Hey, We are leaving tomorrow for Mumbai and Goa!!! We will probably pass through Delhi after May 1 on the way to see Taj Mahal..... My friend is going home to get married in a traditional Hindu ceremony, so we have the chance to experience 'the real india' by hanging out with them for a couple weeks. Should be overwhelming..... What are you doing in India?? Have a safe, fun time HH! marc

I just noticed that on the list of top ten search terms at msn.com, camel spiders is at #2..... cute lil guys....just keep them far from me!! 4 inch long cockroaches (socalled 'palmetto bugs') here in Florida are quite enough for me!

wow bucky, I guess my post was too wordy, it ended an active thread! but I am interested in everyone's views on the question asked-- what do most people consider "well-traveled"? and why do YOU like to travel?? marc

Interesting question.... I think that while travel is always eye opening, it is easy to go somewhere and not experience it in any depth. There used to be discussions about 'tourist' vs 'traveller'....as if one would have a deeper experience than the other. I think going anyplace and having a chance to talk to the people living in that place is a learning experience, whether it is on the other side of the world or in the town down the road. Personally, I need a frequent shaking up that I can only get by visiting a place totally different from where I live in Sarasota (mostly old white people). So anywhere with lots of young people (like the dz or a concert in Tampa!!)is a good start!!! An example, we are planning on going to India next month. I was always curious about the place, but it seemed like a big hassle to travel there. But now a friend of mine is getting married there, and we will go there to join in on the traditional Hindu wedding ceremony. So rather than just 'float' through the sights, we will spend time with his family and experience a little of their life styles. When we went to Spain and Portugal rather than just rent a car and drive around with a guide book (which we did for a month), at each town large or small, we also asked where the ceramics/pottery studios were, and visited them. We had a pottery studio at the time. So in each place, we could sit and talk about a subject in common and make friendships based on that commonality. One of my favorite life experiences happened while we were living in Japan. I did a 1000 mile hike through Japan, through mountain paths, rice fields, along beaches....and stayed in small places like the local buddhist temples. I spoke no english for 2 months, and had lots of interesting conversations with people who had never met an american, or even a 'white guy'. It helps to speak the language of a country....so I always try to learn enough to have some kind of conversation.... Countries: No America: Canada, USA, Mexico, Bahamas So.America: Brasil, Uruguay, Peru, Boliva, Paraguay, Panama Asia: Japan, HongKong/Macau, Thailand, Indonesia, Malyasia, Singapore Europe: Scotland, Greece, Spain, Portugal,Turkey next month: France and India Marc

we live a mile from siesta beach...but the SOUTH end of Anna Maria Island has a quieter beach (coquina beach) probably more doggy friendly....if you end up there, be sure to cross the bridge to longboat key and go to Moores Stone Crab near there....PM me for directions....

We didn't get around to doing a magic carpet (too windy for alysse and me) but the party was lots of fun....and the fellowship the usual excellent time! Thanks again Johnny, you are the #1 asshole!

agreed. or 2 15 min sessions...that's good for a first time in the tunnel. split the hour with others, its cheaper that way. Mike B works at the tunnel and is an awesome coach for both first timers and experienced tunnel rats. Sally Hathaway has been booking coaching time and you could contact her at zhills to find out her schedule.... marc

that bit about a marxist state in brasil is a bunch of bull.... unless they are talking about the Marx Brothers.... that's the kind of slant that the brasilian military with the USA CIA used to pull off the coup in 1964 that resulted in nearly 20 years of military dictatorship....notice this guy says he worked in 'intelligence' Believe me, the corrupt right wing politicians have done FAR more damage to the Brasilian economy and people than any of these former leftists ever could! Once Lula was in office, he had to go moderate and break lots of promises just like every other politician alive...

To the real Kramer: If we had only known yesterday, I would have tossed you into Lake Mottski!! But we partied pretty well Saturday nite! As always, glad to spend time with you! By the way, Deweys birthday was Saturday, Alysse's was last monday...Happy Birthday everybody!! Marc

:2:lottsa jello shots and muff punch! huh, no winds in sebastian on sunday? we sat out most of sunday (all of saturday) due to gusts at zhills...I figured you guys would be even windier...oh well, there's always next week! (related post on the 'what did you do this weekend thread'....) marc

Saturday, sat and bs'd with the bombsquad gang and the Muff Brothers at the Muff Brothers boogie at zhills, while bitching about the wind gusts. Like stacy, I was discouraged by the skygods demos of a variety of landings... Saturday nite a great band and party! Muff Brothers Punch and Jello shots, while intensely effective, did not leave us with a hangover so.... Sunday got in 2 early morning jumps before gusts picked up enough to spend the rest of the day watching boxman's big ways (including an awesome pair of earmuffs seen easily from the ground) and still wearing my jumpsuit hoping the first day of spring would go out like a lamb before sunset load!!! A lot of dz.commer's at the party, happythoughts, ron, heatherb, jerm, towerrat and skybrat, rick, muffbrother65, jmpnkramer, ladyskydiver, and more....besides being so much fun in our virtual dropzone, they are great folks live and in 'the real world' dz

look for the bomb squad banner/flags over that table in the corner. and a certain muff wearing guy who looks like Santa's younger brother... i am still hoping for a magic carpet ride on Saturday at the muff brothers boogie!!! by the way, Bill, good attempt at hijacking that hairy thread with your comments about freefly pants!!! true muff brother spirit!!!

I wouldn't call that a serious look. I would say that's the look of someone who is in a state of peaceful contented enlightenment after doing some incredible training in there! You really were awesome Heather, we've been watching the video and you were so smooth and controlled in even the most difficult moves!! There were alot of tourists watching us and it was fun to give the little ones a thumbs up through the glass...It's amazing how small the jumpsuits they have for even the tiniest ones trying out the tunnel! marc "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton
