. I'm just offering my side of a similar situation. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  18. I bought PC105 because I wanted to sidemount it. The narrower body makes it quite suitable for this. As to the features offered on both cameras, I have no idea. I didn't really look at the TRV series. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  19. side note: I'm starting to begin to think about downsizing, and the Lotus is on my list of potential canopies. Are there any demos available in Australia? I don't know anyone that has one... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  20. re. AADs... In Australia all students (and up to D licence) are required to have AADs. At my DZ, some student training is done by S/L. The S/L setup is a direct bag, not a PC assist S/L (the line attaches to the acft, jumping peels out the static line which then pulls the pin, and the line pulls out the deployment bag). These rigs don't have AADs, as (apparantly) the direct line S/L is seen as an AAD. When the S/L students move onto freefall, then the get a rig with a "conventional" AAD. Any comments.?? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  21. I didn't say anything about a reserve handle. I was implying that main activation probably would have been a ripcord. I know where my reserve handle is. I also know that it moves around a lot. If (when?) I cutaway, I'm looking for my reserve handle. Look right grip right, look left, grip left, peel punch right, peel punch left. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  22. Also the fact that in 1976, there would have probably been a ripcord to look at... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  23. I don't think so. The spot focus just changes the spot that the camera focusses on, I don't know if it's permanent or not... (is this the one where you pressthe LCD screen to tell the camera where to focus?) -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  24. I have a video camera. I bought to jump with. I also bought it to use at home and around other places. -> Value for money. I already have a nice SLR. If I wanted to jump that, I would have to pay to process film, and the cost of that would mount quickly. Hence my wanting a digital camera. I don't want to go and buy a top of the range digital SLR, as I already have a nice SLR. So, a cheap digital -> potentially value for money. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
