If you go on the spiderman ride with other skydivers, there's a moment where I guarantee you'll all yell "PULL" at the same time marc "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton

Ender's Game - Great book of the times
marcandalysse replied to kansasskydiver's topic in The Bonfire
I mentioned SNOW CRASH yesterday in Chris' related post. Also mentioned Neil Stephenson's new series...Has anyone read them yet? Quicksilver, and The Confusion. The third volume will arrive in Fall. Awesome read! More historic fiction than Science Fiction however.... marc -
old news do a search...

I do as ladyskydiver does, I log the date, my flying time in tunnel, and the coach. Then I multiply the total minutes by $10 and see how much I've spent in that big noisy tin can!!! OUCH!! No its not freefall. And it is good to save your videos. Besides watching what I was doing, I can go back and watch how my coach and the better flyers are moving their bodies....there is always alot to learn.... marc

I Robot is a classic, all Asimov books are fun! Check out Snow Crash if you haven't read it! If you head down to Tampa, you can borrow another Amado book or any other of my library of Brasilian books....sit around my pool or nearby Siesta Beach for a few days and relax, man! Then maybe we will finally skydive together, at zhills or nearby.... best of luck, tudo de bom, fique em contato, VIU!!!

Both are great books! have you read 'Quincas Berro D'agua' also by jorge amado? In English its titled something like 'The Death and Death of Quincas Wateryell', but lets face it, much better to read in its original Bahia style Portugues. It is a very short novel, and is HILARIOUS!!! I just finished reading the second volume of the new series by Neil Stephenson. His SNOW CRASH was a cyberpunk classic. This one focuses on the time of 1650-1710...when the world was changing rapidly, trying to become modern and scientific, religious and border wars everywhere, pirates and technological advances walked hand in hand....each volume is around 800 pages, but a very fast read...swashbuckling and swordfights mixed with discussions on that period's philosophy, politics, and economics, not as dry as it sounds! The second volume follows a group of pirate/capitalists from Spain to Cairo to India to Manila to Mexico as they travel around the globe making deals.... But hey, get out of the house and enjoy your summer! Have you thought about MIS grad school anymore?? We just rented the dvd of 'the triplets of belleville'. It was INSANE! Really fun, crazy animated movie. Hyper soundtrack with lots of 1930's gypsy guitar style jazz...NO WORDS, only sounds and mumbles! The trailer is at: http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony/thetripletsofbellville.html marc "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton

In Brasil, they call american coffee 'cha-fee', 'cha' meaning 'tea' in portuguese.... my american indian/cowboy relatives would cook those coffee grounds over the fire until they were almost like a syrup....yucky, but potent!!!

Areas fun to wander on the summertime weekend evenings include (as mentioned above) the area south of cub's ballpark wrigleyville, all the way south past belmont. lots of asian noodle shops, thai food, japanese (shiroi hana/ nohana are very reasonable). The Blue Men have a show in that area. CUbbyBear lounge across from the ballpark has lots of bands. Metro has been around since the punk/new wave days. Fullerton/Lincoln/Halsted and areas one mile north and south of there have a great collection of bars, music (Blues bars like kingston mines and blues etc), food, etc Evanston area is mellow with coffee shops, nice restaurants, etc. Nice beaches too. Our favorite place to visit at sunset or sunrise (!) is the Bahai Temple along the lake in Wilmette. Good bike riding area too. Be sure to visit it! have fun, bro!

no wind blowing and distorting his face.... that said, good mantis position (feet could be up more)....maybe I will practice my mantis with a roll like that....naw, they wouldn't let me bring it into the tunnel.... mp "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton

I like the approach to SanFrancisco airport too.... As far as airport terminals go, we were really impressed by the Paris Charles DeGaulle international terminal. WOW! Good shopping, good food, and really comfortable modern design.....I will post a photo later. Arriving from the hassles of Bombay Airport, we were in heaven!!! marc
