  1. considering that there is no exact expression for pi.... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  2. Another "proof" in the same vein as Indyz's... Proof that 1 = 2 1^1 = 1^2 take the logs of both sides. log(1^1) = log (1^2) using log laws, log(a^b) = b*log(a) 1*log(1) = 2*log(1) take out log(1) as a common factor 1 = 2 -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  5. It could be a CReW rig. I've seen a few at York that could be described like that. They're just big toggles so that they're easier to grab. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  6. Please note that I haven't been on any formation larger than a 10-way. My gut reaction to this is to do as I was briefed to do if I went low on a formation. Move to the side of the formation and try to get back up. If you can't get back up, track off ~500' before break off so that the others can see you go, and know where you are. In my eyes, this applied to a shreaded 20-way would mean try and rebuild, but be careful on breakoff, as there might be people any where. However, I was on 10-way that turned into a complete zoo. On that jump I was supposed to be docking on the 4-way base, except that it funneled. I stayed high and away waiting for it to rebuild. There was people going everywhere in the sky, and there was nearly at least one collision. I broke off just as everyone else start to break, I estimate that it was ~500-1000' above our planned break off height. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  7. Do you want a top mount or side mount? This will probably affect your choice of camera. From what I've read on this site (quade is a good source), the TRVs are good for top mounting, whilst the PC series are good for side mounts. This isn't exclusive mind you... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  8. I was referring to this statement on the Way Cool website: If you use the 37mm Red Eye or Blue Eye with a step ring down to 30mm you will get a slightly wider image. This is particularly useful on the newer model Sony PC cameras which are reported to have a more narrow field of view off the shelf than their predecessors. Note: Using this affect with more than one step ring will reduce image quality in the corners of the frame and lead to frame cropping. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  9. In Oz, easily. AKAIK you can't sign away your rights to sue. Moves are afoot atm to allow people to sign away those rights for "hazardous" activities. This is in response to spiralling insurance premiums. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  10. By popular request... Has anyone experimented with using extra rings to change the distance of the (wide angle) lens from the camera? I've heard that it can make a difference (increase) in the field of view. Mind you, this was just from one source, and I haven't tried it. Edit: Speeling.... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  12. Cool, thanks for that. Sounds like the Mirage (?) one I saw. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  13. Does anybody have any pics of what the handle looks like? I've seen a few "freefly" handles that were just a pud instead of a hackey, and at least one (I think it was a mirage) that took me a little while to figure out how get the PC out ('twas pretty rock solid) -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  15. no wuckers. . On the thread size topic, has anyone experimented with using extra rings to change the distance of the (wide angle) lens from the camera? I've heard that it can make a difference.... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  19. Yours is there. Sony DCR-PC 105 - 30mm The "e" denotes a PAL camera, as opposed to the horrid NTSC system. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  20. Could you work the deployment of the recovery parachute into the the cutaway system? A bit like the primary and secondary releases on a tandem... Primary release is a cable going from the cutaway handle to the chinstrap (?) and the secondary release goes from the base (or top or somewhere) of the recovery parachute to the (other side?) of the chinstrap. Maybe..... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  21. Check out this link from the APF http://www.apf.asn.au/apf_admin/downloads/starting_a_dz.pdf It is quite Australia specific, but it could give you an idea of the organisation required. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  24. Really? Cool... That's where I jump pretty much all of the time. When do you get there? I'll probably be down on the second weekend in Jan. No real tips for you off the top of my head... That said, it is a bit of a walk to Perth from Busselton -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
