  1. :6:0 Now I'm on 199 jumps. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  2. We talked about this at the DZ this weekend. The thought was that she cutaway and deployed her reserve without checking that her main had actually left. The fact that you have pulled your cutaway handle doesn't mean that your main has disappeared. The reverse risers (RRs) may have played a role in this, as Javelins aren't designed to have them. (the manaul says that too). As has been said, rigs that do have RRs have the attachment point higher up on the shoulder. If the attachment point is lower, then the risers could hold the rings against the MLW and prevent the risers from leaving if the jumper is still belly to earth. This was a three tiered event. If any of them didn't happen, there would have been a death. Check everything on your rig. Read the manuals, replace your tubestows, elastic bands, closing loops, PCs....... Look after yourself. This sport is dangerous enough... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

    RSL

You're right, it's no good. If the acft is climbing, the cypres will interpret the change in air pressure as an error in its pressure sensor, and won't turn on. If the acft is nice and level, and you do manage to turn it on, then you have set "ground" level at x thousand feet, so at x000 + 750', your reserve will (should) pop out. Probably a bad thing.... edit: clarified some stuff -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  4. How about some red A lines so you can finish off that CReW jump you just wrapped.... ? -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  10. No. No. Why don't they update their website? You must admit that it's pretty dodgy. The web is pretty much the only way that I see rigs other than Javelins or Talons. No pics of the rigs, nothing... There isn't much for me to base an opinion on... -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  11. No. You're wrong. The student is to briefed "if required by the owner/operator". Make of that what you will. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

    Red Dwarf

Seen it, like it, love it. Series IV just came out in DVD. I am so getting it! They put "Backwards" on the DVD backwards, so you hear what the backwards people are saying. How cool is that? Fun? Ah yes, the employment of time in a profitless and non-practical way. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  18. I have never heard of an experienced jumper grounded for dumping at 2k. Hell- we do Hop and pops from there when it is a low cloud ceiling. I know I have never been grounded for it. I am usually dumping higher than 2000 In our OpRegs you have to have an open parachute by 1800. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  19. Not necessarily. In Oz, instructor examiners are only required to hold, or have held a packer A rating. That means they can pack reserves. It doesn't mean they can do any other sort of rigging. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  20. For "normal" (RW) jumps They're set 500' below where I want to do stuff. 3500 (why haven't you broken off yet?) 2500 (why haven't you pulled yet?) 1500 (what the fuck are you doing??!!!) -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  21. Depends. In Oz, you have to wear a helmet until you have your C licence. Then it's up to you (with approval of the DZSO) In the UK, everyone has to wear a helmet. (AFAIK) In the US, I think it's a free-for-all once you've got your A licence. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies

  23. I can't comment on the PC104, but I got my PC105 and a battery and a carry case for $1900. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
  24. It's probably groundable anywhere.... Why? Break off from the three-way at ~3 and track. See one guy to my left, OK turn a bit right. See the other guy to my right. oh shit, back to my left to where I was before. Oh fuck it's 2k, I have no friends at 2k. wave and dump. under an open canopy by 1400. (or that's when I actually looked at my alti) That was the only time I've heard the flatline on my dytter. I don't want to hear it again. -- Arching is overrated - Marlies
