I just checked out our local library, they don't have the book....looked it up on amazon.com, the author wrote a lot of books about hang gliding and ultralights...hmmm... Anyone else have suggestions for good books about weather?? marc "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton

Andalusia, Southern Spain! Have you been to Bahia Brasil Yet? (as carmen miranda sang: 'voce já foi a Bahia nega? ENTAO VAI!') It is amazing!! The Soul of Brasil! If you manage to get to Australia or NZealand, don't forget BALI island is not far from there, and its awesome!! Ever been to Taos New Mexico and surrounding area? Boa Viagem, save up that $$$! marc

Be careful if you ask Scotty to beam you up...
marcandalysse replied to CrazyIvan's topic in The Bonfire
Interesting article. He was at D-Day, he has a 4 year old daughter, he's 84 and still in movies! Personally though, I prefer Jim to Beam me up! (or Jack Daniels....) Marc "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton -
This came up while sitting around manifest this weekend. Conclusions: 1)The fact that anyone can play golf, and that many hundreds of thousands have played golf (or poker etc) means they understand what is going on and can identify better with those activities. A nonskydiver doesn't know the effort or feelings involved. 2)All it would take is someone biffing in before a huge crowd, and sponsors would drop out fast. marc

Its pouring down very hard in North Sarasota....just as long as it stops before the drive home...my lawn needs it...although often it can be storming here at work, but at home, 4 miles south could be dry and sunny! Tampa Bay area is funny that way... mp

Jump with those quiet skydivers this weekend
marcandalysse replied to cocheese's topic in The Bonfire
the dz was kinda quiet, most of the bomb squad present was doing 8 ways or bigger ways than I can handle, but Stu R invited me for a 2way and then a 4ways, that went great! Even my reserve ride was cool! Thanks Stu! -
Jump with those quiet skydivers this weekend

Please don't forget us noisy obnoxious ones, we need our group jumps too! marc -
Oh Cora, that is tough.....sorry to hear about it. I had to get the MRI to see that kind of detail. And since it was only a small tear to the ligament with some damage to the meniscus, the only treatment was to take it easy and after a month or so, I did some physical therapy for a couple weeks to strengthen the area. Please see a doctor about it. The problem is that even if you are walking on it with minimal problems, you could make the situation worse if you twist your leg etc. Get the MRI to confirm what's happened. Hoping for the best for you, Marc

There is definitely SOMETHING that makes us different from non-skydivers. And despite what the narrator of 'Adrenaline Rush' says, it is NOT because we like to put ourselves in 'danger'! (at least not for alysse and me) Some of my non skydiving friends can't even be in the room if I have a skydive video playing, they don't even want to think about it......and we know it's impossible to describe the feelings of a skydive to them. So there is some kind of adventurous nature to us. I personally like the feeling of accomplishment when I successfully complete the plan of a jump....learning how to fly through the efforts of body and mind coordination...learning how to pay attention to SO MANY factors on a short 1 minute activity...not everyone can do all that. And very important, the sense of being together with others on a jump, the respect and watching out for each other required for a successful jump....we look out for each other, communicate nonverbally with eyes, motions, smiles.....At work they talk about 'teamwork', I see teamwork at its best when sharing the sky with friends...we may argue around the bonfire, but in the sky we work together. marc "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton

15 min in tunnel with coach Sally Hathaway:3:0 2-2ways with alysse, 1 jump with Sally. By 2:30, It was too hot to suit up! So we went to see ADRENALINE RUSH at the MOSI IMAX theater!! Finally the film made it close to home, so all you Tampa Bay/Orlando folks, be sure to see it....AWESOME! Hehehe! JRAF INVADES CHICAGO, and shows off his hairiness at the swoop pond?? Up to ole tricks, Hans??? I talked to JRAF at 9pm Sat nite, he was camping out and just preparing to 'get drunk' at SDC. He was really impressed by the facilities, and said the bar was very cool, the people he was meeting even more so!!! GOOD LUCK CHICAGO! And take good care of my buddy while he's with you!! Didn't the closing pin get shown to you in your first jump class? In AFF1, they show you how the equipment works....in my class, they opened up a rig and explained all the parts. Further, in that first class, we were taught to check our gear before putting it on, including the 'PIN CHECK'.... marc
